Dear Participant, Welcome to the 2026 Manor Invitational! We are confident you will find the course to be a fair and enjoyable test in determining this year’s champion. Practice facilities open daily at 7:00 a.m. The driving range is stocked with complimentary practice balls, and both the short game area and putting green are available for your warm-up and practice needs. Lockers are available in the Men’s Locker Room, located in the clubhouse. Please see the locker room attendant for your assignment. We encourage you to review the schedule of events. A variety of food and beverage offerings have been prepared for your enjoyment, with on-course refreshment stations available on both the Front and Back Nines each day. A Brief History of Manor Country Club
Homewood Manor House In the late 1850s, Charles Abert, a prominent lawyer in Maryland and the District of Columbia, began construction on Homewood Manor House. Built with twofoot-thick stone walls using stone quarried on the property, Homewood became the family home of Charles and his wife Constancia (a great-granddaughter of Benjamin Franklin). In 1861, the Aberts moved their family of nine into the residence, which would later serve as Manor’s first clubhouse until 1952.
The Golf Course In 1921, the Foreston Manor Club purchased Homewood with the vision of creating a country club to serve the eastern part of Montgomery County. Recognizing the property’s potential, the club engaged world-renowned architect William Flynn to design a 27-hole golf course. The Championship Course opened for play in 1926 and remained a fixture of the club until 2004, when Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates were contracted to renovate the layout. Their work provided Manor Country Club with one of the premier Championship Courses in the Washington, D.C. area.
Championship History Over the decades, Manor Country Club has proudly hosted numerous major events at both the national and local levels. Most notably, the club welcomed its first USGA Championship in 1957, where Larry Beck defeated Jack Nicklaus in the third round en route to capturing the U.S. Junior Amateur title. The 1959 U.S. Girls’ Junior Amateur was also contested at Manor, with Judy Rand emerging as champion. The U.S. Junior Amateur returned in 1971, when Curtis Strange was medalist in Match Play Qualifying.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT
Format Four Ball Match Play within each Flight. Each team plays a round robin of five, nine hole matches. Flights 10 Flights are comprised of six teams each. Teams are flighted by players combined individual handicap total. Scoring 10 points are available per match- teams will receive one point for a hole won and ½ point for a hole halved. One additional point will be awarded to the winning team. If a match is halved, then each team will receive an additional ½ point. A maximum of seven points will be awarded in any match where the losing team has only one player or defaults. Handicapping Players will receive 90 % of handicap. In each match, the player with the lowest playing handicap will play at scratch, and each of the three other players will receive the difference. With a max of 1 stroke per hole. Players are playing off of the average of their September 7th revision and low 12- month index. Tees Carrolton Rd. (1st Flight) – Black/Gold Blended Tees Great Oak Rd. - Crossway Rd. (2nd - 5th Flights) - Gold Tees Beverly Rd. - Holly Rd. (6th - 7th Flights)- Gold/Blue Blended Tees Option to move forward to the BLUE Tee if Age + Event Handicap Index are equal to or greater than 75 Montpelier Rd. - Westbury Rd. (8th - 9th Flights) - Blue Tees Bretton Rd. (10th Flight) – Blue/Green Blended Tees Option to move forward to the GREEN Tee if Age + Event Handicap Index are equal to or greater than 90 Prizes The Tournament Champions will be the team who wins the shootout. Prizes will be awarded to the tournament winners as well as each flights winners. Tournament Gift As part of this year's event, we are proud to partner with Titleist to provide each participant with a personalized LinksLegend golf bag, custom-designed to your preferences and waiting for you upon your arrival at the Invitational. Slow Play Teams are expected to maintain the appropriate pace of play and stay in position with the match ahead. For the format to move along smoothly teams should finish each match within two hours and 15 minutes. Thank you for your cooperation. Lightning Manor is equipped with an automatic lightning detection system. In the event that there is lightning within 7 mile radius of the club play will be suspended immediately by one long blast. Players should mark their ball and leave the course. The Professional Staff will assist in bringing player off the course. Three short blast will indicate play may resume.
Shootout The winning team from each flight will qualify for the Championship Shootout. Flight winners will be determined as follows: The team with the highest point total will be named the winner. If two teams are tied, the result of the match between the two tied teams will determine the winner. Total points won in match four and five. The team with the most points in match five. Sudden-Death Shootout Format Each winning team will compete in a 1-hole “Shootout” from the 18th fairway. The 18th hole will be a Par 3 with three (3) different sets of tee boxes. Each tee box will correspond to a particular range of handicaps and each team member will tee off from their respective tee box,regardless of where their teammate tees off from. Each team member will then play their OWN ball all the way into the hole. There will be NO handicap strokes allocated during the playoff. Flight Winner Round (10 Teams) Flights 1-5 will tee off first, play out the hole and then wait for flights 6-10 to tee off and play out the hole. Once all 10 teams have finished the hole, each team’s cumulative score will be tallied up and the teams with the THREE lowest cumulative scores will move on to the Championship Round. In the event of a tie for the top 3 teams, a sudden death (chip-off) will determine who moves on to the next round. Championship Round (3 Teams) The final 3 teams will play the 18th hole over again to determine the Overall Champion. Each teams score from the 1st round will CARRY OVER to the championship round. The team with the lowest 2-round cumulative score will be crowned The Manor Invitational Champion. In the event of a tie for 1st place only, the teams will go back and play the hole one more time at a predetermined tee box and play alternate shot until the ball is holed out. If a tie still exists, the teams will go back and SWITCH the order in which they just played alternate shot and play until the ball is holed out.
TOURNAMENT RULES UNREASONABLE DEALY/PROMPT PACE OF PLAY: (RULE 5.6) The rules of golf require that players shall play at all times without “undue delay” and maintain their proper position on the course. Ideally, Players should make an effort to play their stroke within 30 seconds of reaching their ball and complete their round within the allotted time of play which is 4 hours. SUSPENSION AND RESUMING PLAY (5.7): If a dangerous weather conditions occurs and play must be suspended all players should mark their balls and stop play at once. Players may not make another stroke until the committee resumes play (USGA Penalty: Disqualification) All suspension of play for a dangerous situation will be signaled by one long note of the siren. Play will resume with three consecutive notes of the siren. Note: All practice areas are closed during an immediate suspension for a dangerous situation until the committee has declared them open. PRACTICE PUTTING GREEN/ 18TH GREEN The 18th green and practice putting green are considered one green. Play the ball as it lies. SHORT GAME AREA Should a player hit his/her ball in the short game area while playing any hole on the golf course, the player must play the shot as it lies. Exception: if a player hits a shot on to the either of the greens surfaces, player must take relief up to one club length from the nearest point of relief not on the green surface. EMBEDDED BALL (RULE 16.3) A ball that is embedded in its own pitch mark may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped as nearly as possible but not nearer the hole. In taking relief, the player drops within one club length of the spot behind where the ball was embedded. OBSTRUCTIONS (RULE 16.1, MODEL LOCAL RULE E-8 & MODEL LOCAL RULE F-23) The player may take relief under rule 16.1b if an immovable obstruction if it interferes with the players stance and or swing but does not include ball flight on the line of play unless stated: 1. This includes all sprinkler heads, drains course signage, electrical boxes, irrigation boxers and sign post. 2. All roadway and paths. The wood chip service roads / paths between #5 & #7 . 3. The player is entitled to and may take relief from the the hitting bays (Relief must be taken at nearest point) and this includes ball flight on the line of play. 4. Temporary Immovable Obstructions (TIO) - Interference from greenside turf fans when present. Relief may be taken and may include ball flight on the line of play. PENALTY AREAS (RULE 17) A ball is in the penalty area when any part of the ball touches the “course side” edge of the penalty area. When within a penalty area the player may play the ball as it lines or take relief under 17.1d Optional Drop Zone Hole #11: As an additional option under rule 17.1, a player may use the designated drop area. The drop zone is defined by the outside edges of the teeing area.
OUT OF BOUNDS (RULE 18.2) Definition: A ball at rest is out of bound only when all of it lies outside the boundary. The boundary line extends upward. Out of Bounds is marked by White stakes and boundary fences. The split rail fencing is defined as out of bounds (Holes #4, #11 & #15) GROUND UNDER REPAIR / ABNORMAL GROUND CONDIDTION (RULE 16-1B) Any area marked with white paint, ropes or signage: the player may lift the ball, clean and drop it without penalty within one club length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief. French Drain on Hole #1 will be treated as Ground Under Repair. RESOLVING RULES ISSUES DURING ROUND (20.1) Players must not unreasonably delay play when seeking help with the rules during a round. If a referee or the committee is not available in a reasonable time to help with a rules issue, the player must decide what to do and play on. The player may protect his or her rights by asking for a ruling in match play (See Rule 20.1b(2)) or by playing two balls in stroke play (See rule 20.1c(3))
