DNA Transcription

Overview & RNA Polymerases

Transcription is the synthesis of RNA from a DNA template by RNA polymerase. Direction: always 5′→3′ on the new RNA strand, reading the template strand 3′→5′. No primer required. Three types in eukaryotes (Pol I, II, III), one in prokaryotes (+ σ factor).
