WINGS & WHEELS A LOCAL SUCCESS
Cold weather put a damper on the Wings & Wheels event with strong winds buffeting this year’s annual event. However, organiser Nev Croy says that while show car and plane numbers were down from the last year’s event, “we still had a fair number of people come along. After all bills are paid, we should come out on the right side of the ledger”. Nev says the event could not happen without the continued support of Peter Morrison and Liz Nattrass and the use of their working farm. “We estimate we had approximately 130 display cars, tractors, and trucks. We don’t know the exact number of spectators but considering the day, a fair number came along and supported us.” The McLeans Island Model Areo Club put on a fantastic
display flying a model jet and ac r o b at ic pl an e s. Th e Christchurch Airport crash fire tender created plenty of interest as did the display of World War two memorabilia and a 1970s Scorpion tank. Nev is especially grateful to the people who worked on the gate in the cold wind and to those, including st al lh o l der s, wh o ke p t everyone entertained and well fed and helped make the day a success.

A TASTE OF MULTICULTURE
On September 30, Darfield Residents Association served up a storm at its inaugural multicultural potluck dinner, attended by over 70 residents who contributed dishes featuring international cuisines. The event provided an opportunity for the bonding of community spirit, and the evening concluded with performance from Malvern Kapa Haka and the Darfield Ukelele Group. Harvey Polglase, chair of Darfield Residents Association, extended the invitation to the community to participate in future events, including the Christmas celebration in Darfield. Photo: Tony Gan
