Two local polo riders, James Reid and Matthew Geddes have been selected for the South Island (SI) SUPA squad of six, that will travel to NSW in September (27th - 29th) for a camp in Scone, at Anto White’s polo farm, and will then compete in the NSW Junior Championships against an Australian youth side from the

camp. James and Matthew are both 14 years old and have ridden horses most of their life, competing in A&P shows, jumping and hunting. Both families have a long affiliation with horses going back a few generations. James started playing polo when he was 11 years old and for

Matthew polo runs in his family, and he has always wanted to play polo like his Dad, Brent. They both started attending lessons at Polo School with Charlie Wood in Year 7 and are now part of the Port Hills Polo Club and the South Island SUPA polo for school students. They are also in a development group

for up-and-coming young riders, having weekly lessons in the summer months. James’ horse Stella, who he has been competing on for two years, is an off-the-track thoroughbred and is quite selective about who she likes riding her.

Daffodil Day on Friday, August 26th, is fast approaching. Collection sites in the Malvern area will include the Taste of Kiwi, Springfield Challenge, Sheffield Pie Shop, Darfield Four Square, Darfield Bakery (Friday and Saturday), Darfield Post Shop, Darfield Challenge, Kirwee Challenge, West Melton Garage in the morning and the Four Square on Friday afternoon, and on Saturday 27th. In addition, there will also be a 2km, 4km and 6km ‘Fun Run/ Walk’ held on Saturday 27th. Those who wish to participate will need to meet at Springfield Donut Park, at 10am. Feel free to dress up as there will be spot prizes for best dressed. Due to Covid restrictions and the current flu situation, the ‘Paint the Town Yellow’ will unfortunately not be happening

this year, but will hopefully be reinstated in 2023. The Malvern Cancer Support group are always in need of volunteers to assist, if this sounds like you please contact 03 925 9708 or email
