Thisissuepresentsmanyprojectsthathavebeenabletodialoguewithhistory,landscapeandnature.IntheFlorentinehills,JamesCavagnari,hasdesignedtherecovery ofa16thcenturyvillainastateofdecaybyajourneythroughtimeinsearchofthe originalessenceofthedwelling,reinterpretingitwithamixofconservationandinnovation.AtPosillipo,Nabi.InteriorDesigndesignedaflatopentothepanorama, characterisingitwithaselectionofnaturalstonesthatrecalltheatmosphereofthis marvellouslandscape.Ontheotherhand,abeautifulselectionoftropicalplantsisthe protagonistofagardenintheBahamaswhile,indifferentcontexts,thebotanicalpark ofMinoprioisstrikingfortherichnessofitscollectionsandHoratioâsGarden,Best in Show at the Chelsea Flower Show for its ability to accommodate disability and its continuousreferencestoSheffield,thecityinwhichitwillberelocatedandenlarged within anhospital. â

spectacularsunrises.Theclientalsoreliedonthetwolandscape architectstoconfirmthebestsiteforthemodernvillatoenjoythe breathtakingviewoftheOcean.Therectangularsiteconsistsofa sandduneelevatedtwenty-fivefeetabovethebeach,thickwitha naturallyoccurringbiomecalledaCoppice.Itconsistsofspecies thatcanwithstandtheoceanwindsandsaltspray,thrivinginthe limestonesoilfromwhichtheAbacosweremade.Afterdeciding toraisethegroundlevelbyanadditionalthreefeettoaddsuitable plantingsoilforthegarden,thehousewasdesignedinanL-shape withthelongestwallfacingnorthtoprovideshelterfromwinter winds. The main living areas faced east to overlook the sea. This createdseparatebutinterconnectedzoneswiththreedifferentmicroclimatescorrespondingtoanequalnumberofoutdoorrooms, according to the clientâs wishes.
InfrontofthevillafacingtheopenOcean,anIpeporchandlarge swimming pool were installed with sunbathing ledges made of locallimestone.Thisstonereflectsthesunâsraysandreducesheat exposuretothepatiosurfaces,allthewhileallowingforcontinuitybetweentheoutdoorspaces.Belowthestepslaysanexpansive beachsurroundedbynativedunevegetation,designedtobeintegratedwithintheadjacentnativelandscape.Thedesignofthe areaispurposefullynaturalandsimplistic,soasnottodistract fromthesurroundingviews.Onthesouthsideoftheproperty agardenwascreatedtobeprotectedfromthenorthernwinter winds.Thisareaincludesasecond,smallerheatedpoolusedasa largespa.Adjacenttothatisasunkenrelaxationarea,encouragingtheflowbetweenthetwospaces.Furthermore,analfresco diningareaonthesandisfrontedbythekitchen.Thegardenborderstheadjacentproperty,boundedbynativeplantstoblendinto thesiteandcreateasenseofcontinuity.Thedifferingheightsof coconut palms (Cocus nucifera) placed throughout backyard createaninterestingplayofrhythmandform.Smallcreepingshrubs add a note of green to the sand.
