a focus on members Thank You for Your Investment In next month's Current magazine we will share highlights from our time in Tallahassee representing the voice of our business community on issues that our state elected officials can influence in the upcoming legislative session. Your membership investment directly supports this important priority. Multiple Chamber committees have been hard at work in order to make recommendations to the Chamber's Board for our 2026 State and Federal advocacy agenda. At its final meeting of the year, our Board also reaffirmed a set of Leadership Initiatives that help guide the Chamber's work. These priority areas are:

Our comprehensive program of work is designed to support our mission: to build a positive business environment while enhancing our community’s quality of life. We often say we are running two organizations simultaneously – one that delivers high quality, effective connections and business development opportunities and one that convenes leaders to tackle important business and community issues. We embrace our well-earned reputation of being “World Class Connectors” for our members. Thank you for your membership investment! We look forward to working with you in 2026 and beyond.

Annual Past Chair Breakfast Honors Legacy of Business Leadership Past Chairs of the Chamber gathered for an annual breakfast to renew connections, share highlights that span fifty years of Chamber work, and talk about issues impacting our community today. Twenty-one past Chairs, and our current Chair and Chair-Elect, spent two hours discussing challenges, opportunities, and accomplishments that speak to the importance and influence of our mission. The topics discussed were a reminder that every member's decision to invest matters. Your support adds to a legacy of leadership that started in 1889 with the founding of our organization. Here's to the new year ahead!

on the cover Listening First, Creating Space, Strengthening Connections

A Message from Our 2025 Chair of the Board Stu Henderson, Fawley Bryant Architecture From favorite Chamber programs to key accomplishments and advice for members looking to engage, Stu Henderson's reflections offer important reminders about community, culture, and compassionate service. The focus of the Chamber is to support our members' success. Stu's time as Chair of the Board has been marked by deep respect for others and enthusiastic encouragement to help everyone's talents shine. What is your favorite Chamber event of the year?: The Annual Leadership Retreat - it is the one time each year we pull out of the day-to-day and spend real time thinking about the future of this community. You can feel the energy shift when people get in a room with the sole purpose of making Manatee County better. What is your favorite Chamber program?: Leadership Manatee the ripple effect the program has on emerging leaders is remarkable. Every year, it produces people who go on to do meaningful work in our community.

“

Why have you chosen to give so much of your time and talent to the Chamber?: 15 years ago, this community gave me a second chance at life and career. Investing my time here is a way of honoring that. And when you believe in the work, the hours don’t feel like a burden.

If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.

”

What quote is meaningful to you when you think about the Chamber's impact?: “If we did all the things we are capable of, we would literally astound ourselves.” - Thomas Edison This resonates with me because it captures the spirit of the Chamber. When people come together, share their strengths, and push toward a common good, the impact is far greater than any one of us could imagine on our own.

How has involvement in the Chamber - Thomas Edison impacted your view/understanding of our community?: It has shown me how many people care deeply about Is there a highlight from your year as Chair that stands out?: this place and are willing to roll up their sleeves. You see the big Meeting the past Chairs of the Board for breakfast was a standout wins, but you also see the quiet daily work, the part that most moment. Hearing their stories and listening to them reflect on people never notice, and that has made me appreciate this their time as Chair reminded me just how strong this Chamber is community on a different level. and has always been. Sharing memories of the Manatee County What advice do you have for a new Chamber member on how to jumpstart their membership?: Show up. That’s the whole formula. Go to one event, meet one person, make one connection. Momentum builds quickly once you start showing your face.

business community with leaders like Dick Turner, who served in 1978, and with the remarkable women and men who guided the Board over the years was an absolute highlight for me. continued on next page

Board Chair Stu Henderson embodies a “work hard, play hard” approach to leadership - like enjoying time with members at the annual Manatee Chamber Day at LECOM Park during Spring Training or collaborating with his leadership team at Fawley Bryant. Throughout his Board tenure, Stu has remained focused on developing strong leaders and deepening connections between the Chamber, our members, and the broader business community. What special thanks would you like to share?: First, to my wife Tia for her loving and steady support. To my Fawley Bryant Team, I could not have done any of this without you! To the entire Chamber staff team, thank you for making this role not just meaningful but enjoyable. To the Executive Committee, thank you for your insight and trust. To the Board of Directors, your kindness and encouragement have meant more than you know. To Janelle VanHoose, thank you for the wisdom and steady hand you brought into this seat as 2024 Chair. And to Justin Phillips, I appreciate your thoughtful leadership as we move into 2026. It has been an honor to serve alongside all of you. What book recommendations have shaped your leadership style or team development principles?: I have several that have been especially impactful. "The Ideal Team Player" by Patrick Lencioni is foundational and has reshaped how we build and evaluate our team. "Unreasonable Hospitality" by Will Guidara has influenced how we think about experience and service and "Traction" by Gino Wickman reinforces the discipline behind execution. All three of these books make the same point in different ways: clarity and culture are not “extra” - they are the work. How has your commitment to building a strong internal team culture influenced your leadership as Chair?: My commitment to building strong team culture shaped how I approached this role. The Chamber isn’t just one team, it is many - there’s the staff, the Executive Committee, the full Board of Directors, and the broader community we serve. Jacki and I worked closely throughout the year, and that partnership made it easier to keep everyone aligned and moving in the same direction. I tried to lead by listening first, creating space for people to contribute in their own way, and strengthening the connections between all of us. When those connections are strong, the Chamber becomes more than an organization - it becomes a place where good people do good work for a place they care about. What encouragement would you give Chamber members as they plan for a new year with their own teams?: Invest the time. Culture does not build itself, and it does not survive on autopilot. Be intentional, be consistent, and do not underestimate the power of small daily habits. They shape everything.

Stu Henderson began his tenure as Board Chair at the Manatee Chamber Annual Dinner, receiving the gavel from outgoing Chair Janelle VanHoose (top), and supported Chamber and MYP initiatives throughout the year (MYP Coffee & Conversation shown above).

On the Cover This month’s Current magazine cover features was photographed at the Manatee Chamber’s Bradenton Office, which was designed by Fawley Bryant Architecture. The shoot highlights both leadership and "place", capturing a space that reflects our Chamber’s vision and is a catalyst for our members to connect and make a difference. Special thanks to Dream Wave Media for their expert photography.

OCTOBER

business after hours Town Square University Parkway was thrilled to host Manatee Chamber’s October Business After Hours event in our Adult Day Enrichment and Senior Center! Our 1950s–60s themed environment, built around the principles of reminiscence therapy, created the perfect backdrop for professionals across all industries to connect, network, and share stories that sparked nostalgia and laughter. It was a true pleasure welcoming so many members of our business community and sharing a glimpse into how Town Square supports seniors living with cognitive or physical challenges – while giving caregivers the respite and peace of mind they deserve. Our program is also free for most veterans, ensuring that those who served have access to the care and connection they deserve. Beyond our day program, Town Square offers free monthly support groups, educational classes, and community events – all designed to bring people together and support families on their journey of aging and care-giving. These events are free and open to the public, as we continue building a community that connects, uplifts, and grows together. We’re also excited to announce that Town Square will host Manatee Chamber’s 2026 September Business After Hours on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. We look forward to hosting again and continuing to build a community that brings people together! Member Appreciation Cookout Celebrates the Heart of Our Chamber − Our Members! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Member Appreciation Cookout at the Chamber's Lakewood Ranch office. John Rice and his grill team served up delicious hot dogs and brats, donated by the Pittsburgh Pirates, and gave away a brand new Weber Q1200 Portable Grill! We shared a lot of laughs and enjoyed spending our Friday afternoon with so many friends. This was a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation for your investment in the Manatee Chamber and your continued support of our mission.
