Thanks to all of you who bring us great theater.
BACKSTAGE WITH THE PRODUCING ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Welcome to the finale of our 2019/20 Season: How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Adapted from the satirical book by Shepherd Mead, How to Succeed… is an energetic production from some of Broadway’s greatest writers and musicians: Frank Loesser, Abe Burrows, Jack Weinstock, and Willie Gilbert. This show manages to exist out-of-time, harkening to a bygone era of office antics but still a sharp and witty retort to our modern day lives. How to Succeed… is a classic that’s still as charming as the day it premiered on Broadway in 1961. The Maltz Jupiter Theatre extends a warm welcome to Director Andy Sandberg and Choreographer Rommy Sandhu who are both making their debut leading a production at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. In 2009, Andy became the youngest producer in history to win a Tony Award® for the hit revival of HAIR. We were pleased to welcome Andy to the Theatre for our 2018 ARC New Works Theatre Festival where he and Greg Edwards workshopped a revised edition of their hit play Application Pending. Rommy is joining us from the off-Broadway premiere of The Unsinkable Molly Brown and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him here. Subscriptions are now on sale for our 2020/21 season! New and renewing subscribers who return their completed subscription forms to the box office by April 5th will be entered into our VIP Sweepstakes. The winner will receive: a reserved parking spot for the entire season, complimentary drinks for each performance, access to the Patty and Bob Hendrickson Imagine Room during intermissions, two tickets to each of the 2020/21 Limited Engagements, and two tickets to the 2021 gala, Casino La Mer. While our season is winding down, the Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts is preparing for our summer student productions. The Conservatory offers a wide selection of camps that offer the unique opportunity for students to experience the process of a professional theatre production. This summer you can see firsthand how amazing these young artists are in Music Man, Shrek the Musical, and Disney’s Aladdin Jr. An incredible season like this one would not have been possible without your support of the Maltz Jupiter Theatre. As we approach Act II of our Believe Capital Campaign, I invite you to join us in this momentous leap forward not only for the Maltz Jupiter Theatre but our community as a whole. With a re-designed stage, new production spaces, and a number of upgrades, our Theatre will bring talent from across the country to Jupiter in the pursuit of launching Broadway’s next big hit. On behalf of everyone at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre, it has been an absolute joy serving this community and we’re thrilled to continue this journey with you in our 20/21 season.

ABE BURROWS
Author After studying to be a doctor and an accountant, Abe Burrows had a career in sales before becoming a successful radio script writer and writer/performer of musical parody numbers. His first Broadway libretto was Guys and Dolls, co-written with Jo Swerling, with a score by Frank Loesser. Among the musicals for which he provided librettos are Make A Wish, CanCan and Silk Stockings (both with scores by Cole Porter), Say, Darling, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (which he also directed; score by Frank Loesser). His non-musical plays include Cactus Flower (wrote and directed) and Forty Carats (directed).
JACK WEINSTOCK
Author Jack Weinstock, a native New Yorker who attended Columbia College and was a graduate of NYU's Bellevue Medical College, was in private life a doctor. Before How to Succeed in Business... "Dr. Jack" (as Weinstock's friends called him) wrote for various television shows including The Howdy Doody Show, and Tom Corbett, Space Cadet. He met his collaborator Willie Gilbert, first as a patient and then as a friend. In addition to his successful writing career, Dr. Jack successfully lived two lives, one as author and one as doctor. He was medical director of a life insurance company, surgeon at two hospitals, and had a Fifth Avenue medical practice. Jack Weinstock died in 1969.
You Can. TV credits range from science fiction to classic children's shows like Howdy Doody and sketches for comedian Jackie Gleason. Willie Gilbert died in 1980.
FRANK LOESSER
Composer and Lyricist One of America's great composer/lyricists, Frank Loesser began his songwriting career during the Depression as a lyricist, contributing songs to Broadway revues and nightclub acts. His work with composer Irving Actman in the 1936 revue THE ILLUSTRATOR'S SHOW led to a songwriting contract in Hollywood, where he spent the next eleven years working with such composers as Burton Lane, Jule Styne, Arthur Schwartz and Hoagy Carmichael. In 1948 Loesser was approached by fledgling Broadway producers Cy Feuer and Ernest Martin to write music and lyrics to George Abbott's libretto for an adaptation of the classic Brandon Thomas play Charley's Aunt. The new musical, which starred Ray Bolger, was called WHERE'S CHARLEY? and was a hit. This led to Loesser's next show, the hugely influential and successful GUYS AND DOLLS in 1950, also produced by Feuer and Martin, with a script by Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling. In 1956 Loesser wrote the libretto, music and lyrics for his next show, THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, adapted from Sidney Howard's play, They Knew What They Wanted. This impressive score contains over 30 musical numbers and makes extensive use of operatic techniques and forms, including recitative, arias, duets, trios and choral numbers. In 1960 he provided the score and was co-librettist for GREENWILLOW. In 1961, Loesser wrote the score for the Pulitzer Prize-winning HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING. His last show, PLEASURES AND PALACES, closed in 1965 during out-of-town tryouts. For more information on Frank Loesser, please visit his official website.
WILLIE GILBERT
Author Willie Gilbert, who came from Cleveland, Ohio, received a B.S. in education, but pursued a career as a comedian. Together Gilbert and Weinstock won Tony Awards® as co-writers of How to Succeed... Subsequent stage credits include the 1963 musical comedy Hot Spot and the 1965 hit comedy mystery Catch Me If

The Marvelous Life of How to Succeed BY ALEX CHIMIENTI
Rudy Vallee, Virginia Martin and Robert Morse from the original 1961 Broadway production of How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. Friedman-Abeles, New York
H
ow to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying premiered on Broadway in 1961 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre starring Robert Morse, Charles Nelson Reilly, and Virginia Martin. The show had a West End production from 1963-1964, a Broadway revival in 1995 starring Matthew Broderick and Megan Mullally, followed by a US National tour in '96, and most recently a second revival on Broadway in 2011 starring Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette with Nick Jonas taking over for Radcliffe. A lot has changed about our world in five decades, yet this show keeps coming back. Some of the biggest names on Broadway have performed in this show, raising the question, why? What’s the secret to How to Succeed’s success?
The show is fun. Frank Loesser, composer and lyricist of How to Succeed and Guys and Dolls, was one of the most accomplished writers of his era. Grandiose parody is easy but satire is another game entirely. The lyrics somehow match the absurd antics of Jerry Lewis with the sardonic wit of Johnny Carson. The office may have evolved but office politics are a relatable source of frustration and shenanigans that remains true across generations.
12
Add this to the resurgence of the gray flannel aesthetic thanks to shows like Mad Men and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and you’ve got a show that looks as sharp as it sounds. This show will always have a home in the American theatrical canon because it excels at entertaining. It’s the quintessential musical: sexy, outrageous, and clever. Everything a show needs to succeed.

CONSERVATORY STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
CHLOE LAINE LOBSINGER One of our goals as an organization is to provide world class education to our community and future artists. To see a student enter the world as a prepared and confident performer is a source of great pride for the Maltz Jupiter Theatre Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts.
In addition to her mainstage credits of Annie and Billy Elliot: The Musical, Chloe has participated in the Conservatory with credits such as Best of Broadway Revue, Oklahoma!, Aladdin Jr., The Pajama Game, Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr., Anything Goes, West Side Story, Guys and Dolls, 42nd Street, Sister Act, CATS, and Seussical at The Gardens Mall. Chloe has also been on the technical side of the curtain with the Youth Artists’ Chair Program, serving as the Lighting Designer for Rhinoceros and Production Stage Manager for The Diary of Anne Frank. Chloe has also been in shows such as Bye Bye Birdie at the Lake Worth Playhouse and Edges at Palm Beach Dramaworks. To learn more about her process, we asked Chloe how she prepares for a role and what lesson from the Conservatory guides her as an artist to this day.. HOW DID YOU PREPARE FOR HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING? Prior to my audition for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, I reminded myself while walking into the room that every audition is a chance to grow and if you book it, that’s just the cherry on top! I truly love auditioning. Can they get a little stressful? Sure, but at the end of the day, I’ve learned from the other actors in the room and I’ve gained more experience. WHAT’S ONE LESSON FROM YOUR TIME WITH THE GOLDNER CONSERVATORY OF PERFORMING ARTS THAT STANDS OUT AND HAS HELPED YOU AS AN ARTIST? I’ve been with the Goldner Conservatory of Performing Arts for 8 years now, and something that stands out from the myriad of things I’ve learned is how much it means just to show up in the room with a good attitude and be ready to work. My Conservatory teacher and mentor of 8 years, Brian Andrews, has taught me that being talented is only a small percentage of the real work of theatre. Showing up, being reliable, and being easy to work with is most of the job. Brian Andrews has become such a huge part of my time at the Conservatory, and I don’t know where I would be without him. He pours his heart and soul into his work, always gives more than what was required, and truly leads by example.
