STATUS PUT ON HOLD AFTER PUBLIC CONSULATION
The street name “Cairnfield” originates from the Scottish term “cairn,” which refers to stone structures used for wayfinding. Early settlers named the farm after several pyramid-shaped stone stacks erected on the property. The buildings in this project are conceptually designed as “placed structures,” reinterpreting architecture to aid navigation.

Opening up the harbour with a floating archipelago
The team at Isthmus Group has worked on plenty of other parts of Auckland - Onehungas new foreshore and the refurbishment of downtowns Freyberg Place are just two of them. Their Americas Cup village suggrestions draws on a Maori proverb “ki to kahore he whakakitenga la ngorp”, which translates as “without foresight or vision, the people will be lost”. The Isthmus team (Marcus Richardson, Neda Stanish, Scott McKerrow and Chris Combrink worked on this) want the cup to be the accessible to moe than just the wealthy boating community. They suggest a “synthetic archpelgo” inspired by the artises Christo and Jeanne Claude, that leads to a floating pavilion, creating a boat-race viewing experience accessible at all of Aucklands
