Natalie and Adrian Mannering from Nat's Nursery in Hororata have come up with a way to offer financial help for Nat’s hometown, Hawke’s Bay. Nat had planned on a flying visit to see her parents in the Hawke’s Bay but end up staying there for eleven days as she was caught up in Cyclone Gabrielle. “To start with, it didn’t seem so bad during the night compared to the vicious nor ’westers we get here,” commented Natalie. “But by the morning, we saw the most incredible sights. I have never seen so much carnage and water in my life! The area I grew up in, Twyford, a beautiful orcharding area, was drowned again. Gabrielle was much more powerful than Bola. In most areas affected, there was about two metres more water than Bola. My brother lost his house and my heart goes out to him and everyone else that is affected. It's unbelievable!” continued Nat.
If you know of something newsworthy, we’d like to know too!

“So much ground has been covered in silt, burying everything. They have nothing now, it’s gone! The hills are scarred with slips, and the coming weeks and months (winter) are going to be tough. “When I returned home I just wanted to help more, so we decided that 20% of our total sales for March and April, at Nat’ Nat’s Nursery will be donated to Hawke’ Hawke’s Bay Federated Farmers to help with animal feed and care. “Nat's Nursery is currently full to the brim with shelter plants, trees, mixed natives, hedging and garden fillers. With one of the best planting times nearly here (autumn), come and support your local nursery to help support fellow farmers and lifestylers get back on their feet,” concluded Nat. If any other business or individuals would like to contribute to the recovery feed and animal support in Hawke’s Bay, make contact with Natalie by calling 021 258 7241. Nat's Nursery Hororata is open by appointment 7 days a week or when the flag is up on Hororata Road (see advertisement below for more details or go to Nat’ Nat’s Nursery, Hororata’ Hororata’s Facebook page to see photos of plants available).
