TCS BOE tables vote for interim superintendent, allows TPD full access to schools By Hannah Curran Editor

TRUSSVILLE — Trussville City Schools (TCS) Board of Education (BOE) called a board meeting Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, at 5 p.m. in the Board Room of the Central Office for the purpose of discussing and approval of an interim superintendent. However, upon further discussion, the board tabled the approval of an interim superintendent until further evaluations can be made. Board President Kathy Brown explained that the board is not ready to vote and would need to have a more concise plan, and they decided to table the vote. Board Vice President Kim DeShazo explained that the board had options in which direction they would like to take in determining an acting superintendent. “We can look internally, or we can look externally,” DeShazo said. “There are pros and cons for both.”

TCS Superintendent placed on 60-day paid leave of absence: ‘Communication and transparency is key’ By Hannah Curran Editor

TRUSSVILLE — Trussville City Schools (TCS) Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill was placed on a 60-day paid leave of absence by the TCS Board of Education (BOE) on Friday, Sept. 30, during a special called meeting. Neill was not present at the meeting. “I think that we have certain issues that we need to learn about and in this situation that we find ourselves in,” TCS BOE Vice President Kim DeShazo said. “There’s been a lot of things that have come out this week, and we need to figure out and get to the bottom of those things.” Neill will not have access to email or the building, and she would have no daily duties. “We needed some space,” TCS BOE President Kathy Brown said. “We needed

some space to do our job as a school board.” DeShazo also requested that the board seek services from outside entities that would “conduct an unbiased, thorough investigation, review, and find out the facts.”

The board approved her request. Many parents and citizens filed into the board meeting room to share their thoughts and concerns about recent events that have transpired in TCS.

Nathan Pruet, whose son was on the “Death Note” list, addressed the board, explaining that their policies need to be updated for accountability purposes.

LEEDS – The Leeds Council tabled the fiscal year 2022-2023 budget after Councilman Eric Turner voiced concerns about several items and the expenses being paid by the city.
