The evening of Wednesday, June 28th, saw a changing of the guard for the Malvern Lions. Members, partners and representatives from the Ellesmere and Oxford Clubs attended a fantastic night held at Darfield High School. Entertainment was provided by five students playing the piano, three with no sheet music (wow talented!). This was followed by a highlights package from another five students that the Malvern Lions provided funds for them to travel to Great Barrier Island for a week of adventure. They spoke with confidence and humour about their amazing experience. The PTSA, along with student helpers, catered a buffet meal, followed by dessert that would not look out of place in any top restaurant. The outgoing President, Les Clement, Clement delivered his annual report eluding to his year's highlights, the Club's 50th Jubilee (albeit a year late due to Covid), and the handing over of funds to Malvern St John for
$22,000 after the annual golf match to help purchase defibrillators in the area. A huge thank you was conveyed to all the wives and partners for their assistance throughout the year. Les then welcomed the incoming President, Graeme Marshall. Marshall During the evening, the following Lions received awards: ♦ Lloyd Morgan Lions Clubs Charitable Trust Awards: - Life Member: Stuart Lill - Life Member: Brian Hawkins ♦ Ramsay Gibson Award for Club Service: Allan Thorne. Thorne This year there were many recipients of funds given by the Malvern Lions, including Sheffield Primary for musical instruments, Malvern Primary Schools Maths Club, Darfield High School Recreational and Academic Scholarships, many local sporting students, Auckland and East Coast floods, Turkey earthquakes and numerous more. The Club would like to acknowledge the support and generosity of the local community throughout the year.
