YOUNG ARTIST FOLLOWS HIS PASSION Local Darfield lad Tamai Lloyd (16) loves art and is bringing his talent to market. With the support of his sister and caregiver, Hannah, he aims to sell his digitally created and freehand artworks online through his new website, tamaisworld.com. Tamai is autistic and has been drawing since he was a toddler. Back then, he drew power lines and number blocks, and while he still likes to draw freehand, he also enjoys using an IPad, adding textures and shading/shadows to his creations. He enjoys a variety of subjects and will happily take commissions, but says he particularly loves to draw Five Nights at Freddy. “They’re scary and cool.” Tamai’s style is also sometimes influenced by The Amazing
Digital Circus, Mickey Mouse and Wot Wots. He currently has three pieces on display at Darfield’s Te Huanui Art Gallery. “My snow man represents snow in New Zealand, my hand-drawn one is inspired by analog horror, and diegetic paintings inspire the other,” says Tamai. Last year, Tamai took part in the IHC awards and sold a piece of his artwork. “This year, we created my website, and in August, I am going to have a stall at the Next Steps Expo in Christchurch, where my family and I will be selling my work, and I will be taking requests for drawings.”
