One of Houston's newest additions to its downtown skyline is taking shape at 1415 Louisiana. United Bank Plaza, at 45 stories, will display its glass and granite exterior upon completion late this summer. United Bank Plaza is actually four towers cut away at varying heights in a cloverleaf design. The parking garage occupies one tower and is 13 stories high. The low rise office tower runs through 28, a mid rise tower peaks at 37 and the high rise tower runs the entire 45 floors with the top level serving as an office penthouse and terrace. Inside, a 61-foot atrium covers five floors and features Texas limestone walls with embedded shapes of seashells and other fossils. As interior contractor, CDI is lending its expertise to the building, a project of developer Wortham & Van Liew with general contracting by W.S. Bellows. Supervisor Tommy Williamson is heading CDI’s portion of the work which includes the drywall in the core and tenant areas. Working with Tommy are finishing foreman B.J. Ward and labor foreman Raymond Pickney. “We’re about 75 percent complete with the core,” says Tommy, “and things are looking pretty good. Terry Traylor is serving as carpenter foreman over the 23 carpenters presently manning the job. “Everyone has done exceptional," claims Tommy. “We have some good hands here and it shows - both in quality and production.” On the finishing side B.J. is equally proud of his fine craftsmen who also are producing high quality F at a good rate. CDI’s field superintendent Glen Brabham shares the optimism about the job and the craftsmen. “Tommy

and his men have done an outstanding job. I really can’t say enough good things about Tommy’s performance and the men under him. From my standpoint, I couldn’t ask for a better group and think the whole job shows it." With the core work winding down,

emphasis is shifting to the lease areas where work began in June. Estimator on United Bank Plaza for CDI was Mike Holland with project management on the core being handled by Wayne Lueckemeyer. Mark Keith is project managing the lease work on the building.
