OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS
Darfield and Canterbury cricketer, Zak Foulkes (21) received the call as a late addition for the Black Caps T20 squad to play in Pakistan. Zak caught the eye of the Black Cap selectors with impressive bowling figures for Canterbury in domestic competitions. At the recent Canterbury Cricket awards for the 2023/24 season, Zak received the Male Players Player of the Year as well as Male Bowler of the Year. The phone call came in from an unknown number which Zak nearly didn’t answer as he had had a scam call the day before. Zak was very surprised when Coach Gary Stead broke the good news to him. Gary says Zak has had an impressive season for Canterbury, including being their leading wicket taker in all three competitions. He displayed impressive skills with the ball, particularly in T20 cricket for the Kings. "We also know he has skills with the bat, and it will be an excellent opportunity for him to be part of the group,” says Gary. The tour is an opportunity for players to stake a late claim for the T20 World Cup in the US and West Indies in June. The schedule for the games (all start 2am (NZT) is: Friday, April 19: First T20 at Rawalpindi; Sunday, April 21: Second T20 at Rawalpindi; Monday, April 22: Third T20 at Rawalpindi; Friday, April 26: Fourth T20 at Lahore and Sunday, April 28: Fifth T20 at Lahore.
Zak Foulkes has been named in the Black Caps T20 Squad for the Pakistan Tour with the first game starting 2am, Friday, April 19th,
