UK Hatzola Conference 2018 The first National UK Hatzola Conference took place in London last Sunday. The full day programme took place in the Hasmonean High School for Girls hall and was the climax of much preparation. The Conference brought together for the first time Hatzola personnel from North London Stamford Hill Hatzola, North West Golders Green Hatzola, Edgware Hatzola, Manchester Hatzola, & Gateshead Hatzola. In addition, delegations from

abroad attended including Antwerp Hatzola, Zurich Hatzola and Johannesburg Hatzola making the whole event an international gathering with more than a hundred delegates.

The whole schedule was very ably chaired by Mr Chuni Kahan, who welcomed all the guests to the first UK Hatzola Conference and outlined the agenda. Then he introduced the Keynote Speaker, Rabbi Dr Akiva Tatz. Rabbi Tatz is a popular speaker who is in much demand. He was an ideal choice for the Conference as he also has an extensive medical background. He held his audience captivated with a presentation of practical halachah issues involving the temporary preservation of life. The next five hours were devoted to medical lectures given by a series of experts who were all specialists in their own field. All the distinguished lecturers have been closely associated with Hatzola and included Dr Asher Lewinsohn, anaesthetist

The theme of unity between all the independent Hatzola groups began in the planning stages of the Conference. The original idea was formed through the vision of six individual members, at least one from each Hatzola group. However, the plan was fully endorsed by all the Hatzola committees. The atmosphere of achdus was evident throughout the day. The full day programme opened early with Registration at 9.30 am Participants arriving at the hall had an opportunity to fraternise with other Hatzola groups, before proceeding to the lecture hall.

The topics ranged from Paediatric Cardiac Arrests and the practical dissection on the stage of an animal heart to the Treatment of Burns and Spinal Immobilisation. In conclusion, the Chairman thanked everyone who had been involved in the planning and implementation of the most successful Conference. All the delegates returned to their home towns feeling inspired and strengthened to continue with their avodas hakodesh. The organisers have already received much feedback from the committees praising the whole event and looking forward to reaping the benefits of the Conference.
