The Springfield School 150th Jubilee took place over the weekend of October 28th-30th. Past and present students, staff and friends of the school turned up in droves to celebrate the event. The weekend started with a welcome function on Friday night, with attendees enjoying drinks and an amazing array of canapés provided by Springfield locals Leisa Ropiha and Tara Keogh’s TLC Catering. The mood was lively, with old friends reconnecting and many memories shared. Attendees poured over an extensive display of photos of the students and School, which had been painstakingly compiled by Caroline Hawkins from Springfield. A picnic on Saturday afternoon was followed by the official opening of the new School building. There was a lovely community feel to the occasion, and fortunately, threatening rain held off. Principal Keri Steele spoke about the history of the

School, and how features of the new building reflect the local environment and student’s learning journey. Mayor Sam Broughton also addressed the 200 plus strong crowd, before cutting the ribbon, held by the oldest and youngest current students, Ruby Peacock and Milly Faulkner. Once the new building was officially declared

open, former student Bob White rang the School bell, followed by photos, afternoon tea, and tours of the new building. It was a quick turnaround to the Saturday night dinner and dance, with attendees enjoying a delicious meal provided by Pulp Kitchen Catering. The crowd was entertained by MC John Dunne, with former student Maurice

Milliken cutting the jubilee cake. For those still standing, The Funky Hot Mamas live duo entertained late into the evening. The weekend concluded with a thanksgiving service at St Peter’s Church on Sunday. All in all the weekend was a huge success. Continued on page 2….

ROLLER DISCO LIGHT PARTY On Monday, October 31st, lots of new and returning faces headed along to the Darfield Recreation Centre for the much anticipated

Roller Disco Light Party, hosted by Two Rivers Community Trust. There was a lovely mixture of all ages joining in the fun,

including adults reliving their younger skating years! It is always fabulous to see young people helping and looking after the little ones, and there was plenty of that happening. Skaters brought along items for the Darfield Foodbank. We received an amazing variety of donations, thanks to everyone's

generosity. Ingrid and Courtney from PhatSk8 did a fantastic job of keeping everyone fitted with skates and helmets. There was plenty of time to skate and play fun games. A huge thanks to those that helped and supported the event, as well as everyone that joined in the fun!

Early Deadline next week due to Show Day! Aunty Lyn and Daisy enjoying themselves.

10am, Monday 7th Nov.
