SPELLING BEE Competition in Prison! THIS STORY CONTINUES ON PAGE 2
ON Friday, May 15, 2015, thousands attended the coronation of Xhosa King Zwelonke Sigcawu at Nqadu Great Place in the Eastern Cape. Sigcawu is the first Xhosa king to be crowned in 50 years. President Jacob Zuma arrived to praise the new king and deliver the keynote address.
On May 21st (Thursday), the City of Ekurhuleni and the Department of Correctional Services hosted a spelling bee competition at the Boksburg Correctional Centre. The contestants were inmates from Boksburg Correctional Service, Modder bee and Heidelberg correctional services. They were grouped according to their education levels. Programme director, Ms O.
Moganedi spread positivity to inmates throughout the event. “You attract what you transmit. The power of life and death is in the tongue,” she said. Opening the Selling Competition with prayer was Chaplain F. Manganye, who later quoted the Bible saying; “For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but the spirit of power, love and a sound mind. Quoted from 2 Timothy 1:7.”
Awards were handed over by SARC LIS: Mr Moruti Hlajoe, SARC Oversight chairperson: Cllr Dimakatso Sebiloane, Area Commissioner for Boksburg Correctional Services: Mr H. Makhubela and MMC SARC: Cllr Dora Mlambo who later quoted out to the inmates that “reading is the key to improving our vocabulary and uplifting oneself in communication.
