PHYSICAL MODEL

Returning to Grain
Spring 2026 |Architecture Design Studio V | Dr. Ahmed K. Ali
The Challenge: Understand the intelligence of traditional Japanese joinery through the fabrication of two joints. The Constraint: Our own skill. Work between hand tools and ship machinery to test differences in speed, accuracy, and control. The Creation: Precisely crafted (mostly) joints that demonstrate the capabilities and dignity of wood, and the realities of learning while making.

Houston Energy Corridor: The Energy Plaza
Fall 2024 | Architecture Design Studio III | Dr.
|Maddie
The Energy Plaza re-imagines a part of Houston’s Energy Corridor, blending residential, civic, and recreational spaces into a vibrant community hub. With a mix of high-rise and low-rise apartments, a central park, and a dynamic civic center, it creates a welcoming environment for both residents and visitors to connect, live, and thrive..

Iteration

CIVIC CENTER

We experimented this semester with Veras, an A.I. rendering software. It was interesting to see how the software interpreted the geometry and material choices based off the given prompts.

When compared to the images rendered intentionally, the process becomes more clear. The intention was to mimic a natural environment in each setting, capitalizing on unique incorporations of daylighting.
