Our Heritage

A significant part of Winston-Salem’s history, Brookberry Farm was once the country estate and dairy farm of Bowman Gray Jr. There, his family created their home on the nearly 800-acre farm and raised their five sons. With a strong commitment to the land’s historic integrity, Brookberry has evolved from an active cattle farm into a vibrant community for residents who embrace the history and enjoy the outdoors.

Every aspect of Brookberry Farm has been carefully designed with preservation in mind. The once-working barn has been historically restored to provide an exceptional venue for life’s most precious moments. Meet the Builder

Founded in 1996 by Steve Frucht, Benchmark has become synonymous with quality, integrity, and customer service throughout the area. With a dedicated staff and valued team of high-quality subcontractors, Steve also holds himself to the highest of standards and holds distinctions as a Graduate Master Builder, Certified Aging in Place Specialist, and Certified Green Builder from the National Association of Home Builders. In addition to holding an MBA from UNC Chapel Hill, Steve is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina. From the planning phases to the end of the construction process, Benchmark Custom Homes sees each project – whether a new, custom build or a remodel job – as a challenge and a task that they are ready to conquer. Benchmark’s superintendents can frequently be found on work sites each day, as well as Steve himself. Benchmark keeps a small, manageable number of projects going at once to ensure that the utmost care and detail is being put into each and every one of them. Benchmark Custom Homes celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016. Now in its third decade of providing outstanding quality and customer service, Benchmark Custom Homes looks forward to remaining a valued member of the Triad construction for years to come.
