Other Voices of Italy
SERIES: OTHER VOICES OF ITALY The new Rutgers University Press Series Other Voices of Italy presents texts of any genre originally written in Italian. Its principal aim is to introduce new or past authors–who have until now been marginalized–to an English-speaking readership. The series will highlight contemporary immigrant authors, as well as writers who have never been translated or who are in need of a new or contemporary translation. The series' editors also aim to raise the visibility of translation as an art form that enhances the appreciation of cultural diversity.

Queering the Seventies, A Radical Trans Memoir Porpora Marcasciano
Translated by Francesco Pascuzzi & Sandra Waters Foreword by Sara Galli & Mohammad Javad Jamali "Porpora Marcasciano says of this electrifying memoir that, if she could, she would have written it in verse to better capture the wild anarchic energy of the world that fueled her activism. No need. Her life story is poetry enough. What a gift to English speakers for her story to find us now, when we need the inspiration of as much wild anarchic energy as possible." —Susan Stryker, author of Transgender History: The Roots of Today's Revolution RUTGERS UNIVERSITY PRESS
The Round Dance A Novel Carmine Abate
Translated by Michelangelo La Luna Foreword by Francesco Altimari "Carmine Abate invites readers to experience the Italo-Albanian world and to deepen their appreciation for the uniqueness of the Arbëreshë community. Step back in time through the lively characters of this brilliantly written novel that explores themes of collective memory, myth and reality, migration, and cultural transmission." —Mithat Gashi, Albanian-American activist RUTGERS UNIVERSITY PRESS October 2023 254pp 9781978837430 £14.99 PB

When Things Happen
Oh, Serafina!
Translated by Gregory Pell Foreword by Jay Parini "From Raffaele La Capria to Fabrizia Ramondino and to Domenico Starnone, we now have Angelo Cannavacciuolo’s view of Naples from a triple perspective that includes and integrates class, identity, and the harsh reality of urban life. Boldly unmitigated, When Things Happen offers a unique and necessary version of Naples to the non-Italian reader." — Anthony Julian Tamburri, author of ReReading Italian Americana: Specificities and Generalities on Literature and Criticism RUTGERS UNIVERSITY PRESS
Translated by Gregory Conti Foreword by Matteo Gilebbi "Entertaining, profound, and timely, Giuseppe Berto’s Oh, Serafina! shows the marvels hidden in worlds that, despite their apparent marginality, teem with vitality and poetry. Perfectly attuned with the novel’s spirit and rhythm, Gregory Conti’s elegant translation prompts the rediscovery of this jewel of Italian literature."— Serenella Iovino, author of Ecocriticism and Italy: Ecology, Resistance, and Liberation RUTGERS UNIVERSITY PRESS
