NATIONAL MEDALS AWARDED The National Schools Aerobics Championships was held at the Queenstown Event Centre recently and attracted over 250 school age competitors from across the country. With National titles up for grabs, athletes and dancers represented their schools in a range of individual and team categories over two days of intense competition. Freya Tymons-Bell and Pippa Dalley won the Primary Division 5 category – the girls were coached by Darfield High School student, Rubie Leech (14). Rubie’s mum, Kylie Leech, says, “I know Rubie has enjoyed coaching these two immensely. Every training has
been great fun with them and their progress has been huge. It’s also been awesome to see Rubie’s confidence grow so much, and her leadership skills develop to the point where she was able to get the girls to this amazing result.” The trio from Darfield Primary School, Lexi Perrin, Danica Harris and Hannah Grenfell, were also on a winning streak coming away from the weekend with third place in the same category. Coaches Kylie Leech and Kylie Perrin are highly proud of the girls. “It took a huge commitment, taking up lunchtimes and a lot of determination and dedication to get to these fabulous results,” says Kylie Leech. Rubie and Charlotte Rhodes took out third place in the Pairs routines. Rubie’s Fisaf Fitness team, which is a mix of girls from her club Octane Aerobics and athletes from Soul DnA - Dance and Aerobics, dug deep, looked for a way to improve their routine from the first day and performed their hearts out, resulting in a third place medal. “These girls were determined to get a medal, and they did it!’ says Kylie.
