Well known Darfield local, Nathan Carter recently received his Duke of Edinburgh Award, which he completed over three years. There are three sections to the Award; Bronze, Silver and Gold, with different activities having to be accomplished for each category within a section. Nathan completed parts of the three sections on camps, as well as attending Outward Bound and Spirit of Adventure. He has gained numerous skills while achieving this Award, completed hours of voluntary community services, as well as running and raising money for charities. Nathan has learnt lots of new talents, including playing musical instruments, driving a car, employment and flatting skills and much more. facing many challenges with perseverance and great determination. Nathan is very proud of himself, and likewise, his family and friends are beyond proud of the amazing young man he is. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award / Hillary Award Aotearoa New Zealand - Te Tohu Aonui a Te Tiuka o Erinipua / Te Paraihe o Hillary Aotearoa New Zealand is part of a worldwide network that provides young people with a balanced, noncompetitive programme of individual challenge through which they can make constructive use of their leisure time. The Award programme provides a framework for personal discovery and growth through Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journeys; developing perseverance, responsibility to self and the community. Individuals or organisations can use this framework, with its three levels, to provide individual challenge and achievement for young people between the ages of fourteen and twenty five. Congratulations Nathan on this fantastic achievement.
If you know of something newsworthy, we’d like to know too!
