An exciting new initiative has just been launched and is about hit Selwyn by storm. Passmebuy is the brainchild of Weedons local Alex McGrath and the website has just gone live. The idea of Passmebuy came about when Alex thought it would be handy if there was one source that offered information and locations of roadside stalls, mobile shops, coffee vans, etc., that was easy to access. “Running a horse poo stall myself over the years, and while it’s always been steady, I have friends who sell so much more because they’re on busier roads,” Alex says. She asked herself how she could make her stall as ‘visible’ as the ones on busy roads? Her answer was to create a map. Alex says, “Being able to shop for local produce and goods is great for the health of our communities, the health of our bank balance and that of the person we buy from, and the planet by supporting shorter supply chains.” However, busy lives can often throw up barriers to committing to shopping locally. And that’s where Passmebuy comes in. “If we had information at our fingertips about where local goods and produce are available, it would be easier to shop from them more often!” Plans are in place for an app

to make it even easier to locate local goods and produce. In the meantime, Alex is focussing on building up the numbers of locations on the map and has offered people with roadside stalls to list their stall free of charge until November 20 (thereafter it will be $2 a week). “It is absolutely critical to its success for buyers and sellers, that the map is busy and bustling.” For more information, visit: www.passmebuy.co.nz/en.
