Editor’s Note Hello September Iam a bit stuck, waiting to move into my beautiful penthouse apartment in L1. Solicitors aren’t the hold up, frustratingly the management company is as they haven’t responded to enquiries for a month now, they forget it's someone's life on hold but not just me, my entire family as we're homeless in Liverpool. But as they say the show must go on and Liverpool is thriving with arts and culture, so many productions this month and I can't wait to be in the thick of it when I eventually get back to the Pool! Mentally I am in full autumn swing though and looking forward to decorating, I am thinking auburn cosiness and there’s some great ideas with interior designer Sophie Allport. Cashmere is the colour of the season, apparantly. I was delighted to chat to Bunzai owners, who are up for a Liverpool Lifestyle Award. Their fusion burgers look incredible and it will be the first place I visit when I am back. Who are you? We are three friends, Tommy Lee, Henry Chiu and Andy Rong.We have been friends for many years, known through Liverpool’s Chinese Community. Heny and Andy have worked closely together for many years with North Garden (China Town) and North Garden Blackstock. What inspired you to open in Liverpool? Liverpool is our home. We wanted to create something new and we wanted our first site to be in the heart of What’s the story behind Liverpool, our home. We have been talking about this for the name Bunzai? about 2 years. The opportunity opened “Bao Zai” is Chinese for itself up when there was a plot that we little buns. Our whole liked in Chinatown. How do you stand out from other restaurants in L1? What we serve on our menu is something that Liverpool has never seen. Everyone can expect something that is a bit of a paradox. You are getting something you know and love, combined with something that everyone is familiar with.
Thirty years of recipes passed down from one generation to another applied to burgers, fried chicken and loaded fries in another amazing friendly environment. A wonderfully loved Liverpool Made Chinese restaurant coming to see if that love and passion over 30 years can give you something new and exciting. Held back by how things should and should not be, we at Bunzai want to bring something that, fusing two styles of cuisine to create a fun and dynamic environment. On the surface it’s a Chinese inspired Burger and Fried Chicken Restaurant, but the recipes have been loved and cherished by many scousers and tourists alike for over 3 decades. What’s your favourite thing on the menu? Honestly we love everything.Each item has been carefully thought and tested..
Our best selling burger is the “Peking Quack”. Seasoned double smash beef patties, topped with crispy hoisin duck and shredded cucumber and spring onion on a glazed brioche bun. We also have things like: Scouse Burger – salt and pepper fried chicken burger topped with salt and pepper fries and drizzled with curry sauce, on a glazed brioche bun. Tiger King – King Do glazed buttermilk chicken burger, gem lettuce topped with Asian slaw, garlic mayo and a drizzle of chilli oil, on a glazed brioche bun. Maple Mayhem – Double smash beef patties, maple BBQ sauce, turkey bacon, cheese, crispy onions, gem lettuce and tomato on a glazed brioche bun. If you don’t fancy a burger, we also do loaded fries and Chinese dishes. From the classics: sweet and sour chicken, crispy chilli chicken to Irish spice bags to salt and pepper chicken and fries, topped with mozzarella cheese mix, drizzled in curry. WHEN DO WE STOP WORKING SO HARD? Someone prompted me online yesterday with one of those questions: “What are you working on right now?” I like engaging online as I think it is good for visibility, good for business and good for staying connected to people. So I replied honestly that I usually take August off every year but this year I have been crazy busier than ever and haven’t been able to stick to my usual routine. Since becoming self-employed in 2008 there has rarely been a moment when I haven’t had something on the go. A project, a magazine feature, an event, a press trip a PR client, an idea or another hair-brain scheme that fills my time. And yesterday's prompt got me thinking, when am I actually going to stop? And possibly more importantly, when am I going to stop feeling as though I have to justify doing something nice for myself? For years I’ve been the sort of person who needed something booked in the diary. Before I moved to Cyprus I always needed flights booked somewhere so I had a goal to look forward to. It was my reward for something that made all the hard work feel worthwhile. In November, I’m going on a huge bucket-list holiday that’s breaking my fuck-it budget and naturally,
Tell me it’s not just me that feels like we have to legitimise and earn every bit of enjoyment? Why can't we simply say I want to do this so I’m going to. That's it. I’m currently in the middle of downsizing my life and it’s making me look at everything in a new way. Possessions and priorities have seen a big shift. Material things just don't matter to me anymore. I want experiences and not another outfit to cram in my wardrobe. There is also another thought that keeps coming back to me. I have lived more years on this planet than I have left so the question I don’t want to be asked isn't how much more can I achieve but how do I actually want to spend the years I have left? There is so much more to life than work. There will always another deadline, another email and another reason to keep hustling if that is what you’re looking for. But at what point does ambition become obsession? When do we realise that working harder isn't necessarily the same as living better? I don't think I have the answer yet but I am fortunate enough to be able to slow down but I don’t want to. I have at least 20 years of agility left so I am not shuffling off to the garden centre yet. I genuinely don't think I'll ever become someone who happily sits around doing nothing.
The trip in November isn't a reward for working myself into the ground, it’s just me enjoying this stage of my life. Why not? Life isn't a business plan and there's no appraisal at the end of the year. I don’t need to earn my life, I’m already living it and I am fortunate to have created a fabulous dual lifestyle to enjoy the benefits of both Cyprus and Liverpool. I have spent half a century fighting, hustling, defending, building and proving myself. So what am I working on right now? I won't bore you with the fashion show, the Lifestyle Awards, the magazine deadlines and the new clients signed this month. I'll tell you instead that I am working on my peace and not feeling guilty.

Unique forecasting released in August 2026 by The Coders Guild predict that the UK's NEET rate could return to post-financial crisis levels without urgent action. Britain could be on course for more than 1.25 million young people being outside education, employment or training (NEET) by 2030, according to new prediction-based data. The research projects the UK's NEET rate could rise from 13.5% in early 2026 to around 16% by 2030, leaving between 1.2 million and 1.3 million young people aged 16 to 24 outside education, employment or training if current trends continue. The UK's NEET rate has risen steadily since 2021 and is now at its highest level for more than a decade. At the same time, the Government's independent Young People and Work review has warned the national rate could exceed 16% within five years if existing trends persist. The Coders Guild's modelling independently reaches a similar conclusion, strengthening the evidence that Britain is heading towards a significant youth employment challenge unless action is taken.
350 Dogs Are Rehomed But Just 15 Are Greyhounds: Merseyside charity challenges myths about It's often believed that Greyhounds can't live with cats but, like every dog, its most overlooked breed Greyhounds are currently the most common breed waiting for homes at Dogs Trust Merseyside. There are currently six Greyhounds waiting for homes at the Liverpool centre - more than any other breed. This year, 350 dogs went off to their forever homes, but only 15 of them were Greyhounds. This situation has prompted the charity to ask why these famously gentle dogs are being overlooked and to challenge some of the misconceptions that staff believe can put potential adopters off the breed, including that Greyhounds need huge amounts of exercise or could never share a home with smaller animals. In reality, many Greyhounds are famous for being serious sofa-lovers
Greyhounds are assessed on an individual basis to determine whether they can live with other furry friends. Some greyhounds can happily live alongside cats, so it should never be assumed that they can’t. Georgina Lowery, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Merseyside, said:“Many retired racing Greyhounds find themselves in rehoming centres like ours, but contrary to what people tend to think just because they are fast dogs doesn't mean they need huge amount of exercise. Many Greyhounds are total couch potatoes. “We find that larger dogs can take longer to find new homes than small or mediumsized dogs. This may partly be due to misconceptions about the amount of space, exercise and care a larger dog requires.

I do wish I was able to do my hair and makeup better, I have the greatest respect and awe for makeup and hair artists. The disciplines you need to be a fashion model are being on time. I always make sure I am a bit early as a sign of respect. I also make sure to be kind and courteous to other models attending casting as well as the designers and those hosting the event. Showing respect and kindness will take you a long way.

ONE THING PEOPLE WILL BE SURPRISED BY: I'm an internal medicine doctor. I work really long shifts and nights in the hospital. I am dedicated to medicine and treating my patients, however it can become a bit heavy to deal with mentally so modeling is a great outlet for fun and artistic expression.
