RECOGNITION AT NATIONAL SPORTING AWARDS Darfield’s Toby Doyle has been recognised on the national stage, earning a co-winner title in the Susie Simcock Future Leaders’ Scholarship at the 2026 New Zealand Sport and Recreation Awards in Auckland last week. Held at the New Zealand International Convention Centre, the awards celebrate outstanding contributions across New Zealand’s play, active recreation, and sport sector. Sport NZ Group Chief Executive Raelene Castle praised this year’s winners for their dedication to improving the wellbeing of communities through sport and recreation.
Toby, New Zealand Cricket’s Community Cricket National Coach Development Manager and Regional Coach Development Manager for the South Island, was recognised for his leadership in supporting and developing the country’s coaching workforce. He leads
initiatives that strengthen the capability, confidence and connection of more than 3,000 coaches and coach developers nationwide. Reflecting on the moment he found out he had won, Toby says he felt “a mix of surprise, excitement and real gratitude”.
“There are so many passionate people doing outstanding work across the community sport sector, so it’s hard to take individual credit when so much of what we achieve is built on collaboration,” he says.
