On® American Center
COD — ^ystStni awarded ©©ytaot fi©r yimoqy© DsryoDdoinig CDI-Austin has been named the interior contractor for the prestigious 32-story One American Center. The building is located in downtown Austin on the city block bounded by Congress Avenue, 6th and 7th Streets and Colorado Street. One American Center will be a high-rise, multi-use office building with approximately 500,000 square feet of net leasable space. Included in the complex will be retail boutiques, dining facilities, an exclusive city club with private sports facility, parking garage and office I; buildings. i The scope of CDI’s work on the project is the drywall, acoustical ceilings, paint and wall coverings and metal finishing. CDI is scheduled 1; to commence its work in June of this year. Rust Properties of Austin is the developer of the complex. Other Rust Properties projects include Norwood Tower, an Austin landmark which was renovated and completed in 1982 and The Colorado Building due for completion this spring. One of the largest contractors in the United States, Gilbane Building Company, is handling the general contracting. Morris*Aubry Architects of Houston designed this innovative structure which seems to preserve the character of Austin. One American Center was designed in a terrace-like fashion that will retain the view of the Capitol from Congress Avenue, The exterior will be finished with limestone from central Texas. Interior floors, wainscoating and trim will be of American granite with brass ^^highlighting the entryways, elevators *and offices. “It is the most prestigious building under construction in Austin," says Larry Hanvey, western division

president. “One American Center is the second largest building CDI has done in Austin. We are proud to be a part of such a project." There is a five-story atrium that will be a challenge for CDI crews. Another challenging aspect of the project is that CDI is doing the brass
finishing work which has not been undertaken by the company before. At last count, according to Larry, there are 23 miles of acoustical grid going to be used and seven miles of tenant partitions in the building. (see American, p. 8)
