CDI crews have started construction on the Milam-Chardan Center, a 14-story office condominium project for general contractor Bartlett Cocke Jr. Construction Co. CDI is working on the the east tower located in the South Texas Medical Center area in the fast-growing northwest sector of the city. The exterior of the tower is gray reflective glass with gray panels. The office condominium is a new concept where a business actually purchases the required space in an office tower.
The design of Ashford Oaks Executive Office Tower in San Antonio allows for a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding hill country from the balcony of each of its 13 stories.

CDI’s work includes the drywall and acoustical ceilings. According to Dave Demel, who did the estimating of the project and will handle the project management, one challenging aspect will be the installation of the two-hour wall header over the exterior glass. Architect for the Milam-Chardan Center is The Benham Group of San Antonio. Paul Buck is running for the job for CDI. Excavation is currently underway on the site for the new RepublicBank Plaza in San Antonio. The RepublicBank Plaza is a planned development that will include an open-mall retail area, a 5-story office building, which will house RepublicBank's operations, a 13-story office tower and later a 30-story office tower. Phase I of the project includes the 5- and 13-story buildings which CDI will be involved in.
This is CDI’s first project for general contractor J. W. Bateson Co. in San Antonio. The company will be doing the drywall and the acoustical ceiling with stocking scheduled to commence in December. The Plaza will be in the heart of San Antonio’s historical district bounded by Houston, Travis and St. Mary’s Streets. In keeping with the history of San Antonio, the front of the 13-story building will be the actual entrance to the Texas Theater, which opened its doors in 1926. Another historical landmark, the Hertzberg Clock, is located at one corner of the site. The architects for this project are Ford, Powell & Carson of San Antonio. ‘‘The construction of the project will be complicated as there is already a functional building on the site,’’ says Roy Van Cleave, manager of CDI’s San Antonio operations. "It is a prestigious project and we are (see San Antonio, page 3)
