Tourism in Qatar Visitors from other GCC countries made up the largest share at 36%, followed by Europe by 26%, Asia and Oceania by 22%, the Americas by 7%, other Arab countries by 7%, and Africa by 2%. Key developments supporting long-term growth include the GCC Unified Tourist Visa, which is set to facilitate multi-country Gulf travel from late 2025, expected to increase visitor numbers and extend stays.

In 2017, Qatar introduced visa-free or visa on arrival entry for citizens of 102 countries. Others can apply for an e-visa using the Hayya platform hayya.qa, in addition to other tourist and visit visas. Qatar is among the safest countries in the world, according to Numbeo, a database of user-contributed data about cities and countries worldwide. Qatar ranked third safest country globally in the 2025 Safety Index, with a Safety Index score of 84.6. In the 2025 Quality of Life Index by Country, Qatar achieved a score of 193.3, placing it ninth globally and nine places higher than in 2024. Doha specifically ranked third among 62 Asian cities in the 2025 Quality of Life Index by City, scoring 178.7, with a Purchasing Power Index of 151.8, Safety Index of 84.1, and Healthcare Index of 73.4. In addition, Qatar is the safest country in the Middle East, and eighth safest in the world, for expats to live in 2025, according to recent statistics from Expatriate Group, a global conglomerate dedicated to providing international healthcare insurance for expats living, working, or studying abroad. In 2022, the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism named Doha as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2023.

Tourist arrivals In the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, 1.5 mn visitors were recorded – primarily from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), accounting for 36% of the total number of visitors. In the first half of the year (H1), international arrivals surpassed 2.6 mn, marking a 3% increase over the same period in 2024. At time of going to press (November 2025), forecasts for the full year suggest arrivals could reach approximately 5.3 mn in 2025.

According to QT Chairman, Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, the country’s current tourism goal is not simply to increase visitor numbers or top regional arrival charts, but to attract travellers to stay longer.

Hospitality sector

Tourism in Qatar

A range of visas announced by Qatar Tourism (QT), the official body responsible for developing and promoting tourism in Qatar, has made the country more accessible to the world and has been widely welcomed by tourism professionals, as well as by the hospitality and retail sectors.

Visitor arrivals have peaked this year with key events, such as the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025™, Formula 1® Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2025™ and FIA Formula 2 Championship 2025™, and FIFA Arab Cup 2025™. In addition, the 2025– 2026 cruise season kicked off in November 2025.

With a total of 40,787 hotel keys and 7,000 more in the pipeline, Qatar’s hospitality sector continues to set new records. Qatar’s tourism sector maintained a robust performance in H1 2025, as QT reported that average hotel occupancies reached 71%, a 2-% point increase from H1 2024. In Q1 2025, hotels achieved an estimated occupancy rate of 71%. Overall hotel capacity expanded to 41,240 rooms by June 2015, with new additions including Andaz Doha, by Hyatt and Rosewood Doha, according to QT’s latest data. Within the sector, 1- to 3-star hotels recorded the highest occupancy at 82.9%, likely due to limited supply in comparison to 4- and 5-star hotels. Serviced apartments also performed well, achieving 80.04% occupancy between April and June 2025. Average daily rates rose by 6% during the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, while year-to-date performance fell slightly by 1% year-on-year (YoY). Revenue per available room increased by 2.5% to QAR321, reflecting steady revenue growth.

Cruise industry The 2024–2025 cruise season, which took place from November 2024 to April 2025, hosted over 90 cruise calls and 430,000 passengers, making it the country’s biggest cruise season yet. QT and Mwani Qatar marked the launch of the 2025–2026 cruise season with the arrival of the luxury cruise ship MSC Euribia. Running from November 2025 until May 2026, this season is expecting to welcome 72 cruise calls, including 40 partial turnaround calls, 15 turnaround calls,

and three maiden calls to Qatar. Throughout the season, several well-known cruise ships will dock at the Cruise Terminal operated by Mwani Qatar, such as MS Seven Seas Navigator, Celestyal Discovery, and Aroya Cruises, which is visiting Doha Port for the first time, reflecting Qatar’s growing status as a leading global cruise tourism destination. Over the past few years, QT and Mwani Qatar, the organisations responsible for managing the country’s shipping terminals and seaports, have established a number of strong relationships with international cruise operators as well as with other specialists involved in the industry. Cruise passengers can also avail the new transit visa. It includes the use of enhanced technology and close collaboration between cruise operators and security officials – a passenger manifest containing the passport details of passengers and crew will be shared with immigration officials 48 hours prior to a ship’s arrival in Qatar. This allows authorities to process all relevant information and clear passengers for entry before the ship's berthing, enabling travellers to disembark within minutes and begin on-shore excursions. With the completion of the Old Doha Port redevelopment, and the associated capacity increase, which allows the port to receive two megaships at once, Qatar is expected to attract 500,000 cruise tourists by 2026. The Next Chapter On World Tourism Day 2017, Qatar launched the Next Chapter of the Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy 2030, aimed to be fully implemented by 2030. The five-year plan placed an enhanced end-

to-end visitor experience at the heart of tourism development. Aiming to attract 6 mn visitors by 2030, the Tourism Strategy 2030 guides QT’s efforts to enhance tourism and advance the sector. The strategy focuses on key areas such as developing a rich collection of museums and cultural landmarks, hosting world-class conventions and exhibitions, constructing exceptional urban developments, attracting major sporting events, promoting top-tier educational opportunities at world-renowned universities, and building a stateof-the-art airport along with one of the world’s most advanced rail transit systems. In January 2024, the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3) for the State of Qatar 2024–2030 was announced, identifying tourism as a major sector within the economic diversification clusters entrusted with contributing to achieving sustainable economic growth. Tourism is expected to play a greater role in Qatar’s economy as the sector’s share of the country’s GDP will be nearly QAR133.5 bn in 2028, reports the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Travel and tourism investment in Qatar may exceed QAR14.5 bn, or 4.2% of total investments in the country, in 2028. m

It’s All About Ramadan

he holy month of Ramadan is when Muslims across the world fast completely during the daylight hours of each day until the maghrib (sunset) prayer, refraining from food and drink, and as well as intimate contact and smoking. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. The Holy Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad during the holy month of Ramadan on a night known as Laylat Al Qadr (The Night of Destiny or Power). In addition, fasting in Ramadan is the fourth of the five pillars of Islam, meaning it’s an obligation for Muslims. The fasting period during Ramadan is called ‘sawm’ which literally means ‘to refrain’. As a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God, and practice self-sacrifice, Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking. Muslims are to refrain from evil actions as well, including thoughts and words. Muslims are called upon to use this month to re-evaluate their lives in light of Islamic guidance. They are to make peace with those who have wronged them, strengthen ties with family and friends, do away with bad habits – essentially cleansing their lives, thoughts and feelings.

The Islamic calendar The Islamic calendar, also known as the Hijri calendar, is based on the cycles of the moon and so the date of Ramadan changes every year according to the Gregorian calendar. This year, it’s expected to begin around 1 March and end on 30 March 2025. Every month begins with the sighting of a new moon in the Hijri calendar. This means that Ramadan can differ slightly from country to country as the new moon is sighted. The week leading up to Ramadan can be quite exciting, as each country declares Ramadan. The new moon has to be sighted with the naked eye by Muslims in Qatar and in other Muslim countries, who then report to a special committee and if consensus is obtained, Ramadan is declared. Expectation is high in Qatar as Ramadan is the most anticipated month of the Islamic calendar.

The Quran The first verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet Muhammad during Ramadan on Laylat Al Qadr (The Night of Destiny or Power). It is thought to take place around the last 10 days of Ramadan, generally on the 23rd to the 27th day of the month. Muslims believe that on Laylat Al Qadr, God blesses everyone, forgives all sins, grants all prayers, and angels come down to earth. Muslims believe the Quran is the sacred message from Allah to humanity. The Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad by God in stages – first from Allah to the angel Gabriel and then to Prophet Muhammad. This message was given to the Prophet in pieces over a period spanning approximately 23 years (610 CE to 632 CE). The Prophet was 40 years old when the Quran began to be revealed to him, and he was 63 when the revelation was completed. The language of the original message was in Classical Arabic (CA). Also known as Quranic Arabic, CA is the form of the Arabic language used in literary texts from Umayyad and Abbasid times (7th to 9th centuries). The Quran is one of two sources which form the basis of Islam. The second source is the sunnah of the Prophet. Unlike the sunnah, the Quran is literally the Word of Allah, whereas the sunnah is the wording and actions of the Prophet. The Quran has not been expressed using any human’s words. Its wording is letter for letter fixed by no one but Allah. Today’s readers can find exact copies of it all over the world. The Quran of today is the same as the Quran revealed to Prophet Muhammad 1,400 years ago.

Ramadan practices It’s sunnah for Muslims to break their fast with dates. Some Muslims break their fast with dates and laban (yogurt), to prepare and ease their stomachs into eating again. After this, they pray the maghrib prayer either before or after having iftar, which is the evening meal in which Muslims break their fast. When there was little access to clocks, a cannon was fired every day during Ramadan to mark the end of the fasting period. Still today, in Qatar, a cannon is fired every day to mark the end of the fast and begining of iftar time. In the Gulf region, many families eat separately. Men congregate at the majlis, a reception room for male guests attached to the family home. The women of the house prepare a huge amount of food for the family, friends and neighbours. Breaking the fast is like a nightly celebration – daily. The second most important meal after iftar is the suhoor, which is a pre-dawn meal. Suhoor is the meal consumed early morning before fajr prayer – before sunrise – which is when Muslims begin the fasting or sawm during Ramadan. Suhoor is regarded by Islamic traditions as a benefit of the blessings in that it allows the person fasting to avoid weakness caused by the fast. In addition to fasting, Muslims attempt to read the whole Quran, which comprises 114 chapters. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world follow the example of Prophet Muhammad, staying awake and standing in long prayers, striving to get closer to Allah. Besides the obligatory five prayers Muslims perform on a daily basis, during Ramadan, Muslims are encouraged to perform non-obligatory, additional night prayers. The most important of these during Ramadan is Taraweeh, which is an evening prayer performed daily at the mosque. The second most important prayer in Ramadan is Qiyam Al Layl, which is an expression derived from the Quran for what is also known as Tahajjud prayer. Tahajjud is preferably offered after midnight, but before fajr. Like the Tarawih, Qiyam Al Layl is a night prayer performed through the last 10 days of Ramadan.

The exceptions (the non-fasting) Every able Muslim is required to fast with the exception of the elderly, the sick (cancer, diabetes, transplant recipient) and infirm, pregnant and nursing mothers, and travellers. If they can, they are expected to make up the days missed before the next Ramadan. In addition, children are not obligated to fast during Ramadan until they reach puberty. However, children gradually begin practicing fasting around the age of seven.

Health issues Although Ramadan will begin in March when the weather is still considered pleasant in Qatar, it may be warm and temperatures may rise towards 30°C during the day, especially closer to April, and so it’s best to refrain from walking as you may suffer from dehydration especially for those fasting. If you are taking medication, you should consult your doctor before fasting. When breaking your fast during the evening, try and eat slow-digesting, high-fibre foods that contain grains (oats, barley and lentils), and more fruit and dairy products. Drinking more liquids will help you avoid lethargy and low blood pressure. It’s advisable to reduce your caffeine and tobacco consumption slowly before and during Ramadan to avoid headaches; you don’t want to be suffering from withdrawal!

Garangao in Ramadan On the 14th day of Ramadan in Qatar and the Gulf, children celebrate a traditional festival called Garangao. They go from door to door in groups, dressed in traditional costumes with large bags chanting ‘Give us something and Allah will give you. The house of Mecca, he will take you.’ It is a good idea to stock up on nuts, dried fruit and sweets to fill their bags and send them away happy. It’s a celebration that Qatari children look forward to all year round. Some people adorn their homes with lights for Garangao, Eid Al Fitr, and Ramadan.

Then comes Eid Al Fitr The last few days of Ramadan are very busy for Muslims as they prepare for Eid Al Fitr, the Festival of Fast-Breaking, which will fall around 30 March 2025. Eid Al Fitr is a three-day celebration that marks the end of Ramadan. It’s a celebration of the efforts made during the holy month. Houses are cleaned from top to bottom, the whole family gets a complete set of new clothes and even more sweets and chocolates are bought to welcome Eid visitors. The atmosphere is remarkably relaxed and vibrant as Eid Al Fitr is a three-day national holiday. Many people take this opportunity to travel, taking advantage of all the airlines’ Eid deals. Qatar is rather quiet during this time, as the remaining population enjoys their time leisurely, visiting family members and eating out. It’s customary to wish people ‘Eid Mubarak’ which means ‘Blessed Eid’.

Ramadan do’s and don’ts During Ramadan in Qatar, it’s illegal to smoke, drink, eat and even chew gum in public places for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. If you flout the rules you could end up with a fine from the police or even in prison. In addition, avoid singing or dancing in public and dress more conservatively and modestly, especially if you are a woman. All cafés, restaurants, juice stalls and fast food outlets close during the day and reopen after sunset. However, hotels remain open to serve their guests though a majority of restaurants and cafés in hotels will close during the day. During Ramadan, alcohol is completely banned. Restaurants will not sell alcohol, and Qatar Distribution Company (QDC), bars, lounges and nightclubs close for the month. Opening times of shops change; most shops close around noon (when it’s the hottest), but are open in the morning and late into the night. Some supermarkets open during the afternoon, but it is best to check with your local store. After sunset, malls and souqs become incredibly busy and parking spaces are scarce. During Ramadan, working hours are shorter. According to the Qatar Labour Law, you may only work 36 hours a month during Ramadan, which is six hours a day. Offices usually close around 2 pm, if not earlier.

We fast, too As Qatar brings together people from various parts of the world with different faiths. The holy month of Ramadan starts conversation about other faiths’ interpretations of fasting. Although the practice of religious fasting is most commonly attributed to Islam, many other religions engage in a form of fasting. The Catholic Church historically observes the disciplines of fasting and abstinence at various times each year. For Catholics in the Christian season of Lent, fasting is 40 days, consisting of the reduction of one’s intake of food, while abstinence refers to refraining from meat (or another type of food). The purpose of fasting is spiritual focus, self-discipline, imitation of Christ, and performing penance. The Copts, who belong mostly to the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, observe fasting periods according to the Coptic calendar, fasting between 180 to 210 days a year. Copts adher to a vegan diet, thus abstaining from meat, fish, eggs, dairy and other animal products. The Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year in Judaism. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with an approximate 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. In addition, in Hinduism, there are a diverse range of fasting practices which depend on factors such as personal beliefs, local customs and preferred deities. There are also fasting practices that help with weight loss and health issues such as Intermittent fasting (IF), which is currently one of the world’s most popular health and fitness trends. IF is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. m

Qatar National Day Qatar National Day is celebrated on 18 December to commemorate Qatar’s unification in 1878. It marks the day in 1878 when Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, the founder of modern Qatar, succeeded his father, Sheikh Mohammed bin Thani, as ruler. Sheikh Jassim is remembered for uniting the tribes of the peninsula and laying the foundations of the modern Qatari state. The day was officially established as Qatar National Day in 2007 by an Amiri Decree, replacing Independence Day (3 September 1971) as the main national holiday. This is the most anticipated day in Qatar, when key landmarks across Doha – from Doha Corniche and Souq Waqif to Katara Cultural Village, The Pearl Island, and Lusail City – are adorned in white and maroon (Al Adam maroon), the colours of the Qatari flag. Homes, businesses, hotels, and even cars join in the celebrations, decorated with flags, lights, flowers, and creative ornaments. Portraits of HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and HH The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani are proudly displayed, adding to the spirit of unity and pride that fills the country. attended by HH The Amir, members of the royal family, ministers, and dignitaries. Spectacular fireworks come out on Qatar National Day and often incorporate national songs and drone displays. The annual Qatar National Day fireworks usually take place at Doha Corniche either during the morning or evening, and last for 10 minutes. Fireworks also take place at Katara Cultural Village and on Al Maha Island in Lusail City. Another popular destination during National Day is Darb Al Saai, which means ‘Route of the Messenger.’ It is the largest venue for National Day celebrations and is annually attended by HH The Amir and other members of the royal family. Previously held in a temporary space in Al Sadd, Darb Al Saai found a permanent home in Umm Slal Mohammed in December 2022, covering an area of 150,000 sq m. Open for at least 10 days before National Day, the venue is designed to resemble a traditional Qatari village, featuring cultural activities such as musical performances, henna, horse riding, and falconry. Visitors can also explore stalls offering food, drinks, and shopping. In addition, several ministries, including the Ministry of Interior, as well as leading companies and organisations such as Qatar Rail, Mwani Qatar, Ashghal, Ooredoo, Vodafone, and Qatar Foundation (QF), host large tents with interactive presentations and activities for the public.

And then comes Christmas It's easy to feel festive around Christmas in Qatar as hotels, restaurants, cafés and malls get into gear especially with Christmas decorations – lights, trees and more. In addition, Qatar has a Religious Complex in Abu Hamour with several Christian denominations where you can attend Christmas services. Christmas decorations in Qatar can be found at furniture stores such as IKEA and Homes Centre; value retail outlets such as Al Rawnaq, DAISO, HEMA, Dollar Plus, and Dragon Mart; and major supermarkets including Carrefour, Monoprix, Lulu, and Al Meera. They are also available through delivery apps such as Talabat and Snoonu, and of course, online.

The main display takes place along Lusail Boulevard in Lusail City, where dazzling fireworks, often incorporating drone shows, are launched from the futuristic buildings lining the street, culminating in a spectacular show above Al Saad Plaza.

The first day of 2026 and all that comes after The new year celebrations do not end at New Year's Eve. New Year's Day is equally important. If you need to recharge, or simply fancy another day out with friends and family to enjoy the first day of the year, unwind with a brunch (with or without bubbly). Celebrating the New Year is not about just one night, but a whole year of 365 days. There will plenty of things to do and see. The first quarter of 2026 will begin with the holy month of Ramadan, which is expected to begin on 18 February 2026, followed by Eid Al Fitr on 20 March 2026 and Eid Al Adha on 27 May 2026, depending on the moon sighting. Qatar National Sports (Sport) Day, an annual official public holiday, promoting a healthy lifestyle through various sports and fitness activities for all, is observed on the second Tuesday of February. What's in the Stars? By Terry Sutcliffe How the star-based hotel rating system evolve.

operation grew, field inspectors—generally teachers and graduate students during their summer break— got a three-day crash course and were sent out to work.

You might seek recommendations from business colleagues, friends, or even family members but the chances are you’ll get mixed opinions. After all, different people have different reasons for what constitutes a “good” hotel and what makes a hotel less appealing.

In 2009, the original Mobil Travel Guide was relaunched as the Forbes Travel Guide and now it’s entirely online. Unlike user-generated review sites with inconsistent standards, the Forbes incognito inspectors have checked into thousands of hotels, dined at just as many restaurants, and experienced scores of spa treatments, using up to 900 standards to determine the ratings. The ratings are:

apping out the details of a trip can be tricky, especially when going somewhere you been before. Once you’ve decided on the destination, it’s time to start selecting hotels. With so much to consider, selecting the perfect place can be difficult.

Your next step might be the internet. Travel sites, often user-generated, including TripAdvisor, Expedia, Kayak, Travelocity, and Orbitz all offer rating systems. But do you know precisely what their ratings mean or where their stars (or whatever icons they use) came from? A little history on the hotel star system might come in handy. In 1958, Mobil, the international oil and gas corporation, began funding a project that paid anonymous assessors to review restaurants, hotels, and spas. Thus, the five-star rating system and the Mobil Travel Guide were born. The guide devised the five-star system to help travelers objectively determine where to eat and stay while traveling in the US. Marion and Alden Stevens, authors of The Stevens America, a Traveler's Guide to the United States, published in 1950, contacted publishers Simon & Schuster about doing another travel book. Max L Schuster, a fan of France’s Guide Michelin, offered the Stevenses an opportunity to create a Michelin-style guide for the US. After much negotiation, Magnolia Oil (later incorporated into Mobil, which became ExxonMobil) agreed to finance the project. Since Magnolia’s territory covered Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico, the first pocket-sized 1958-59 Mobil Travel Guide covered that region.

• Five-Star: These are outstanding, often iconic properties with virtually flawless service and amazing facilities. • Four-Star: These are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match. • Recommended: These are excellent properties with consistently good service and facilities. In addition to the Forbes Travel Guide, the other top rating system in the US is the AAA Five Diamond Awards, which uses diamonds to denote what rating a hotel or restaurant may receive. In most countries around the world, the hotel rating system comes under the authority of the government; in Qatar, it comes under Qatar Tourism (QT).

Once the Stevenses signed on to produce the Mobil Travel Guide, they hired and trained nine people, paying them USD1.75 per inspection. As the

In 2004, HOTREC, an umbrella association of hotels, restaurants, pubs and cafes and similar establishments in Europe, and its associations have been working on bringing the hotel classification systems in the various European countries closer to one another. In 2009, seven members committed to apply almost identical criteria for their hotel classification and created the Hotelstars Union under the patronage of HOTREC. Since its creation, 11 additional European countries joined the initiative. Today Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland are members of the star family. The UK, France and Spain also have a five-star system, but their system is reassessed every five years. Star ratings generally run from one through to five. A greater number of stars corresponds with an increasing sense of luxury (and often a bigger price tag). It’s a graded system, with steps up between the bottom and top ratings. In many countries, they are follows: • One-Star: Budget facilities that are clean and secure. Guests may be able to access fee-based services or facilities.

Most of the hotels in Qatar are Five-Star hotels with well-known hotel brands such as Hilton, Marriott, InterContinental, and many more. Officially, Six-Star and Seven-Star ratings do not exist – they are not offered by a formal or official body. According to international hotel classification systems, the maximum rating a hotel can achieve across the world is officially Five-Stars. However, experienced journalists, reviewers and guests created a coveted, unofficial Six-Star and SevenStar categories in online and public discourse. These hotels exceed the luxury and premium service required to attain a Five-Star rating from an official body. To the public, these hotels include Burj Al Arab in Dubai, Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, Hotel Plaza Athenee in Paris, the Pangu 7 Star Hotel in Beijing and Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. Properities of Raffles Hotels and Resorts, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts, and many others are usually considered Six-Star and Seven-Star properities for their ultraluxury accommodation, facilities and services. m

The entire building stands as an architectural and design statement, harmonising form, function, and philosophy. The Ned Doha celebrates local and regional creativity with an extensive collection of original artworks created by close to 100 artists, more than half of whom are based in Doha and nearly three quarters of whom are female. The clock stands 5.8 ft high (10.4 ft from ground), is 4.9 ft long and 8.6 inches wide, and weighs approximately 771 pounds. Qabila Westbay Hotel 24 Hours in Qabila Westbay: What Happens When You Stay In Author: Weslee Dizon

ome hotels want to impress you the moment you walk in: grand lobbies, dramatic chandeliers, the whole show. Qabila Westbay Hotel takes a different route. It’s relaxed, not flashy, but still very much five-star, just with its feet on the ground. Part of the Marriott group, Qabila is located on Corniche Road. If you live in Doha, you know the area: five minutes to the beach, five minutes to City Center Doha, and a short drive from the airport. Basically, central without being chaotic.

Day One Lunch at QHub Immediately after check in (which was a breeze, by the way), we kicked things off with a late lunch at QHub, Qabila’s sports bar-meets-shisha lounge. It’s got a casual vibe, plenty of screens if you’re into sports, and an outdoor shisha terrace that would be lovely at sunset. We dug into fajita chicken nachos, a chargrilled burger that came stacked and juicy, a Greek salad for balance, and a couple of sharing platters – cheese and fresh fruit. QHub keeps things lively with daily deals like Hops & Bites, bucket promos, and a dedicated Ladies Night every Thursday, perfect for unwinding with friends over good food and drinks. Dinner in-room Later that night, we stayed in but made it feel special. Dinner was delivered to our room, and they didn’t just leave it on a tray. The team actually set up a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows, transforming a regular night in into something quietly elegant. City lights, a hint of sea view, a quiet atmosphere, no dress code; just our own private little dinner. We went with a cold mezze platter, a perfectly done beef tenderloin steak, spaghetti Bolognese (because comfort food is always a good idea), and a slice of classic cheesecake to finish.

STAYCATION REVIEW Day Two Breakfast at ForKnife The next morning, we headed down to ForKnife, the hotel’s main dining space. Breakfast was full and familiar: eggs, cereals, salads, pancakes, fruits, hot mains, live cooking stations, all the usual suspects. The space was calm, the coffee was hot, it was slow and quiet, the way mornings should be.

The best part, actually, was the service that seems to anticipate you. Every request was answered almost instantly. It’s like someone was always just outside, waiting to help but never hovering. Special mention to Kerim, the Assistant Marketing Manager, and the team at Qabila, who didn’t just do the usual hospitality routine. They actually checked in and made sure everything ran smoothly.

Final thoughts

We spent some time after breakfast checking out the rooftop pool on the 26th floor, with sweeping views of the city and the coast. It’s not a party pool, but more a delightful, peaceful lookout spot with water.

You know those hotels that get better the longer you stay? Qabila Westbay gives off that energy. It doesn’t try to overwhelm you with extravagance; instead, it offers comfort with intention, and luxury with subtlety.

The gym, one floor down and part of the wellness area, had its own city views too. It was well-equipped and quietly motivating.

It’s ideal for travellers who prefer calm over spectacle, and locals who just need a break without leaving the city. It’s polished, welcoming, and efficient without needing to shout about it.

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. We checked into a 2-bedroom suite on the 42nd floor, and let’s just say – the view was next level. Overlooking Doha’s skyline, beaches, and high-rises, it was the kind of view that makes you stop and appreciate the moment. The suite itself was spacious, spotless, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We kicked things off with a solid session in the 24/7 gym. It’s a great size with a wide range of equipment, from treadmills and stair steppers to weights and machines for a full-body workout. Whether you’re a guest or a long term resident, you can definitely get a proper sweat on here. Post-workout, we chilled in the suite, caught up on some TV, and got competitive over a few rounds of UNO (standard bro-cation behaviour). Then it was time to get ready for dinner. Dinner at IKA South American Restaurant was an absolute highlight. We had a bottle of Nederburg White Wine and went all in and sampled a variety of their signature dishes, including: Spicy Tuna Roll

By the end of it, we were so full we had to take the desserts back to the room – no way were we letting those sweet and tasty treats go to waste! Here’s a cool fact: Aleph Doha Residences is home to the highest indoor swimming pool in Doha – on the 52nd floor! Naturally, we had to check it out. The views were unreal, and we had a great time swimming, relaxing, and unwinding in the steam room. It was the perfect way to end the night. The next morning, we were buzzing to return to IKA for breakfast – and it didn’t disappoint. The buffet spread was impressive: freshly baked croissants, breakfast classics like hash browns, beans, sausages, and even noodles! There were cereals, chia seed pudding, mango yogurt, fresh fruit, cooked eggs, and a waffle and omelette station. My personal favourite? The coffee station – a must for any caffeine lover. They also offered table service, so I went for a delicious avocado toast with eggs, while my mate gave in to his sweet tooth with waffles topped with chocolate, black raspberry, kiwi and strawberries. After fuelling up, we headed to Doha Sands Beach Club, thanks to the complimentary voucher provided at reception. Even with the 43°C heat, the beach was buzzing – but there was still plenty of space and

beach beds for us to drop our bags and soak in the views of the sand, sea, and West Bay skyline. We swam in the sea, played foosball, table tennis, and even had a go at volleyball with a beach ball (yes, really). It was a great mix of fun and relaxation. Maysan Doha I Always Wondered What It’d Be Like to Stay at Maysan Doha — Now I Know Author: Weslee Dizon

’ve been to Maysan Doha, LXR Hotels and Resorts, quite a few times — usually for lunch or dinner. The food’s always been great, the atmosphere peaceful, and every time I walked through those quiet garden paths, I’d catch myself thinking: ‘It must feel so good to actually stay here.’ So when we were invited for a staycation, I was genuinely excited. As someone who grew up close to nature, I naturally gravitate toward green spaces and places that remind me of home, and something about Maysan’s palm-lined paths, quiet courtyards, and tropical vibe really hits that sweet spot.

Check-in had a bit of a hiccup — not the smoothest start — but it was eventually resolved, and the team made sure we were looked after from there. Our villa was tucked away, private, and peaceful. It had its own pool (major win), with a small back gate that opened straight into the main pool area — which we basically had to ourselves. The layout of the entire resort feels very intentional. You’re close to everything, but somehow it still feels like you’re hidden away. Personal concierge were also one call away. Dinner was at LaCasa, their Mediterranean restaurant, which I already loved from previous visits — natural lighting, great flavours, and a team that knows when to step in and when to leave you alone. The next morning, breakfast was served in the villa, floating basket and all. It’s a small touch, but it really makes you slow down and enjoy the moment. Maysan also has a lot to offer for families — a kids’ club to keep the little ones entertained, a fitness and sports area if you’re the active type, and a spa if you’re not (I fall somewhere in between). And at night? They have a small outdoor cinema set up in the garden. One thing that really stood out: privacy is clearly a priority here. Even when the resort is occupied, you don’t feel it. You’re not bumping into people every two minutes or hearing noise through the walls. It’s calm, personal, and spacious.

Also worth noting — the location. Maysan is right in Aspire, and literally next door is a small food park. So if you feel like stepping out for a bite or a quick walk after dark, it’s just a few steps away. We spent most of our stay doing a whole lot of nothing, but in a good way. ometimes, all you need is a quick escape without leaving the city – and that’s exactly what we found during our staycation at Centara West Bay Hotel & Residences, Doha. From check-in to checkout, every moment had the perfect blend of relaxation, indulgence, and fun.

Check-in and settle-in We arrived an hour later than the check-in time at Centara West Bay, around 4 pm, and were greeted with warm smiles at reception. The check-in process was smooth, and within minutes, we were heading up to our Executive Studio on the 16th floor. The room was modern, spacious, and offered stunning views of the Doha skyline. What really impressed us was how well-equipped the studio was – it had everything from a mini refrigerator with minibar, to a washing machine, dryer, and a fully fitted kitchen with an induction stove, oven, microwave, and all the cooking essentials. A thoughtful touch was our Marhaba printed guide, offering insights into Doha’s tourism, shopping, hospitality, and more; sometimes you want to get away from technology and unplug with a physical guide in hand. For Muslim guests, the inclusion of a prayer mat, Quran, and a Qibla direction marker was a lovely and respectful detail. After a quick room tour, we unpacked, relaxed with some smart TV, freshened up, and got ready for dinner. Dinner at Dalchini Darbar You can never go wrong with great Indian cuisine and the dinner was a true highlight. We headed down to Dalchini Indian Cuisine for their Dalchini Darbar – A Royal Indian Feast. The buffet selection was generous and tempting enough to go back for seconds (and yes, we did!).

STAYCATION REVIEW The rawa fish was crispy and perfectly seasoned, the lahsooni murgh and mutton do pyaza were rich and comforting, and the roghani murgh paired with freshly made naan was simply divine. The Dalchini vegetable biryani was aromatic, fluffy, and full of flavour. We also loved the table-side dry ice dhokla show, where fresh dhoklas and chaats were made with flair. Drinks included masala mojitos, sweet and salted lassi, and our favourite – freshly brewed karak. For dessert, we indulged in rasgulla, semiya payasam and shahi tukda – a sweet lover’s dream. As the evening progressed, the vibe turned festive with open mic karaoke and a live dhol performance. Guests were dancing, singing, and truly enjoying the moment. Morning swim and wellness time We started our morning with a visit to the indoor swimming pool, which also featured a jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna. We arrived early to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and it exceeded expectations – clean and spacious, and even had a kids’ pool area, making it ideal for families. Breakfast at Thai Kitchen Post-swim, we headed to Thai Kitchen for breakfast. The buffet had a great blend of Thai, Arabic and international cuisine, with a live egg station where I ordered five egg whites (yes, five!) with toppings for a protein-packed start. The spread included stir-fry chicken sausages, beef sausages, pancakes, waffles, vegetable soup, pomodoro pasta, aloo paratha with Indian pickles, chickpea salad, chocolate Umm Ali, foul medames, and more. Drinks included masala tea, Arabic coffee, and a variety of juices. And let’s not forget the freshly baked croissants and pastries – a perfect finish. The restaurant itself was spacious, with lovely green plants and a relaxed vibe, giving a vibrant café-like atmosphere.

Beach time at West Bay Only 550 metres from the hotel, we made our way to West Bay Beach. And the best part? Complimentary access, even after checkout. The beach is open until midnight, so we took a relaxing stroll along the shore, listening to the waves, soaking in the sun; and as we stayed until the evening, watching the sunset on the beach was just something else. It’s one of those views where words cannot describe the moment. The beach also offers water sports, volleyball, a kids’ playground, and is pet-friendly, making it a great spot for families, friends, or even a solo unwind. Gym o’clock With breakfast fuelling us, we hit the hotel gym (Cenfit Fitness Centre), which was seriously impressive. It had everything from assault bikes, rowing machines, spin bikes, and a curved manual treadmill, to a full range of strength training equipment – squat racks, free weights, chest fly machines, and more. There was even a separate yoga room for those preferring a low-impact workout. We had a solid back and chest session before cooling down.

Embassy Suites Doha A Stay That Simply Felt Right

rom the moment we stepped into Embassy Suites by Hilton Doha, it just felt right. Everything about the welcome was warm, thoughtful, and personal; the kind of vibe that instantly puts you at ease. We were greeted by Abir, the Front Office Manager, who offered to give us a tour and make sure everything was perfectly in place before we even got to the room. You could just tell she genuinely cared. And during check-in, Daisy Kiprono, the Guest Service Executive, made the whole process feel effortless – all smiles, all good energy. When we walked into the suite, we literally paused for a second. The space was big and open, with calming

neutral tones that felt both elegant and comfortable at the same time. But what really made us smile was the surprise waiting inside a gorgeous welcome spread with fresh fruits, sweets, and a personalised chocolate plaque that said Welcome to Embassy Suites Hotel. Next to it was a handwritten message and a beautiful gift bag from the hotel. It honestly felt like walking into a place that already knew how to make your day. After we settled in and started checking out the suite, something on the bed instantly caught our attention: a beautiful flower design made entirely out of towels, with little red petals delicately placed on top. It was one of those simple but genuinely heart-warming touches. Then we noticed there were two bathrooms in the suite, It felt more like a private spa than just a hotel bathroom. Spacious, spotless, beautifully lit – even the little design touches made it feel special without being over the top. And the best part? We had only just arrived, and already it felt like we were being genuinely taken care of. Every corner of the suite had something thoughtful about it and this was just the beginning of the stay The fitness centre is on the fourth floor and is open 24/7. It was way more than we expected. It wasn’t your typical hotel gym tucked in a corner with a few machines. This one was spacious, clean, and honestly felt more like a proper fitness centre than a hotel amenity. We didn’t plan a full workout, but it definitely made us pause: ‘Wait… should we stay longer?’ After a quick shower, we made our way to the roof‑top pool, timing it just right for sunset. Man, it felt like we looked out with the best light and breeze. The views across Doha looked cinematic as the sky turned golden against the silhouetted skyline. They had loungers partially submerged in the water and shaded daybeds beside the terrace proper, offering serious chilled vibes. There was even a jacuzzi tucked off to the side, and a pool bar (IVY Terrace) serving mocktails and light bites. It was peaceful yet felt alive; a great way to unwind before dinner. After all that exploring and activity, we crashed back at the suite and decided to go for in-room dining (because why not, right?). We started off light with two fresh appetisers: the fattoush salad, crisp and tangy just the way it should be, and the smoked salmon salad, which felt like something you’d expect at a fine dining spot, not just room service. For the main course, we went with butterfly chicken, tender and well-seasoned, and the mixed grill, which had a solid variety and that perfect smoky flavour. We paired it with two extremely fresh orange juices that hit just right after a full day.

Then came dessert. Honestly? It was the best way to wrap things up. The tiramisu was soft, creamy, and rich without being too heavy, and the crème brûlée had that perfect crisp top you can’t help but tap with your spoon before diving in. After our cozy dinner and dessert marathon, my friend stepped out to clear his mind and catch up on the news. He headed to the first floor, where there’s a quiet, well-organised Diplomatic Business Area ideal for reading, browsing, or just sitting down to get a few things done. The space had a clean, modern look with computer stations, a neutral colour palette, and a relaxed feel. Next morning, we headed down to Copper & Spice for breakfast. The space had a calm, welcoming atmosphere with soft lighting, warm colours, and floorto-ceiling windows letting in the early sunlight. The setup was neat and classy, with both cozy indoor seating and a buffet area that felt spacious, not crowded. The food? Just what we needed to start the day right fresh, flavourful, and with a good variety. From eggs made to order to freshly baked pastries and local
