Tourism in Qatar

Due to recent developments in the region, some conditions in Qatar and the wider Middle East may have evolved. The information and statistics in this article reflect the most recent data available prior to these changes.

A range of visas launched by Qatar Tourism (QT), the official body responsible for developing and promoting tourism in Qatar, has made the country more accessible to the world. Qatar offers visafree or visa on arrival entry for citizens of 102 countries. Others can apply for an e-visa using the Hayya platform hayya.qa, in addition to other tourist and visit visas. Qatar is among the safest countries in the world. According to Numbeo, a database of user-contributed data about cities and countries worldwide, Qatar ranked third safest country globally in the 2025 Safety Index with a score of 84.6. In the 2025 Quality of Life Index by Country, Qatar ranked ninth globally with a score of 193.3.

Qatar has also been ranked as the safest country in the Middle East, and eighth safest in the world, for expats to live in 2025, according to Expatriate Group, a global conglomerate dedicated to providing international healthcare insurance for expats living, working, or studying abroad.

In addition, Doha has been named in the 2026 World's Best Cities Report by Resonance Consultancy, ranking 100th globally, highlighting the country’s sustained progress in economic resilience, infrastructure development and quality of life.

In December 2025, Doha was officially designated as the GCC Tourism Capital 2026 by the GCC General Secretariat. This came shortly after the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism named Doha as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2023

Tourist arrivals

Qatar welcomed 5.1 mn tourists in 2025, according to QT. This performance follows strong growth in 2024, when international arrivals rose by 25% year-on-year. Travellers from across the GCC remain Qatar’s largest source market, accounting for more than 35% of arrivals in 2025, followed by visitors from Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas.

Key developments aimed at boosting tourism and supporting long-term growth include the GCC Unified Tourist Visa, a forthcoming visa designed to allow visitors and residents to travel between all six GCC countries – Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait – with a single, onlineprocessed permit. There are currently more than 400 weekly flights from Gulf cities to Qatar.

Visitor arrivals peaked in 2025 with key events, such as the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025™, Formula 1® Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2025™ and FIA Formula 2 Championship 2025™, and FIFA Arab Cup 2025™. In addition, the 2025–2026 cruise season kicked off in November 2025 and concluded in February 2026.

Qatar’s tourism sector is expected to maintain its strong growth trajectory into 2026, according to the latest Arabian Travel Market (ATM) Travel Trends Report. The year began strong with Qatar hosting the first Art Basel in the region. The inaugural Art Basel Qatar took place from 5 to 7 February 2026, bringing world-class galleries, artists, and audiences together in a landmark new art event, fair and curated showcase of contemporary art. The Web Summit 2026 was held from 1 to 4 February 2026, drawing over 30,000 attendees. Upcoming major events in Qatar this year include Arab Design Now, Design Doha Biennial 2026 and Formula 1® Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2026™.

According to QT Chairman, Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, the country’s current tourism goal is not simply to increase visitor numbers or top regional arrival charts, but to attract travellers to stay longer.

Hospitality sector

Qatar’s hospitality sector continues its upward trajectory, with more than 42,000 hotel keys in operation as of November 2025 and marketwide occupancy surpassing 70%, the highest level recorded in over six years. This growth is driven by new openings such as Andaz Doha by Hyatt, Swissotel Corniche Park Towers Doha and Rosewood Doha, both launched in 2025.

The sector is expected to continue breaking records, with over 7,000 additional hotel keys in the pipeline. Upcoming openings, including Corinthia Gewan Island scheduled for 2027, are set to further expand Qatar’s luxury and lifestyle offerings.

Cruise industry

The 2024–2025 cruise season, which took place from November 2024 to April 2025, hosted over 90 cruise calls and 430,000 passengers, making it the country’s biggest cruise season yet.

QT and Mwani Qatar marked the launch of the 2025–2026 cruise season with the arrival of the luxury cruise ship MSC Euribia. Running from November 2025 until May 2026, this season is expecting to welcome 72 cruise calls, including 40 partial turnaround calls, 15 turnaround calls, and three maiden calls to Qatar. Throughout the season, several well-known cruise ships will dock at the Cruise Terminal operated by Mwani Qatar, such as MS Seven Seas Navigator, Celestyal Discovery, and Aroya Cruises, which is visiting Doha Port for the first time, reflecting Qatar’s growing status as a leading global cruise tourism destination.

Over the past few years, QT and Mwani Qatar, the organisations responsible for managing the country’s shipping terminals and seaports, have established a number of strong relationships with international cruise operators as well as with other specialists involved in the industry.

Cruise passengers can also avail the new transit visa. It includes the use of enhanced technology and close collaboration between cruise operators and security officials – a passenger manifest containing the passport details of passengers and crew will be shared with immigration officials 48 hours prior to a ship’s arrival in Qatar. This allows authorities to process all relevant information

and clear passengers for entry before the ship's berthing, enabling travellers to disembark within minutes and begin on-shore excursions.

With the completion of the Old Doha Port redevelopment, and the associated capacity increase, which allows the port to receive two megaships at once, Qatar is expected to attract 500,000 cruise tourists by 2026. For more information, visit odp.qa

The Next Chapter

On World Tourism Day 2017, Qatar launched the Next Chapter of the Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy 2030, aimed to be fully implemented by 2030. The five-year plan placed an enhanced endto-end visitor experience at the heart of tourism development. Aiming to attract 6 mn visitors by 2030, the strategy guides QT’s efforts to enhance tourism and advance the sector. It focuses on key areas such as developing a rich collection of museums and cultural landmarks, hosting worldclass conventions and exhibitions, constructing exceptional urban developments, attracting major sporting events, promoting top-tier educational opportunities at world-renowned universities, and building a state-of-the-art airport along with one of the world’s most advanced rail transit systems.

In 2024, the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3) for the State of Qatar 2024–2030 was announced, identifying tourism as a major sector within the economic diversification clusters entrusted with contributing to achieving sustainable economic growth. Tourism is expected to play a greater role in Qatar’s economy as the sector’s share of the country’s GDP will be nearly QAR133.5 bn in 2028, reports the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Travel and tourism investment in Qatar may exceed QAR14.5 bn, or 4.2% of total investments in the country, in 2028. m

In 2018, the Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) was established by Amiri Decree No 74 of 2018, dissolving the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA). In 2021, QT was created through Amiri Decree No 15 of 2021, replacing QNTC. QT works to strengthen Qatar’s position as a premier family tourism destination, known for service excellence and aimed at driving diverse and innovative economic growth It promotes and develops tourism by highlighting Qatar’s rich culture, exciting destinations, and luxury experiences, alongside a vibrant calendar of festivals and events. QT continues to expand its global presence with representative offices in London, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Singapore, and other key cities.

Established in 2014, the Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy (QNTSS) 2030 seeks to diversify the country’s tourism offering and increase the sector’s contribution to Qatar’s economy by 2030.

Qatar Climbs Global Rankings

Qatar is rapidly cementing its place among the world’s top tourist destinations.

Due to recent developments in the region, some conditions in Qatar and the wider Middle East may have evolved. The information and statistics in this article reflect the most recent data available prior to these changes.

IIn recent years, Qatar has gained global recognition as a rapidly developing country and an emerging tourist destination, largely driven by the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. It has also drawn attention for its exceptional quality of life, consistently ranking highly in global rankings and indices, reaffirming Qatar’s leadership role in advancing tourism development across the region.

GCC Tourism Capital 2026

In a landmark achievement, Doha has been officially designated as the GCC Tourism Capital 2026 by the GCC General Secretariat on 31 December 2025, within the framework of strengthening joint tourism cooperation among GCC member states. This distinguished recognition celebrates Qatar's significant tourism development, cultural offerings, modern infrastructure, and sustainability efforts, building on its success as Arab Tourism Capital 2023 and aiming to boost regional tourism integration with enhanced experiences, connectivity, and events.

Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Chair of the Board of Directors of Visit Qatar, HE Saad bin Ali Al Kharji, said, 'The selection of Doha as the GCC Tourism Capital for 2026 marks an important milestone that underscores the success of our leadership’s strategic vision in establishing tourism as a central

pillar of the National Development Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030. This recognition reflects the qualitative progress achieved in building an integrated and sustainable tourism ecosystem that is competitive at both regional and global levels, supported by world-class infrastructure, strong connectivity, and an exceptional visitor experience.'

Doha’s selection was driven by its strong transport and mobility infrastructure, including Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar Airways’ extensive global network, and integrated metro and tram systems, alongside flexible visa policies through the Hayya platform and a competitive, investor-friendly environment. The bid highlighted the city’s ability to offer diverse tourism experiences, supported by world-class event and conference facilities, a rich calendar of cultural, sporting and entertainment events, and global promotional efforts. These strengths are reinforced by Qatar’s commitment to sustainability, heritage preservation, eco-tourism, and its growing role in medical and wellness tourism.

'Looking ahead to 2026, this title provides a strategic platform to further strengthen Gulf tourism cooperation, stimulate investment, create new economic opportunities and deliver a lasting legacy that reinforces Doha’s position as a leading regional tourism hub; particularly in business events, major festivals, large-scale activations and family-friendly destination,' said Al Kharji.

Qatar Tourism (QT), and its main tourism arm, Visit Qatar, are set to announce further details soon regarding the GCC Tourism Capital programme in Doha. This will include joint Gulf initiatives, promotional campaigns, and a year-round programme of community, cultural, and entertainment events, designed to deliver sustainable economic and tourism impact and further strengthen Doha’s position within the regional and global tourism landscape.

2025 AlTi Global Social Progress Index

In December 2025, Qatar emerged as a regional leader in social progress in the 2025 AlTi Global Social Progress Index, securing a place in Tier 2 among the world’s 170 assessed nations.

With a score of 73.19 out of 100, Qatar is ranked third in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and 50th globally, demonstrating sustained commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents, even as global social progress has largely stagnated since the onset of the pandemic. Qatar’s ranking positions it ahead of several countries in the MENA region, which has shown slow progress since 2011. Qatar outperforms countries with similar economic profiles, demonstrating that wealth alone doesn’t determine social outcomes.

One of Qatar’s strongest areas in the index is Basic Human Needs, where the country scores highly on access to shelter, clean water, sanitation, electricity, and personal safety. Decades of infrastructure investment, combined with a robust social protection framework, have ensured that citizens and residents alike benefit from high living standards. Low crime rates, modern urban planning, and universal access to essential utilities continue to distinguish Qatar from many regional peers.

Smart City Index 2025

Doha has climbed 15 places into the top tier of global smart cities in the IMD Smart City Index 2025, compiled annually by IMD’s World Competitiveness Centre, with Doha ranking 33rd among 146 cities worldwide.

The index, which rated Doha the third-highest ranked city in the region, assesses cities not just on their infrastructure or digital services, but also on how well those elements translate into everyday life: residents’ perceptions about health and safety, mobility, activities, opportunities, and governance all feed into the score.

A 33rd-place finish puts Doha well ahead of most global cities and confirms the rapid improvements the city has made. This rise marks Doha’s continued trajectory of urban transformation, reinforcing its

status as a rapidly modernising capital, striving to balance infrastructure expansion, technology adoption, and citizens’ quality of life.

What's in the Stars?

How the star-based hotel rating system evolve.

Mapping out the details of a trip can be tricky, especially when going somewhere you been before. Once you’ve decided on the destination, it’s time to start selecting hotels. With so much to consider, selecting the perfect place can be difficult.

You might seek recommendations from business colleagues, friends, or even family members but the chances are you’ll get mixed opinions. After all, different people have different reasons for what constitutes a “good” hotel and what makes a hotel less appealing.

Your next step might be the internet. Travel sites, often user-generated, including TripAdvisor, Expedia, Kayak, Travelocity, and Orbitz all offer rating systems. But do you know precisely what their ratings mean or where their stars (or whatever icons they use) came from? A little history on the hotel star system might come in handy.

In 1958, Mobil, the international oil and gas corporation, began funding a project that paid anonymous assessors to review restaurants, hotels, and spas. Thus, the five-star rating system and the Mobil Travel Guide were born. The guide devised the five-star system to help travelers objectively determine where to eat and stay while traveling in the US.

Marion and Alden Stevens, authors of The Stevens America, a Traveler's Guide to the United States, published in 1950, contacted publishers Simon & Schuster about doing another travel book. Max L Schuster, a fan of France’s Guide Michelin, offered the Stevenses an opportunity to create a Michelin-style guide for the US. After much negotiation, Magnolia Oil (later incorporated into Mobil, which became ExxonMobil) agreed to finance the project. Since Magnolia’s territory covered Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico, the first pocket-sized 1958-59 Mobil Travel Guide covered that region.

Once the Stevenses signed on to produce the Mobil Travel Guide, they hired and trained nine people, paying them USD1.75 per inspection. As the

operation grew, field inspectors—generally teachers and graduate students during their summer break— got a three-day crash course and were sent out to work.

In 2009, the original Mobil Travel Guide was relaunched as the Forbes Travel Guide and now it’s entirely online. Unlike user-generated review sites with inconsistent standards, the Forbes incognito inspectors have checked into thousands of hotels, dined at just as many restaurants, and experienced scores of spa treatments, using up to 900 standards to determine the ratings. The ratings are:

• Five-Star: These are outstanding, often iconic properties with virtually flawless service and amazing facilities.

• Four-Star: These are exceptional properties, offering high levels of service and quality of facility to match.

• Recommended: These are excellent properties with consistently good service and facilities.

In addition to the Forbes Travel Guide, the other top rating system in the US is the AAA Five Diamond Awards, which uses diamonds to denote what rating a hotel or restaurant may receive.

In most countries around the world, the hotel rating system comes under the authority of the government; in Qatar, it comes under Qatar Tourism (QT).

In 2004, HOTREC, an umbrella association of hotels, restaurants, pubs and cafes and similar establishments in Europe, and its associations have been working on bringing the hotel classification systems in the various European countries closer to one another. In 2009, seven members committed to apply almost identical criteria for their hotel classification and created the Hotelstars Union under the patronage of HOTREC. Since its creation, 11 additional European countries joined the initiative. Today Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Slovenia, Sweden and Switzerland are members of the star family.

The UK, France and Spain also have a five-star system, but their system is reassessed every five years.

Star ratings generally run from one through to five. A greater number of stars corresponds with an increasing sense of luxury (and often a bigger price tag). It’s a graded system, with steps up between the bottom and top ratings. In many countries, they are follows:

• One-Star: Budget facilities that are clean and secure. Guests may be able to access fee-based services or facilities.

• Two-Star: Appealing to price conscious travellers, services and facilities are typically limited.

• Three-Star: A broad range of amenities are available, exceeding above-average accommodation needs. Service and design are of good quality.

• Four-Star: With a wide range of facilities, superior design qualities and excellent service, these hotels offer a deluxe guest experience

Art is becoming an essential part of a hotel’s essence and décor with many hotels hiring curators to help them tell their story through art.

Experience the significant role art plays in the hospitality industry in Qatar. Hotels are becoming more than just a place to stay, relax or dine. They are creating a sense of wonder with curated beauty that unfolds in every space with abundant masterful artistry. Due to this, some hotels are being referred to as art hotels, or even architectural or design masterpieces.

Guests have become accustomed to expecting more of their hotel experiences. As one of their many ways to give guests next-level hotel experiences, hotels, especially the luxurious ones, have invested greatly in art by bringing in art curators, also known as a hotel curators, creating aesthetic spaces and forming lasting connections with guests.

The role of a hotel curator

Traditionally, a curator referred to someone who took care of the artefacts or tangible objects in a cultural heritage institution such as a gallery, museum, library or archive, but in present times the term has also been applied to the hospitality sector.

The curator in the hospitality sector focuses on the hotel experience and making sure that guests are constantly stimulated throughout their journey at the hotel, whether that be through events, restaurant experiences, the general look and feel of the hotel, art, design, concerts, human interactions and more. Also known as an art curator or consultant, the role of a hotel curator is a relatively new discipline in hotel design, and is still somewhat fluid. The role brings together the role of an art curator, an interior designer, and designer.

At hotels, curators are tasked with adding local cultural layers, supporting brand values, providing moments of inner reflections, and creating memory anchors guests will take away with them to revisit their experiences.

When creating these spaces, curators should understand the mindset of the guests to find out what it is they are looking for when it comes to the use of colours, textures, and look and feel of the property. The brand identity will then become synonymous with these characteristics.

Hotel art in Qatar

A great first impression is key, and art can play a significant role in doing just that. Today, many hotels are understanding that art can play an important role in leaving guests with a lasting impression.

The hotel also offers four culturally themed studios, The Calligrapher, Weaving, Architecture, and Navigator Studios, alongside geometric mosaics, woven textiles, calligraphy, and contemporary artworks, all narrating the vibrant story of modern Qatar.

Fuwairit Kite Beach Resort (FKB) exudes a relaxed atmosphere yet vibrant with contemporary street art, vivid colours and scattering of quirky décor that reflects the surfer lifestyle of West Coast USA/Hawaii. The graffiti artwork around the hotel is created by local artists. This funky theme reverberates throughout the whole resort and is cleverly fused with iconic Arabic images to pay homage to their Middle Eastern roots. From the

graffiti artwork to the decorative structure around the building, made from rubber flip-flops, it is a sight to behold.

Art, beauty, and elegance are reflected in thousands of crystal droplets adorning the atrium ceiling of InterContinental Doha The City. Le Méridien City Center, Doha recently launched the 'Arrival Artwork' project, in collaboration with Qonexión, to work with local artists to curate and implement a permanent art installation at the hotel’s main lobby. The 'Arrival Artwork' experience starts from the first moment a guest arrives at Le Méridien City Center, Doha, where they are welcomed by a high-impact art installation. Stunning art pieces scattered throughout Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl - Doha will captivate you. More than 50 chandeliers hang in the 5-star luxury hotel, from simple, chic designs to colourful, statement pieces. Outside the hotel, an almost 60 ft tall bespoke bronze sculpture of a horse, designed by Iraqi artist Ahmed Al Bahrani, honours Arabian

The hotel’s architecture and interiors draw from Qatari heritage and nature. The striking exterior features a honeycomb-inspired façade, a tribute to the honey bee, symbolising community and purposeful function. Inside, design elements echo the resilience and form of the Sidr tree, with subtle references to honeycomb structures and Swiss geometric precision integrated into patterns, furnishings, and décor. A soft, natural palette of creams, dove greys, and sage greens, paired with clean lines and minimalist styling, creates a sense of calm and well-being. Floor-to-ceiling windows maximise natural light, enhancing the serene ambiance.

Qatari details, such as carved screens and soft textiles, blend contemporary luxury with local charm. The entire building stands as an architectural and design statement, harmonising form, function, and philosophy. The hotel also plans to host captivating art installations in the future as part of its events calendar.

The Ned Doha celebrates local and regional creativity with an extensive collection of original artworks created by close to 100 artists, more than half of whom are based in Doha and nearly three quarters of whom are female. Commissioned for the property by Wadha Al Aqeedi and Elina Sairanen, the co-founders of Mathqaf, a research-based platform, and a space and source for art and culture from West Asia and North Africa, The Ned Doha Art Collection boasts over 350 artworks, including 60 commissioned works, in a diverse array of media including textile, painting and sculpture, and covers a wide range of themes including identity, history, culture, globalisation and ecology. Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay is a design-led, 44-storey landmark property boasting 283 Art Deco inspired rooms and suites, and 50 luxury apartments, reflecting Waldorf Astoria New York by

echoing key design elements, including beautiful, curated artwork, all of which have a distinct 1930s Art Deco style. A Tiffany & Co clock greets guests as they enter the hotel. Crafted from anodised aluminium, the clock features hands and hour markers in the jeweller’s signature robin’s-egg hue, as well as a diamond motif on the outer ring. The clock stands 5.8 ft high (10.4 ft from ground), is 4.9 ft long and 8.6 inches wide, and weighs approximately 771 pounds. A four-sided bench surrounds the clock, upholstered in a delicate pale mohair. This upholstery is also mirrored in each guest room. A feature Églomisé screen behind the reception desk references the stylised landscapes by Jean Dunand – one of the Art Deco period’s great craftsmen. Custom hand painted De Gournay wallpaper, based on an Art Deco leather dreamscape book cover, provides an atmospheric backdrop to the highly precise, exacting interior architecture.

A Stay That Simply Felt Right

From the moment we stepped into Embassy Suites by Hilton Doha, it just felt right.

Everything about the welcome was warm, thoughtful, and personal; the kind of vibe that instantly puts you at ease.

We were greeted by Abir, the Front Office Manager, who offered to give us a tour and make sure everything was perfectly in place before we even got to the room. You could just tell she genuinely cared. And during check-in, Daisy Kiprono, the Guest Service Executive, made the whole process feel effortless –all smiles, all good energy.

When we walked into the suite, we literally paused for a second. The space was big and open, with calming

neutral tones that felt both elegant and comfortable at the same time. But what really made us smile was the surprise waiting inside a gorgeous welcome spread with fresh fruits, sweets, and a personalised chocolate plaque that said Welcome to Embassy Suites Hotel. Next to it was a handwritten message and a beautiful gift bag from the hotel. It honestly felt like walking into a place that already knew how to make your day.

After we settled in and started checking out the suite, something on the bed instantly caught our attention: a beautiful flower design made entirely out of towels, with little red petals delicately placed on top. It was one of those simple but genuinely heart-warming touches.

Then we noticed there were two bathrooms in the suite, It felt more like a private spa than just a hotel bathroom. Spacious, spotless, beautifully lit – even the little design touches made it feel special without being over the top.

And the best part? We had only just arrived, and already it felt like we were being genuinely taken care of. Every corner of the suite had something thoughtful about it and this was just the beginning of the stay

The fitness centre is on the fourth floor and is open 24/7. It was way more than we expected. It wasn’t your typical hotel gym tucked in a corner with a few machines. This one was spacious, clean, and honestly felt more like a proper fitness centre than a hotel amenity. From cardio to weights, everything was topnotch.

There’s also a separate women’s gym, a thoughtful touch. We didn’t plan a full workout, but it definitely made us pause: ‘Wait… should we stay longer?’

After a quick shower, we made our way to the roof‑top pool, timing it just right for sunset. Man, it felt like we looked out with the best light and breeze. The views across Doha looked cinematic as the sky turned golden against the silhouetted skyline. They had loungers partially submerged in the water and shaded daybeds beside the terrace proper, offering serious chilled vibes.

There was even a jacuzzi tucked off to the side, and a pool bar (IVY Terrace) serving mocktails and light bites. It was peaceful yet felt alive; a great way to unwind before dinner.

After all that exploring and activity, we crashed back at the suite and decided to go for in room dining (because why not, right?).

We started off light with two fresh appetisers: the fattoush salad, crisp and tangy just the way it should be, and the smoked salmon salad, which felt like something you’d expect at a fine dining spot, not just room service.

For the main course, we went with butterfly chicken, tender and well seasoned, and the mixed grill, which had a solid variety and that perfect smoky flavour. We paired it with two extremely fresh orange juices that hit just right after a full day.

Then came dessert. Honestly? It was the best way to wrap things up. The tiramisu was soft, creamy, and rich without being too heavy, and the crème brûlée had that perfect crisp top you can’t help but tap with your spoon before diving in.

After our cozy dinner and dessert marathon, my friend stepped out to clear his mind and catch up on the news. He headed to the first floor, where there’s a quiet, well organised Diplomatic Business Area ideal for reading, browsing, or just sitting down to get a few things done. The space had a clean, modern look with computer stations, a neutral colour palette, and a relaxed feel.

Next morning, we headed down to Copper & Spice for breakfast. The space had a calm, welcoming atmosphere with soft lighting, warm colours, and floor to ceiling windows letting in the early sunlight. The setup was neat and classy, with both cozy indoor seating and a buffet area that felt spacious, not crowded.

The food? Just what we needed to start the day right fresh, flavourful, and with a good variety. From eggs made to order to freshly baked pastries and local

touches like paratha and labneh, it had everything we craved.

Beforehand though, we made one last stop the Library Café on the ground floor. It was the perfect way to wind things down. The space had a calm, almost cozy charm to it, with shelves lined with books in both English and Arabic, a few cozy corners for reading, and a modern yet peaceful setup. Whether you’re into novels, business reads, or travel pieces, there was something for everyone.

ometimes, all you need is a quick escape without leaving the city – and that’s exactly what we found during our staycation at Centara West Bay Hotel & Residences, Doha. From check-in to checkout, every moment had the perfect blend of relaxation, indulgence, and fun.

Check-in and settle-in

We arrived an hour later than the check-in time at Centara West Bay, around 4 pm, and were greeted with warm smiles at reception. The check-in process was smooth, and within minutes, we were heading up to our Executive Studio on the 16th floor. The room was modern, spacious, and offered stunning views of the Doha skyline.

What really impressed us was how well-equipped the studio was – it had everything from a mini refrigerator with minibar, to a washing machine, dryer, and a fully fitted kitchen with an induction stove, oven, microwave, and all the cooking essentials. A thoughtful touch was our Marhaba printed guide, offering insights into Doha’s tourism, shopping, hospitality, and more; sometimes you want to get away from technology and unplug with a physical guide in hand.

For Muslim guests, the inclusion of a prayer mat, Quran, and a Qibla direction marker was a lovely and respectful detail.

After a quick room tour, we unpacked, relaxed with some smart TV, freshened up, and got ready for dinner.

Dinner at Dalchini Darbar

You can never go wrong with great Indian cuisine and the dinner was a true highlight. We headed down to Dalchini Indian Cuisine for their Dalchini Darbar – A Royal Indian Feast. The buffet selection was generous and tempting enough to go back for seconds (and yes, we did!).

The rawa fish was crispy and perfectly seasoned, the lahsooni murgh and mutton do pyaza were rich and comforting, and the roghani murgh paired with freshly made naan was simply divine. The Dalchini vegetable biryani was aromatic, fluffy, and full of flavour.

We also loved the table-side dry ice dhokla show, where fresh dhoklas and chaats were made with flair. Drinks included masala mojitos, sweet and salted lassi, and our favourite – freshly brewed karak. For dessert, we indulged in rasgulla, semiya payasam and shahi tukda – a sweet lover’s dream.

As the evening progressed, the vibe turned festive with open mic karaoke and a live dhol performance. Guests were dancing, singing, and truly enjoying the moment. We couldn’t help but move our shoulders to the beat, even if we didn’t quite know the steps. Next time, we’ll come prepared!

Morning swim and wellness time

We started our morning with a visit to the indoor swimming pool, which also featured a jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna. We arrived early to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and it exceeded expectations –clean and spacious, and even had a kids’ pool area, making it ideal for families.

Breakfast at Thai Kitchen

Post-swim, we headed to Thai Kitchen for breakfast. The buffet had a great blend of Thai, Arabic and international cuisine, with a live egg station where I ordered five egg whites (yes, five!) with toppings for a protein-packed start. The spread included stir-fry chicken sausages, beef sausages, pancakes, waffles, vegetable soup, pomodoro pasta, aloo paratha with Indian pickles, chickpea salad, chocolate Umm Ali, foul medames, and more. Drinks included masala tea, Arabic coffee, and a variety of juices. And let’s not forget the freshly baked croissants and pastries – a perfect finish. The restaurant itself was spacious, with lovely green plants and a relaxed vibe, giving a vibrant café-like atmosphere.

Gym o’clock

With breakfast fuelling us, we hit the hotel gym (Cenfit Fitness Centre), which was seriously impressive. It had everything from assault bikes, rowing machines, spin bikes, and a curved manual treadmill, to a full range of strength training equipment – squat racks, free weights, chest fly machines, and more.

There was even a separate yoga room for those preferring a low-impact workout. We had a solid back and chest session before cooling down.

Beach time at West Bay

Only 550 metres from the hotel, we made our way to West Bay Beach. And the best part? Complimentary access, even after checkout. The beach is open until midnight, so we took a relaxing stroll along the shore, listening to the waves, soaking in the sun; and as we stayed until the evening, watching the sunset on the beach was just something else. It’s one of those views where words cannot describe the moment.

The beach also offers water sports, volleyball, a kids’ playground, and is pet-friendly, making it a great spot for families, friends, or even a solo unwind.

Final thoughts

Our staycation at Centara West Bay Hotel & Residences was everything we needed and more. From the well-appointed room and top-tier facilities to the unforgettable dinner at Dalchini, great selection of breakfast at Thai Kitchen and the relaxing and complimentary beach access – it was a wonderful city escape within a city.

Some hotels want to impress you the moment you walk in: grand lobbies, dramatic chandeliers, the whole show. Qabila Westbay Hotel takes a different route. It’s relaxed, not flashy, but still very much five-star, just with its feet on the ground.

Part of the Marriott group, Qabila is located on Corniche Road. If you live in Doha, you know the area: five minutes to the beach, five minutes to City Center Doha, and a short drive from the airport. Basically, central without being chaotic.

We checked in for a quick two-day, one-night staycation, and here is how it went.

Day One Lunch at QHub

Immediately after check in (which was a breeze, by the way), we kicked things off with a late lunch at QHub, Qabila’s sports bar-meets-shisha lounge. It’s got a casual vibe, plenty of screens if you’re into sports, and an outdoor shisha terrace that would be lovely at sunset.

We dug into fajita chicken nachos, a chargrilled burger that came stacked and juicy, a Greek salad for balance, and a couple of sharing platters – cheese and fresh fruit.

QHub keeps things lively with daily deals like Hops & Bites, bucket promos, and a dedicated Ladies Night every Thursday, perfect for unwinding with friends over good food and drinks.

Dinner in-room

Later that night, we stayed in but made it feel special. Dinner was delivered to our room, and they didn’t just leave it on a tray. The team actually set up a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows, transforming a regular night in into something quietly elegant. City lights, a hint of sea view, a quiet atmosphere, no dress code; just our own private little dinner.

We went with a cold mezze platter, a perfectly done beef tenderloin steak, spaghetti Bolognese (because comfort food is always a good idea), and a slice of classic cheesecake to finish.

Day Two Breakfast at ForKnife

The next morning, we headed down to ForKnife, the hotel’s main dining space. Breakfast was full and familiar: eggs, cereals, salads, pancakes, fruits, hot mains, live cooking stations, all the usual suspects. The space was calm, the coffee was hot, it was slow and quiet, the way mornings should be.

Rooftop pool and gym

We spent some time after breakfast checking out the rooftop pool on the 26th floor, with sweeping views of the city and the coast. It’s not a party pool, but more a delightful, peaceful lookout spot with water.

The gym, one floor down and part of the wellness area, had its own city views too. It was well-equipped and quietly motivating.

The room and service

We stayed in the Executive Suite, which was a super mix of classic and modern. Warm tones, generous space, and all the amenities you’d expect.

The best part, actually, was the service that seems to anticipate you. Every request was answered almost instantly. It’s like someone was always just outside, waiting to help but never hovering.

Special mention to Kerim, the Assistant Marketing Manager, and the team at Qabila, who didn’t just do the usual hospitality routine. They actually checked in and made sure everything ran smoothly.

Final thoughts

You know those hotels that get better the longer you stay? Qabila Westbay gives off that energy. It doesn’t try to overwhelm you with extravagance; instead, it offers comfort with intention, and luxury with subtlety.

It’s ideal for travellers who prefer calm over spectacle, and locals who just need a break without leaving the city. It’s polished, welcoming, and efficient without needing to shout about it.

With the summer is at its peak, we decided it was time for a proper break, and we knew we wanted something that ticked all the boxes: comfort, views, good food, free access to the beach and a bit of fun. That’s exactly what we got at Aleph Doha Residences, Curio Collection by Hilton –and then some.

Let me break it down how our bro-cation went.

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. We checked into a 2-bedroom suite on the 42nd floor, and let’s just say –the view was next level.

Overlooking Doha’s skyline, beaches, and high-rises, it was the kind of view that makes you stop and appreciate the moment. The suite itself was spacious, spotless, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

We kicked things off with a solid session in the 24/7 gym. It’s a great size with a wide range of equipment, from treadmills and stair steppers to weights and machines for a full-body workout. Whether you’re a guest or a long term resident, you can definitely get a proper sweat on here.

Post-workout, we chilled in the suite, caught up on some TV, and got competitive over a few rounds of UNO (standard bro-cation behaviour). Then it was time to get ready for dinner.

Dinner at IKA South American Restaurant was an absolute highlight. We had a bottle of Nederburg White Wine and went all in and sampled a variety of their signature dishes, including:

Here’s a cool fact: Aleph Doha Residences is home to the highest indoor swimming pool in Doha – on the 52nd floor! Naturally, we had to check it out. The views were unreal, and we had a great time swimming, relaxing, and unwinding in the steam room. It was the perfect way to end the night.

The next morning, we were buzzing to return to IKA for breakfast – and it didn’t disappoint. The buffet spread was impressive: freshly baked croissants, breakfast classics like hash browns, beans, sausages, and even noodles! There were cereals, chia seed pudding, mango yogurt, fresh fruit, cooked eggs, and a waffle and omelette station.

My personal favourite? The coffee station – a must for any caffeine lover. They also offered table service, so I went for a delicious avocado toast with eggs, while my mate gave in to his sweet tooth with waffles topped with chocolate, black raspberry, kiwi and strawberries.

After fuelling up, we headed to Doha Sands Beach Club, thanks to the complimentary voucher provided at reception. Even with the 43°C heat, the beach was buzzing – but there was still plenty of space and

beach beds for us to drop our bags and soak in the views of the sand, sea, and West Bay skyline.

We swam in the sea, played foosball, table tennis, and even had a go at volleyball with a beach ball (yes, really). It was a great mix of fun and relaxation.

With everything considered – the luxury suite, topnotch gym, incredible food, highest indoor pool, and access to a beach club – Aleph Doha Residences is a brilliant place to stay. Whether it’s with your best mates, your family, or even your furry friend (yes, it’s pet-friendly!), this spot has something for everyone.

ummer in Doha is in full swing, and with staycations becoming more popular, both travellers and residents are on the lookout for easy ways to unwind for a few days.

And if you’re in Qatar, you don’t need to splurge or hop on a flight to enjoy a proper break. Our recent stay at Sheraton Grand Doha proved just that. After settling in and taking in the view, we were ready to explore. First stop: the beach. After spending some time at the beach, we headed back in and stopped by the Atrium Lounge to try their signature Umm Ali. Honestly, it was the perfect afternoon treat—warm, creamy, and just the right amount of sweet. We took our time, enjoyed the quiet, and just chilled for a bit.

Later that night, we got ready for dinner at Jamavar, their Michelin-starred Indian restaurant. The vibe was calm and elegant but still felt relaxed, not too formal. The food? Rich, flavourful, and worth slowing down for.

The next morning, we headed down to Al Hubara for breakfast. The spread had a bit of everything—fresh fruit, eggs, pastries, local dishes—so whether you wanted something light or a full-on feast, you were covered. We took our time with it, no rush, just easing into the day with coffee and quiet.

After breakfast, we decided to make the most of the morning with a quick dip in the pool. It was calm, not too busy, and the perfect way to wind down before check-out.

Soon enough, it was time to pack up and head out, but we left feeling rested and reset. It wasn’t a long trip, but it really didn’t need to be.

I Always Wondered What It’d Be Like to Stay at Maysan Doha — Now I Know

I’ve been to Maysan Doha, LXR Hotels and Resorts, quite a few times — usually for lunch or dinner. The food’s always been great, the atmosphere peaceful, and every time I walked through those quiet garden paths, I’d catch myself thinking: ‘It must feel so good to actually stay here.’

So when we were invited for a staycation, I was genuinely excited. As someone who grew up close to nature, I naturally gravitate toward green spaces and places that remind me of home, and something about Maysan’s palm-lined paths, quiet courtyards, and tropical vibe really hits that sweet spot.

Check-in had a bit of a hiccup — not the smoothest start — but it was eventually resolved, and the team made sure we were looked after from there.

Our villa was tucked away, private, and peaceful. It had its own pool (major win), with a small back gate that opened straight into the main pool area — which we basically had to ourselves. The layout of the entire resort feels very intentional. You’re close to everything, but somehow it still feels like you’re hidden away. Personal concierge were also one call away.

Dinner was at LaCasa, their Mediterranean restaurant, which I already loved from previous visits — natural lighting, great flavours, and a team that knows when to step in and when to leave you alone.

The next morning, breakfast was served in the villa, floating basket and all. It’s a small touch, but it really makes you slow down and enjoy the moment.

Maysan also has a lot to offer for families — a kids’ club to keep the little ones entertained, a fitness and sports area if you’re the active type, and a spa if you’re not (I fall somewhere in between). And at night? They have a small outdoor cinema set up in the garden.

One thing that really stood out: privacy is clearly a priority here. Even when the resort is occupied, you don’t feel it. You’re not bumping into people every two minutes or hearing noise through the walls. It’s calm, personal, and spacious.

Also worth noting — the location. Maysan is right in Aspire, and literally next door is a small food park. So if you feel like stepping out for a bite or a quick walk after dark, it’s just a few steps away.

We spent most of our stay doing a whole lot of nothing, but in a good way. Slow mornings, quiet afternoons and evenings that made us forget we were still in the city.

I left feeling rested. And these days, that’s not something I say lightly.

As the summer heat starts to beat down in Qatar, finding an escape to enjoy despite the weather is a good choice during this season. Amid the scorching heat, we found ourselves unwinding at Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha, a five-star business and leisure hotel in the heart of the city.

As someone who has visited the property to experience some of their dining outlets, I was familiar with their hospitality and service, and I knew that this staycation would be something I would truly enjoy. As expected, the check-in process was quick and seamless. Their West Wing hotel lobby was filled

with people – mainly families and business travellers, all there to relax and unwind.

Shortly after the check-in process, we made our way up to the 10th floor, where our room for the night was located. The room was surprisingly spacious, with modern amenities such as remote-controlled lights and switches. The window overlooked part of their Cabana Club and the busy city of Doha. As we looked around the bedroom and bathroom, we noticed the decor. Being one of the oldest hotels in Qatar, the room’s amenities and design added a touch of luxury to our stay. While the space itself was impressive, the cosy bedroom area made us want to take a quick nap before heading out for a massage.

After taking a quick and restful nap, I headed over to their Cabana Club to enjoy a relaxing 60-minute Swedish massage. Who would say no to a massage, right?

As I settled in and prepared for the session, the skilled therapist was very accommodating and showed real enthusiasm in making my experience memorable. The soothing aroma in the massage room and the peaceful background sounds enhanced the session.

An hour later, feeling rejuvenated and relaxed, I was ready for the perfect way to end the day – a dinner at The Italian Job!

Come time for dinner, we were excited to visit The Italian Job for its unique concept. The restaurant features live singing servers that brighten up the whole atmosphere.

We couldn’t resist exploring their menu, so we began with a salad featuring berries, goat cheese, and balsamic dressing, alongside a mushroom soup. The soup quickly became a favourite, with its creamy texture and subtle mushroom flavour. For our main courses, we enjoyed the Grilled Seafood Platter, Margherita Pizza, and Spinach Ravioli.

We also had Turin Crush and Cucumber Lemonade as our beverages. Both were incredibly refreshing and complemented our meal. And what’s a great dinner without a sweet treat? We ended our amazing meal with their Tiramisu, a perfect choice for a delicious finish.

The dinner experience was superb – with the singing servers being both entertaining and attentive, and a wide selection of authentic Italian food that was truly satisfying.

The next day, we had breakfast at Hyde Park Coffee Shop. The buffet spread was simple but perfect, with all the breakfast staples available. There was also a designated corner for the little ones.

Before checking out, we took some time to explore the outdoor amenities and relaxed by the pool. The Cabana Club offers a wide range of activities to enjoy. Guests can work out at the gym, rent courts for ball games, or take a refreshing dip in the pool to beat the heat.

Although we only had the chance to enjoy two of their restaurant outlets, Radisson Blu Doha has 14 on-site restaurants featuring cuisines from around the world. The service and hospitality at the hotel were truly impressive, with the staff showing great respect and attention to every guest’s request.
