It is a privilege to celebrate the 22nd year of this event, and to do so for the first time at the International Convention Centre Sydney, a world-class setting for our industry’s night of nights. These Awards have always been about recognising the extraordinary accomplishments of individuals and organisations across the Australian insurance sector, and this year is no exception. This celebration is not just for award winners, but to acknowledge the shared success of a profession that continues to build capability, raise standards, and makes customers and communities the focus of everything it does.

Katrina Shanks is Chief Executive Officer of the Australia and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF), leading its mission to raise professional standards across the insurance and financial services sectors through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

Since joining VMIA in 2015, Andrew has led the continued development of VMIA’s risk and insurance offering, and, formerly as Chief Insurance Officer, was responsible for the Authority’s insurance, reinsurance, claims and insights activities.

A chartered accountant, Katrina’s career spans audit, fund management, banking and governance. She owned her own accountancy practice before entering Parliament, where she chaired select committees and contributed to significant financial services reform. Prior to ANZIIF, she was the inaugural CEO of Financial Advice New Zealand, uniting three industry bodies and strengthening the voice of financial advisers nationwide. Her leadership has consistently focused on policy development, professionalism and consumer trust. At ANZIIF, she champions capability building, inclusion, and future readiness, ensuring the industry continues to serve communities with skill and integrity.

With a background in management consulting and change leadership and having worked globally in executive roles across a diverse range of industries, Andrew brings clear strengths in transformational leadership, a detailed appreciation of VMIA’s operations and a passion for delivering real value for the state of Victoria.

Anita Lane is the Managing Director of CFC Australia and a recognised leader in the insurance industry with over three decades of experience. She began her career as a broker across Australia and London before moving into senior underwriting leadership roles. Anita later co‑founded Solution Underwriting, which was subsequently acquired by CFC, and now leads CFC’s Australian business.

Claire Young is Chief Operating Officer at ANZIIF, where she leads the organisation’s operational strategy across IT, finance, customer experience and compliance, supporting the evolution of Australia and New Zealand’s leading insurance education and professional body.

With 30 years in the general insurance industry, including 20 in senior management and leadership roles, Jenny is a highly driven and strategic senior executive, a founding member and current Chair of ANZIIF’s General Insurance Faculty Advisory Board (FAB).

A highly respected executive leader with more than two decades of insurance and financial services experience, Claire is known for translating complex strategy into practical outcomes that strengthen organisational performance, governance maturity and people capability. Since stepping into the COO role, she has focused on building operational alignment, enhancing efficiency and enabling cross-functional collaboration to support industry education at scale.

As a practicing Certified Insurance Professional, Jenny has demonstrated a lifetime of commitment to study and ongoing learning. She has a Graduate Diploma in Insurance and a Master of Business Administration from Deakin University. Jenny has worked for several leading insurers in a variety of operational and management roles both in Australia and overseas.

Anita is an active industry contributor and serves as board member of the Underwriting Agency Council. She is also a committed advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, and a strong supporter of women in insurance. At CFC, Anita is known for her strategic vision, commitment to service excellence and focus on underwriting innovation. She regularly shares her expertise at industry events and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of insurance professionals. A firm believer in continuous learning, Anita completed her MBA in 2023.

Prior to ANZIIF, Claire spent over a decade with IAG, most recently as Executive Manager, Business Operations & Risk, where she led a multidisciplinary team delivering enterprise-wide change, governance uplift and operational transformation for the WFI brand. Her work strengthened risk capability, planning discipline and strategic delivery within a complex, matrixed environment.

She is the inaugural Chief Executive Officer at the Underwriting Agencies Council, and passionate about shaping the future of UAC, and delivering its membership roadmap for success.

Kara joined the insurance industry in 2011 and is the National Claims Service Manager at CHU Underwriting Agencies.

Kasun is the General Manager for the Australian Network, Broker, Risk & Insurer Services at Steadfast.

Kate Johnstone is a senior governance, risk and compliance executive with more than 25 years’ experience across the financial services and insurance sectors. As Chief Risk and Compliance Officer for Sedgwick Australia, she is recognised for translating complex regulatory and risk requirements into practical, value-adding outcomes that strengthen organisational resilience and support sustainable growth.

She is a leader who is passionate about the growth and development of professionals within the industry and is currently completing her MBA with the Australian Institute of Business. In 2020, Kara was named a young gun by Insurance Business and participated in the NIBA mentoring program as a mentor from 2022 to 2024. She enjoys giving back to the industry and has served on ANZIIF boards, councils and committees for several years.

In this role, he leads teams dedicated to enhancing the value proposition for the Steadfast network and insurers, and ensuring greater alignment across its service offerings. Prior to joining Steadfast, Kasun served as a Strategic Execution Manager in the Office of the CEO at AIG and Aon, where he held various roles in operations and strategy.

Kate brings deep expertise in insurance and claims management, governance, regulatory engagement and assurance, and is known for building strong risk cultures and driving accountable, customerfocused decision-making. An experienced NonExecutive Director and Chair of Sedgwick Australia’s ESG Committee, she brings a rigorous, fair and contemporary lens to her role as an ANZIIF Industry Awards judge.

Lisa Frederick is a distinguished leader with over two decades of expertise in the insurance industry, specialising in claims management, risk and quality assurance.

Mark Silveira is General Manager, Industry Engagement at ANZIIF and a respected leader across general insurance and financial services. With more than 40 years of experience, he has held executive and leadership roles including CEO of AR Group, National Sales and Marketing Director at OAMPS, General Manager at Steadfast Group in its formative years, and Head of Sales at TravelCard Australia.

Megan is Business Development Director, Southern Region at Ansvar Insurance, bringing nearly 20 years of experience across underwriting, claims, operations, distribution, eBusiness solutions, and broking.

Her career spans senior roles within insurers, brokers, and service providers to the industry, where she has consistently driven transformational change and strategic improvements. Lisa excels in enhancing customer experiences, ensuring compliance, and spearheading business improvements. Her exceptional contributions to the industry earned her a nomination for the prestigious 2023 Donna Walker Award - Inspiring Leadership. Passionate about making insurance a destination career, she is dedicated to delivering unparalleled service and fostering innovation. As a mentor to new and emerging leaders in the industry, Lisa solidifies her reputation as a forward-thinking and influential leader.

Mark is known for strategic relationship building, sales leadership and advocacy, and is a regular presenter at board meetings, forums and industry events. A keynote presenter, master of ceremonies, podcast host and professional actor, he co-founded and hosts the Business Made Personal podcast, interviewing prominent executives to share career insights.

She was previously the Co-Founder and former Head of Sales & Underwriting at Mitti Insurance, an awardwinning insurtech recognised as the 2022 ANZIIF Australian Insurance Industry Award winner for Insurtech Start-Up of the Year. Megan is known for her strong commercial focus and ability to drive growth through strategic partnerships and innovation.

Mark also mentors and coaches professionals pro bono, guided by the belief that genuine relationships drive results. His approach is people-centred, outcomes-focused and grounded in integrity.

Rebecca Slingo is General Manager, Learning and Event at ANZIIF, with more than 27 years of experience creating capability solutions across publishing, broadcasting, legal and insurance. Eighteen years in insurance inform a pragmatic, innovative approach that links learning to strategy and measurable results. Rebecca leads ANZIIF’s learning strategy, challenging convention and delivering programs that are progressive, engaging and aligned to organisational goals. Her governance and industry contributions include four years as Treasurer of the Enterprise Registered Training Organisations Association and ongoing membership of the Financial Services Industry Reference Committee since 2019.

Shaun Standfield is the Managing Director of Insurance Advisernet. He is a senior insurance executive with experience gained across large insurance companies in Australia and Asia. Today, he leads one of the region’s largest brokerages, with operations in more than 260 locations across Australia and New Zealand, placing over $1.3 billion in premiums.

Simone is the CEO of Insurtech Australia, a national not-for-profit organisation with a vision to create a world leading insurtech ecosystem with aims to foster a diverse community of insurance innovation and collaboration across the Australian insurance industry.

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Learning Professionals and a Member of the Australian Institute of Training and Development. Known for collaborative leadership and strength in complex projects, Rebecca builds high-performing teams and continuous improvement cultures. Her curiosity about global challenges, including climate and urban sustainability, shape a future-focused perspective that continues to lift professional standards across the sector.

Insurance Advisernet’s strength is also underpinned by its partnership with ASX-listed AUB Group, which fully supports the team in executing its strategic plans. Shaun maintains an active interest in the not-for-profit sector. He previously chaired the QBE Foundation in Australia and Asia, has had a long association with KidsXpress, and more recently has been involved with the Insurance Advisernet Foundation

An experienced leader in the insurance industry, Simone has held senior executive roles in both Australia and the UK and also has management consulting experience. Her previous role was that of Chief Operating Officer for Munich Re in Australasia. Additionally, she has been a Non-Executive Director of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) since August 2018.

Stephen has delivered insurance solutions across Australia, New Zealand and the U.S. for more than 35 years. His focus on identifying core solutions and appropriate delivery models has driven strategic outcomes for clients, including large multi-country customer-facing systems, business process solutions and systems of record, while ensuring cost-effective delivery.

Tim Yip is a Director at Taylor Fry with over a decade of experience in the general insurance industry. He provides reserving, pricing, M&A and capital management services to insurers and holds an Appointed Actuary role. He also advises corporate workers’ compensation self-insurers across Australia.

Vicki Mullen has nearly 30 years’ experience in public policy and financial services. She has worked for two large insurers and has held senior roles with the Insurance Council of Australia, the Financial Services Council and the Actuaries Institute.

Stephen has held senior roles as Country Manager and Director Insurance with global outsourcers, systems integrators and insurance software companies in Australia, the UK and U.S. His current consulting work spans mergers and acquisitions, insurance technology analysis and reviews, executive coaching, business success consulting, sales coaching and mentoring, insurance market research and non-executive board roles.

Active within the Actuaries Institute, Tim has contributed to COVID-19 working groups, Treasury consultations and the Institute’s 15-year strategic plan. He also sits on the Young Actuaries Advisory Board. Passionate about giving back to the profession, Tim combines technical expertise with a focus on practical, client-centred advice.

In her earlier career, she worked extensively within government, including roles with the NSW Parliament, the NSW Cabinet Office and a senior Minister. Vicki also worked for nearly three years as an Ombudsman with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. Currently, Vicki is a Senior Consultant with Finity Consulting providing services for clients in regulatory affairs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Laws Degree and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Today, Stephen continues to implement and optimise technology platforms through QuoteCheck, combining deep insurance knowledge with cutting-edge AI to improve efficiency and bring greater fairness, transparency and confidence to building repair claims.

Community Broker Network (CBN) has secured Authorised Representative Network of the Year for the second consecutive year, for its exceptional growth, commitment to broker success and ability to deliver measurable outcomes across its network. Judges highlighted the strength of the organisation’s submission, noting that outcomes were consistently backed by strategy resulting in a strong performance across growth, capability development, customer outcomes and community impact. In 2025, CBN delivered outstanding growth while maintaining strong broker retention and consumer experiences. Gross Written Premium and customer numbers both increased substantially and the Australian network expanded, alongside the successful establishment of a New Zealand business within its first year. A strong focus on professional development underpinned these results. Through the CBN Academy, learning engagement increases were robust year-onyear, supported by more than 16,000 online course completions and almost 10,000 webinar attendances. Programs such as Accelerate and ASCENT continue to develop future advisers, strengthen leadership capability and create sustainable career pathways.

Innovation also featured prominently, with the rollout of COVA, CBN’s AI-powered broker assistant, delivering productivity gains and enabling brokers to spend more time with customers. This was complemented by strong governance, compliance oversight and datadriven benchmarking tools that help brokers improve business performance. Beyond commercial success, CBN demonstrated a deep commitment to community and customer outcomes demonstrated by the launch of the CBN Community Fund, CBN Shine and broker-led initiatives supporting charitable causes and customers affected by severe weather events. By combining sustained growth, innovation, professional excellence and meaningful community contribution, CBN continues to set the benchmark for Authorised Representative networks across Australia and New Zealand.

In an exceptionally competitive category featuring a diverse range of businesses, CHU Underwriting Agencies has been named Claims Team of the Year for its outstanding combination of customer care, catastrophe readiness, innovation and operational excellence. Judges noted the challenge of comparing very different claims models but consistently highlighted CHU’s ability to clearly articulate exceptional claims handling in practice. A standout achievement was the team’s response to some of the industry’s most complex claims events. During Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, CHU’s investment in catastrophe preparedness was put to the test, with approximately 1,800 claims received, representing almost 6,000 homes and families. Through proactive planning, pre-event communications and delegated authority arrangements, the team was able to respond rapidly and effectively when customers needed support most.

The judges were particularly impressed by CHU’s handling of the Penny Place loss event, describing it as a benchmark example of complex claims management. Following the evacuation of approximately 300 residents after a major water damage incident, CHU mobilised a coordinated specialist response within 24 hours, established dedicated communication channels, provided emergency financial support and maintained regular

INSURTECH START-UP OF THE YEAR Curium

Curium has been named Insurtech Start-up of the Year, for combining deep regulatory expertise, practical innovation and a customer-focused approach to help reshape how compliance is managed across the insurance sector. Judges praised Curium for transforming compliance from a reactive obligation into a proactive, technologyenabled capability for insurance businesses of all sizes. They were particularly impressed by the strength of the platform’s innovation, along with its practical application of artificial intelligence and the significant value it delivers to customers operating in an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

The business nearly doubled its customer base, increased platform users more than 200% and grew annual recurring revenue approximately fivefold all while maintaining a small team of ten people., Judges noted that this level of growth was driven by product adoption providing strong evidence of the platform’s effectiveness and value.

In 2025, the business contributed more than $30,000 through sponsorships, charitable donations and fundraising initiatives, supporting organisations including Special Olympics, Variety, Guide Dogs Australia, the Cancer Council and Living Without Limits. Judges felt inspired by the measurable impact of these long-term partnerships and community programs that continue to provide tangible benefits for local initiatives and vulnerable individuals.. Investment in its own people further underpins Guardian’s success, with leadership development, mentoring programs, industry qualifications and clear career pathways, helping build a highly engaged and capable workforce. Throughout the submission, Marsh consistently demonstrated how it delivers value far beyond price. Throughout his career, he invested deeply in mentoring others, developing future leaders and championing insurance as a rewarding profession. His influence extended well beyond his own organisation through more than two decades of service to the National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA), including as President, where he helped strengthen professional standards and advocate for the broking community.
