This annual report comes to you with great thanks. We have enjoyed an incredible year because of your generosity. We are proud to report that we raised more than $6,775,097 million this past year. This happened while we were in the middle of a major capital campaign that raised $3,995,000 in cash gifts. There are great things happening at Malden Catholic, and we couldn’t do it without you.
This September we welcomed 156 students to our inaugural 7th and 8th grade program with the opening of our new 50 Crystal St. building. With over 17 classrooms, a gym, fitness center and a 35,0002 foot turf field the new facility is being used by all 1,056 MC students across grades 7 to 12. This building marks an incredible milestone for our school as we look to meet the needs of today’s students with highlevel academic and athletic facilities.
The Book of Hebrews tells us of a “great cloud of witnesses” that has come before us in faith to grant us a bright future. This annual report contains the names of those who believe in a Malden Catholic education and have placed their faith in us to continue to provide the excellence and life-changing experience of a Xaverian Brothers education. We thank you and look forward to seeing you in the coming year.
Gratefully,
John K. Thornburg President

I
would say what’s made the largest impact on me are the internships I was able to take through Malden Catholic. I did two internships, both at MIT for chemical engineering, and we spent the summer working on several different projects. It really allowed me to enhance my critical thinking skills, problem solving and just getting real world experience in the lab.

Building On Success Our Essential Future Campaign for Malden Catholic
The Campaign for Malden Catholic seeks to unite the entire Malden Catholic community to make a real and lasting difference for students today and future generations. For over 90 years, Malden Catholic has shaped emerging leaders. Our graduates, formed and guided by our Xaverian values, are young men and women inspired and prepared to flourish in the world they are called to lead and make better. With the support of our loyal and dedicated alumni, benefactors, and friends, the Campaign is transforming our campus, strengthening and expanding our programs, and setting a solid foundation to ensure that Xaverian-inspired education is available and accessible for generations to come in Malden and throughout Greater Boston. Remarkably, 50 Crystal Street has transformed Malden Catholic, fulfi lling the strategic plan’s promise and positioning the school not only for continued growth but also for new levels of excellence in all aspects of student learning and formation. Malden Catholic thanks our loyal donors listed here who have supported the Campaign and invites others to join us as we embark on an inspiring vision for Malden Catholic-a vision that is not only redefi ning our campus but also profoundly impacting the lives of our students, families, and community. The support of all members of the MC community will deeply honor the tremendous commitment of the Xaverian Brothers and dedicated lay men and women who have made a profound life-changing impact on our young people.

Creating a Board Designated Fund with an initial gift of $25,000 ensures that a Malden Catholic education will remain affordable and attainable for generations of students. This fund offers flexibility, allowing an individual, group, or family to establish a scholarship in memory or honor of a loved one. The funds are invested and pay out an established percentage of income annually in financial aid, and the corpus size can be increased at any time. Malden Catholic is grateful for those who have created and continue to support these funds. Contributions to funds made this fiscal year are listed under each fund’s name.

The Brother Gilbert C.F.X. Legacy Society
In 2004, Malden Catholic inaugurated the Theodore James Ryken Society to recognize those who have provided for future generations of Malden Catholic students by making gifts through bequests, life income arrangements, and other planned gifts. In ‘22, Malden Catholic renamed the school’s planned giving society to honor the legacy of Brother Gilbert Cairnes C.F.X., the first Headmaster of Malden Catholic.
As one who left an indelible mark on Malden Catholic, Brother Gilbert, a native of Somerville, was a gifted teacher and a born communicator with a keen understanding of the young and a deep interest in their concerns. To his fellow Xaverian Brothers and the members of the MC community, Brother Gilbert C.F.X. was and continues to be an inspiration today. Throughout his tenure at Malden Catholic, his limitless store of amusing anecdotes always served as a vehicle for an inspirational message, and his listening skills lent an added grace to a life genuinely dedicated to the hospitable acceptance of others.
Daily references are known today by alumni and friends that refer to the great legacy of Brother Gilbert C.F.X., such as the name of the school’s stadium and the school’s Chapter of the National Honor Society, to name a few. As Malden Catholic continues to grow and develop to meet the needs of today’s students and families through the school’s legacy society, we remember, and honor Brother Gilbert C.F.X., who modeled so well the motto of the Xaverian Brothers, “In Harmony Small Things Grow.”
By joining the Brother Gilbert C.F.X. Legacy Society, you are not only showing your commitment to the current and future students of Malden Catholic but also leaving a lasting impact. Your planned gift is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Xaverian Brothers and Malden Catholic’s dedicated lay teachers. It serves as an inspiration to future generations and a reminder of
the philanthropy that sustains Malden Catholic. As a member of the Brother Gilbert C.F.X. Society, your dedication and loyalty transcend time, strengthening the position of Malden Catholic for years to come.
Brother Gilbert C.F.X. Society members have expressed their special provisions for Malden Catholic in their estate plans in writing. This act of planned giving benefits Malden Catholic and offers personal benefits to the donors, such as reducing or eliminating taxes on capital gains and federal estate taxes. We encourage you to consult your financial advisor or accountant for more details on arranging for a planned gift and the personal benefits associated with this charitable act.

The accomplishment I’m most proud of is being chosen as an XBSS student. I love the whole aspect of being able to mix in my spiritual life with my academic life. Being chosen as an XBSS student after being part of campus ministry for so many years was amazing, and experience being able to go to Connecticut and meet XBSS students from other Xaverian Brothers schools was so unique.
