When we put out a call for emergency support to get us through the Covid-19 crisis, the Manchester Jewish Community opened its heart without hesitation. You enabled us to be there for the 1 in 8 households which benefit from our services during these dire times. The Fed is immensely grateful for the overwhelming generosity which helped us save lives, both at Heathlands Village and in the community.

But. Although the peak of the pandemic has passed, for too many people in our community, the personal crisis continues: ■

children are being groomed with alcohol

■

teenagers are self-harming or involved in drug abuse

■

parents are struggling to manage a child’s violent behaviour

■

people need rehousing due to a partner’s abusive behaviour

■

families are struggling to manage the care of a child with complex learning difficulties

■

families are living in poverty and unable to afford food and other basics

The Fed’s dedicated, professional community teams are supporting, guiding and advising people living in dreadful circumstances - helping to give them safe, healthy, positive futures. The virus has, for now, receded but we are still having to save lives. So, forgive us for having to turn to you again - to ask you to support our Rosh Hashanah Appeal.

Important Letter from Bury Council about Coronavirus Dear Resident We know what a challenging time the last 6 months have been for residents and appreciate the efforts people have made to adhere to social distancing rules. Unfortunately, Bury is still under strict restrictions and we as a Council fully understand how difficult this will make the upcoming Jewish High Holy days of Rosh Hashonah, Yom Kippur and the festival of Succos. As things stand now the guidelines are:

Families must not meet with different households in private homes, in private gardens or in indoor public venues.

•

From Monday 14 September families must not mix in groups of more than six anywhere (except if part of the same family or support bubble).

•

Face coverings must be worn in all shops and synagogues unless a person has a medical need exemption.

•

When attending any public space or venue, you should stay at least 2 metres away from people you do not live with. Where you cannot stay 2 metres apart you should stay more than 1 metre apart, as well as taking extra steps to stay safe, eg by wearing a face covering, making sure rooms are well ventilated by keeping windows and doors open, or by moving outdoors where it is safer and there is more space.

Although we know the restrictions are difficult to maintain, they are in place for your benefit. We have listened to feedback from local residents and are aware of the need for clear and accurate updates.
