ANZAC Day 2023 returned to normal after the previous three years were disrupted through Covid, and was commemorated in Rolleston with a parade from the Community Centre to the Memorial Clock Tower. It was encouraging to see the number of people from our community who participated in the march, including Veterans and RSA members, serving personnel, emergency services, scouts and guides, as well as the general public. The service at the Clock Tower was also well attended, with estimates of over 2,000 attendees!

The event was well organised by the Rolleston Residents’ Association, supported by the new Rolleston RSA. The Selwyn Community Choir and Rolleston Brass played key roles in the parade and service, with a contingent of Rolleston Brass leading the parade down Rolleston Drive, under the able command of Parade Marshall Brian Eckersley. Jeff Bland once again did a great job as MC for the service and introduced the guest speakers, including Selwyn MP Nicola Grigg and Rolleston Residents’ Association Chair, Moneel Pratap.

ISSUE 209 Wednesday 3rd May 2023

Many thanks to Rolleston College for the dissertation at the service and for producing the professional wreaths that were laid by the RSA at both the Burnham Dawn service and the Rolleston service. Another first was that the new RSA hosted the community at the rugby

clubrooms after the service. It was most enlightening to see so many community members attend the get together - this is an integral part in the support of veterans by their own community. Rich Hurt, on behalf of Rolleston RSA.
