WINNING BOER GOATS It was a very successful New Zealand Agriculture Show (9th 11th November) for the Sheffield based Jaegar Boers (Bassett Family), with the pinnacle win being Best Boer Goat in Show with JAG931 (Chesty), a 36+ month Doe. Also, her seven

week old daughter won Champion Junior Doe. “Thanks goes to Jess Bassett and Christine Lear for their handling help, especially Jess, who led Chesty through her age group class, Senior Champion Doe, Grand Champion Doe,

who deservedly took out the title,” continued Jenny. “Also in the Supreme competition was Jane Jenkins from Floridale Angus with a cow and calf who won the Meat and Wool Cup. “It was great to participate in the New Zealand Agriculture Show again after a two year break due to Covid and to see so many locals supporting the show by exhibiting or helping in various ways. “It was also great to safely get twelve goats back in the paddock on Friday night after their big week of being townies,” Jenny concluded.

LOCAL SMASHES GUMBOOT THROW

Darfield High School student Kirsty McCarthy-Dempsey placed second (23.96m) in the South Island Women's Gumboot Throwing Competition at the New Zealand Agriculture Show. The top three winners in the Men’s and Women’s category each received a pair of gumboots, money and the opportunity to compete at the Ford Ranger New Zealand Rural Games in Palmerston North next year.

Renee McLennan (nee Chamberlain) leading a Floridale Angus cow for Jane Jenkins. This two year old cow (Floridale Nicki) had a calf at foot (Floridale Pippa) and did extremely well at the New Zealand Agriculture Show, winning many ribbons, including Champion Angus Female, Champion Angus, the Meat and Wool Cup. To be eligible for the Meat and Wool Cup you must be the Champion from your breed. She also won the All Breeds Two Year Old Cow with Calf at Foot, which was judged locals Tony Partridge and Duncan James.
