ClickShare Enlivens Learning At School For At-Risk Kids—The Charter School of San Diego
"Daring to make a difference" is the motto of The Charter School of San Diego (CSSD), whose goal is to place each student on a pathway to success. Utilizing a combination of live instruction, independent study and online learning, CSSD creates a personalized, high-quality education program that meets the unique needs of each student. One tool that's proven to be highly effective for both teachers and students is ClickShare, which enhances the learning experience with real-time visuals to reinforce lessons and encourage student participation. "ClickShare not only enhances instruction and idea-sharing in the classroom, it furthers our mission of preparing students with technology skills for the real working world.
Unlocking Human Potential
The Charter School of San Diego has been working to change the way students learn for more than 20 years, employing innovative teaching techniques and resources to meet the individualized needs of at-risk children. "Our students come from all walks of life, with many several grade levels behind in basic math and language skills. It is critical that we find new ways to engage them with different tools than they were exposed to at their traditional schools," said Tiffany Yandell, Operations Coordinator for CSSD. In addition to maintaining a top-notch teaching staff, CSSD's curriculum is infused with appropriate technology-based activities and assignments that facilitate learning. With 22 workstations, including dozens of computers, iPads, and other devices, CSSD needed a way to bring all of the technologies together in a cohesive, collaborative way to facilitate instruction and communication.
Connecting Students, Teachers And Ideas
"ClickShare came to our attention when we were exploring options for screensharing solutions to create a more inclusive educational experience," Yandell said. "ClickSharehas brought a new dimension to our workshops, encouraging teachers
and students to engage in a lively dialog to enrich the lessons." Instructors can integrate PowerPoint with notes, annotate a picture, and pull in a web browser all at once to reinforce concepts. "ClickShare makes learning ‘live' and more interactive, so teachers can immediately address questions or students can help each other. Our students really love it, too. It allows them to share ideas and to collaborate in new ways, which helps a lot of our students embrace learning."

Because teachers move around the campus, quick set-up and transitions between classes are a must. "Teachers can simply grab a Button and connect their content…it makes teaching truly portable and compact! ClickShare offers different possibilities when compared to a lot of the electronic whiteboard technologies out there. It's also so simple to integrate into our classrooms, with no training needed since they aren't learning a new platform and already know the applications."
