Celebrating the life-changing power of theatre

Malvern Theatres is undergoing a major £20 million re-development. This development on the south-east, Priory Park side of the building will add a 240-seat studio theatre to the venue’s four existing auditoria. Beneath this studio, at park level will be two additional studios for classes and workshops. The re-development will also improve access to the building from Priory Park and enhance the existing Forum Theatre. An outdoor amphitheatre will also be built overlooking Priory Park, with capacity to seat 100 people.

The project has a number of core aims: to increase community use of the theatres, to provide opportunities for participation in the arts, to promote well-being and to enrich the programme with a greater range of shows on offer. In particular, the 240-seat will be ideal for work that demands a smaller-scale, more intimate performing environment than our existing 800-seat venues can provide. The theatre is committed to remaining open during the build and the Festival Theatre, Cinema and Studio One as well as the café, restaurant and bars will all operate at maximum capacity. The Forum Theatre will be closed during the build but many of the shows which usually perform there will happen in the Festival Theatre instead.

Nor will the usual entrance from Priory Park be operational during the build, although a temporary side entrance has been created for those entering the building from Priory Park.

Following the success of the Young Company’s production of Brontë last year, this dynamic ensemble returns to take on one of modern theatre’s most ambitious and gripping works.

Set against the shadowy seaside of 1930s Brighton, Brighton Rock brings Graham Greene’s iconic novel to life. Teenage lovers Pinkie and Rose are pulled into a world of violence and betrayal as a brutal gang war spirals out of control.

Pinkie, a cold and calculating young gang leader, is determined to tighten his grip on the town, but as his rival Colleoni rises in power, his control begins to slip.

Our Star Theatre Company return to Malvern Theatres with Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II‘s timeless classic The Sound Of Music as their 5th Community Musical after their hugely successful and acclaimed productions in the Forum Theatre with 2024’s Fiddler on the Roof and last year’s Evita. The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. In Austria, 1938, an exuberant young governess brings music and joy back to a broken family, only to face danger and intrigue as the Nazis gain power. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. New Dawn Fades - A Play About Joy Division and Manchester tells the story of four ordinary lads who, inspired by the punk revolution of 1970s Manchester, came together to form one of the most influential bands of all time, Joy Division.

Following the untimely death of lead singer Ian Curtis, the band went on to huge worldwide success as New Order.

Malvern Theatres is situated in Grange Road, near the centre of Great Malvern, near to the Priory Church, Abbey Hotel and the Malvern Splash Leisure Centre. The postcode for the Malvern Theatres is WR14 3HB and GPS co-ordinates to the front of the building are N52 06.633; W002 19.632.

MAP

There are a number of car parks within easy walking distance of the theatres. These are indicated on the map overleaf. The long-stay car park in Priory Road is particularly recommended (co-ordinates N52 06.576; W002 19.443). From here, it’s a short walk past the Splash Leisure Centre into Priory Park and the theatre’s park-side entrance.

By Train

Visitors arriving by train should alight at Great Malvern Station (and not Malvern Link Station). Malvern Theatres is a 5-10 minute walk from Great Malvern Station.

By Bus

Local bus services stopping under 200 metres from the theatre are run by First Group, who run routes to and from nearby towns and villages as well as to Worcester City and Hereford. To plan your journey, please see www.ﬁrstgroup.com.

BOOKING & HERITAGE FEES:

Tickets sold are subject to a booking fee of 12% of ticket value. This fee includes postage where applicable. Bronze, Silver and Gold Members of the theatre are exempt from booking fees. Film showings (excluding live and recorded broadcasts) are also exempt from booking fees. The prices quoted in this brochure are inclusive of booking fees so the price printed is the price paid. Included within the price is a £3 per ticket contribution to our Heritage Fund.

GROUP DISCOUNT

Buy 5 full price tickets for the same performance; get a 6th free. Buy 19 or more tickets and save up to 25% on the full price. Certain productions only, please ask when booking.

STANDBY

Tickets at a reduced rate may be available on the day of a performance to Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Members of Malvern Theatres and to members of the Malvern Theatres Standby Club.

LATECOMERS

To limit disturbance to audiences and artists, latecomers can only be admitted at a suitable break in the performance. For certain events, it may not be possible to admit anyone once the performance has started. Please note that readmission during the performance cannot always be guaranteed and you may not be able to return to your original seat.

ACCESS FACILITIES

There are spaces for wheelchair users at all performances and ﬁlm screenings in all of our auditoria.

Step-free seating is available in the Festival Theatre stalls when accessed through Door 1. The cinema stalls are also step free.

Limited Blue Badge spaces are located in the bays to the right of the Grange Road entrance (free of charge) and in the public car park beside the trafﬁc lights (charges apply). The layby at the front of the building may be used for drop-offs and pick-ups but we kindly ask guests to refrain from parking there for the duration of the show.

Accessible toilets are available on Levels 0, 1 and 2.

A Changing Places Facility is available on Level 1.

A Sennheiser hearing assistance system is available in all auditoria and can be accessed with or without a hearing aid. Free receivers and headsets can be collected from the cloakroom from 30 minutes prior to the beginning of a performance or screening.

Audio-Described performances offer a live description, through headsets, of what’s happening on stage.

We welcome assistance dogs. They can be taken into the performance or left with a member of staff.

Signed performances with British Signed Language Interpretation.

Relaxed performances and film screenings are specifically designed for people who find regular performance settings challenging. We extend a warm welcome to people who feel overwhelmed by the ordinary performance environment. These relaxed performances are open to anyone who would benefit from a relaxed, non-judgemental atmosphere including (but not limited to) people living with dementia; people with an Autism Spectrum Condition; people with learning difficulties; people with sensory or communication difficulties; parents with young babies; and anyone who feels they would benefit from a more supportive and inclusive experience.
