THE HIGH COUNTRY IS CALLING Bookings are now open for the first season of an exciting new multi-day adventure at RockRidge in Windwhistle. Part hike, part immersive retreat, RockRidge transcends the typical walk-and-hut itinerary with a fully curated experience, including worldclass food, outstanding accommodation, and authentic high-country hospitality. One of New Zealand’s most unforgettable new walks, RockRidge boasts uninterrupted vistas over the Canterbury plains, across its braided riverbeds, and skywards to the peaks of the Southern Alps. Its untamed beauty is just waiting to be explored. The stunning track is opening to the public for the very first time thanks to two local families. The Harpers from Quartz Hill Station, and the McElreas from Washpen Falls. This duo has painstakingly carved out the purpose-built RockRidge track through two high-country farms, where adventurers will soon be able to enjoy breathtaking views and stimulating terrains in intimate groups of up to 10 visitors at a time. RockRidge’s 31km track unfolds over two days and 1,750m of elevation, showcasing natural bush lines, rock formations, rolling hills, and steep topography. With a

gentle gradient, as well as some challenging sections, it is recommended for visitors with a moderate level of hiking fitness. Those seeking a bit more adventure will be able to make use of shortcuts and track extras to maximise their hiking experience. The RockRidge retreat includes beautiful authentic accommodation with highquality linen, and a high-end country living experience. The all-inclusive meals feature farm-to-table cuisine, local produce, and thoughtful wine pairings. Guests are encouraged to revel in the companionship of the high country, with the opportunity to learn about rural life and swap stories under the stars. “Our hope is simple: to share the essence of the high country,” say Henry and Megan McElrea. “It’s wild and raw, with a rugged beauty that stands apart. Both the McElreas and the

Harpers blend their business practices with a deep respect for conservation. They share a commitment to sustaining and enriching the land for generations to come; the RockRidge hiking and retreat experience is a progression of these shared values. Guests at RockRidge will enjoy a truly immersive, all-inclusive adventure that showcases working farm life, engages them with the land, and allows them to soak up everything the little-explored Windwhistle area has to offer. “It’s taken sweat, tears, and a whole lot of heart, but it feels like we have found something special,” say Dan and Georgie Harper. “We

have always believed the high country is something to be felt, not just admired from a distance. With every detail taken care of, RockRidge offers the perfect balance of retreat and adventure. Its limited first season is now open for bookings between February and May 2026. Secure your spot today at: https://www.rockridge.nz/.
