KENYA’S EXPORTS TO THE USA, 2025

t is with immense national pride that I welcome you to the Kenya Pavilion at the Americas Food & Beverage Show (AFBS) 2026 in Miami, Florida, a market of over 600 million consumers spanning the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, drawing more than 10,000 buyers from over 120 countries. Kenya’s participation is a direct outcome of the high-level trade and investment engagements I led in Miami in February 2026, and it reflects my Ministry’s unwavering commitment to converting diplomatic goodwill into tangible export outcomes for our business community. The Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI) has placed export growth at the heart of Kenya’s economic transformation agenda, targeting a sustained ten per cent annual expansion in export earnings. In 2025, Kenya’s exports to the United States stood at USD 616.2 million, against a market that imported USD 3.5 trillion from the world revealing a gap that represents genuine opportunity for Kenyan coffee, tea, macadamia, flowers and processed foods. We are closing that gap through frameworks such as the extended Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) arrangement with the United States, positioning Kenya as a reliable, high-quality source for the world’s most competitive consumer market. The United States (U.S.) is not only the world’s largest import market, with imports valued at USD 3.5 trillion in 2025, but also one of the world’s leading exporters, recording exports worth USD

|4

2.18 trillion and accounting for 8.5% of global exports. At the bilateral level, however, trade between Kenya and the United States remains imbalanced in favour of the U.S. In 2025, Kenya exported goods worth USD 616.2 million to the U.S. while importing goods worth USD 1.056 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of approximately USD 439.8 million. This persistent deficit underscores the need for targeted interventions aimed at increasing Kenyan exports and strengthening its presence in the U.S. market. It is within this context that the Miami trade engagement initiative and Kenya’s participation at the AFBS 2026 is of strategic importance. The initiative represents a deliberate effort to address the bilateral trade imbalance by providing a platform for Kenyan firms to showcase their products, forge commercial partnerships, and access new market opportunities while at the same time connecting Kenyan exporters with buyers, distributors, and retail supply chains across the Americas. This initiative is expected to stimulate export growth, expand Kenya’s market share in the United States. The Kenya pavilion covers a premium 900 square-foot space strategically located at the Center Stage of AFBS is more than an exhibition space that house the Kenyan business community who will present diverse products, present an opportunity to buyers and visitors to sample what is on offer,

engage buyers and forge lasting leads and relationships that will enable them to engage beyond this manifestation. Our participation in this event is a testament that our business community is not only ready and open for business but is also prepared to meet the highest standards of quality and compliance, that reinforces the authentic promise of the Kenya Brand.

This pavilion is a statement of intent: Kenya is open for business, and our products carry the authentic promise of the Kenyan Brand. To the buyers, distributors and industry leaders gathered in Miami: I invite you to visit the Kenya pavilion, engage and explore the diverse offerings with confidence. Behind every product is a Kenyan farmer, processor and entrepreneur ready to build a lasting partnership with you. Let us make this show the beginning of many prosperous years of trade between Kenya and the Americas.

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL SECRETARY, STATE DEPARTMENT FOR TRADE From Engagement to Enterprise

K

enya’s participation in the Americas Food & Beverage Show (AFBS) 2026 demonstrates the State Department for Trade’s resolve to translate our diplomatic and trade engagements into measurable export results. This participation builds on the momentum generated by the Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyajui’s visit to Miami in February 2026 and reflects Kenya’s determination to use strategic engagements to widen market access, promote Kenyan products and strengthen trade and investment ties with the United States.(U.S.) To actualize this, the State Department secured a premium national pavilion at the influential trade fair, recognizing Miami’s unmatched position as the logistics gateway into the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.

In 2025, Kenya’s leading exports to the U.S. market included apparel products such as men’s and boys’ suits (USD 110.7 million), coffee (USD 63.1 million), jerseys and pullovers (USD 58.2 million), men’s undergarments (USD 44.0 million), women’s suits (USD 38.8 million) and macadamia nuts (USD 33.2 million). Yet despite this performance, the bilateral trade remains heavily skewed in favour of the U.S. Addressing this imbalance requires sustained market access supported by predictable and longterm trade arrangements. In this regard, the two-year extension of the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) to December 31,2028 is welcome. The extension will not only offer impetus to existing investments already done but also signal further engagements for additional products that can exploit this window and address the trade imbalance for the benefit of the people of our two nations.

Government facilitation to ensure the exporter’s ambition is realized

2026 AMERICAS FOOD & BEVERAGE SHOW MIAMI, FLORIDA, USA

Owing to the huge potential the American market presents and the existing trade deficit, there is need to establish a sustainable and predictable trade and investment framework that provides certainty for businesses, encourages investment in exportoriented production, and deepens commercial ties between the two countries. The Miami initiative and Kenya’s participation at AFBS 2026 therefore represents not only a promotion platform, but also part of a broader strategy to leverage AGOA and advance long-term trade partnerships as the most sustainable pathway

toward expanding Kenya’s exports and narrowing the bilateral trade deficit. To provide additional information on Kenya’s participation, an exhibitors’ catalogue has been prepared, providing detailed information on the sectors showcased here, the diversity of products on offer and Kenya’s bilateral trade perspective. The catalogue is intended to provide buyers, distributors and trade partners in the U.S. market with a comprehensive overview of the opportunities available and affirms Kenya’s commitment to offering competitive, compliant products and building long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships. I extend my sincere

gratitude to the planning committee, the diplomatic mission in Washington D.C., and every exhibitor whose efforts brought this participation to fruition. I also applaud the support of the coordinating and regulatory agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in preparing our exhibitors by ensuring compliance, labelling and packaging standards are met as well as cold-chain logistics through Miami’s Foreign-Trade Zones. Let this platform mark the beginning of enduring commercial relationships between Kenya and the United States.

FOREWORD Made in Kenya, Ready for the World

T

he Kenya Export Promotion and Branding Agency (KEPROBA) is pleased to have successfully coordinated Kenya’s participation at this manifestation aimed at promoting Kenyan exports and championing the Kenyan Brand at the world’s most competitive platform. Kenya’s participation in the AFBS, 2026 serves as one of the practical avenues for expanding market access, generating export orders, and gradually narrowing the bilateral trade gap. Kenya’s presence in the AFBS, 2026 should therefore be viewed not only as a trade promotion exercise, but also as part of a broader strategy to leverage existing frameworks to advance lasting trade partnerships capable of delivering a more balanced and mutually beneficial trading relationship between the two countries.

Top 3 ROSES, BLACK TEA & COFFEE LEAD US POTENTIAL

From a global perspective, the United States (U.S.) is one of the most attractive export destinations in the world, importing goods worth USD 3.5 trillion in 2025 while ranking as the world’s second-largest exporter with exports valued at USD 2.18 trillion. Against this immense market, Kenya’s exports totalled USD 616.2 million in 2025 while importing goods worth USD 1.056 billion, highlighting a significant trade deficit of approximately USD 439.8 million in favour of the U.S. This reveals untapped opportunities for products such as cut roses and buds, black tea, unroasted coffee, macadamia, processed foods, and other value-added agricultural products. The Kenya pavilion is a 900 square-foot platform, centrally positioned at AFBS’s Center Stage, bringing together fifteen companies, showcasing Kenyan flowers, coffee and tea, providing opportunity to engage at scheduled business roundtables, buyer matchmaking and a dedicated 45-minute Chef’s Stage moment to bring Kenyan cuisine to a captive American audience. To guide visitors to the pavilion, a comprehensive catalogue has been prepared which introduces them to the very best of Kenya’s tea, coffee, macadamia and dried fruits, avocado oil and agri-technology, processed foods and natural products with each exhibitor pre-vetted for export readiness, quality assurance and production capacity. To every buyer turning these pages: come and meet Kenya. Taste our coffee, admire our flowers, sample our spices, and discover why the world’s most discerning markets are choosing Kenyan quality. We look forward to building lasting partnerships with you, well beyond the three days of this show.

USA 1.1 Background

The United States (U.S. or US) or informally as America, is a country primarily located in North America consisting of 50 states, a federal district, five major unincorporated territories, nine minor outlying Islands, and 326 Indian reservations. It is the world's third-largest country by both land and total area. It shares land borders with Canada to its north and with Mexico to its south and has maritime borders with the Bahamas, Cuba, Russia, and other nations. With a population of over 333 million, it is the most populous country in the Americas and the third-most populous in the world. The national capital of the United States is Washington, D.C., and its most populous city and principal financial centre is New York City. The United States, leading the global economy ahead of China, experienced a downturn following the COVID-19 pandemic, exacerbated by growing inequalities and outdated infrastructure. However, the economy swiftly rebounded, with GDP growth estimated at 5.7% in 2021 and 2.1% in 2022 (IMF). In 2023, despite significant monetary policy tightening, the economy continued to expand robustly, driven by a tight labour market, rising incomes, and sustained consumer demand. While residential investment

| 10

decreased due to high mortgage rates, government support for sectors like green energy and semiconductors bolstered non-residential construction. The IMF anticipates a slowdown in economic growth in 2024 and 2025, with rates projected at 1.5% and 1.8%, respectively, adjusting to tighter financial conditions. Public finances faced challenges, with the general government deficit rising to 8.8% of GDP in 2023, driven by reduced revenues and increased interest expenses. Despite a slight expected reduction, the deficit is forecasted to remain high at 7.6% of GDP through 2025, leading to a rise in government debt. Consumer price inflation, though moderated, remained a concern, expected to reach 2.8% in 2024 and 2.4% in 2025. The labour market cooled gradually in 2023, with a stable unemployment rate of 3.6%, projected to increase slightly to 3.8% in 2024. Despite economic growth, inequalities persisted, exacerbated by public health policies leading to more uninsured individuals. The poverty rate remained at 11.5% in 2022, with 37.9 million people affected, highlighting ongoing challenges (US Census)

COMPANY OVERVIEW

afé Nairobi is a specialty coffee company founded by Kenyan-born entrepreneur Martin Kabaki with a mission to bring the distinctive taste and heritage of premium Kenyan coffee to consumers across the United States and beyond. Rooted in Martin’s upbringing in Kenya and more than 15 years of experience in the coffee industry, Café Nairobi focuses on high-quality, high-elevation Arabica coffee grown in the fertile volcanic soils of Kenya. The company’s coffees are shade and mountain grown, carefully selected for quality, and roasted in Jacksonville, Florida to preserve their rich aroma, vibrant flavor, and distinctive character. Café

Nairobi is committed to quality, transparency, and consumer confidence. The company has taken the additional step of having its coffee independently tested by a third-party laboratory for mold, yeast, mycotoxins including aflatoxins, pesticide residues, heavy metals, and other quality indicators. Café Nairobi proudly markets its coffee as lab-tested moldfree and emphasizes its naturally smooth, loweracidity drinking experience. The brand offers a variety of roast profiles and formats for retail, wholesale, foodservice, and distribution customers, including 12-ounce retail bags as well as larger 2-pound and 5-pound foodservice sizes. Today, Café Nairobi is expanding

its presence through supermarkets, specialty retailers, farmers markets, e-commerce, wholesale accounts, and strategic distribution partnerships. The brand is already available through The Fresh Market and is actively pursuing additional retail and distribution opportunities throughout the United States and international markets, including the Caribbean. By participating in the Kenyan Pavilion at the Americas Food & Beverage Show in Miami, Café Nairobi aims to introduce more buyers and distributors to the exceptional quality of Kenyan coffee while building long-term partnerships that support its broader vision of becoming one of the leading specialty Kenyan coffee brands in the U.S. market.

SUPER GIBS LTD A legacy of kenyan excellence

COMPANY CONTACTS Mathew Mugo | Managing Director Phone: +254 728 981 656 Email: mugo@gibscoffee.com info@gibscoffee.com

Head office: GIBSONS COMPLEX, EASTERN BYPASS NAIROBI Website: https://gibscoffee.com

COMPANY OVERVIEW Gibsons Coffee is a proudly Kenyan, familyrooted brand with a heritage spanning more than six decades. Our story began in the early 1960s when our father, Gibson, planted Arabica varieties SL28 and SL34 on a modest five-acre farm shortly after Kenya attained self-governance. This laid the foundation for a tradition of exceptional quality. Today, that vision has grown into hundreds of acres of carefully managed farms on the fertile slopes of Mount Kenya, near the equator. Nutrient-rich volcanic soils, favourable temperatures, reliable rainfall and highaltitude conditions allow the cherries to mature slowly and develop the distinctive character of fine Kenyan coffee.

| 32

Ripe cherries are selectively handpicked, sorted, wet-processed and naturally sun-dried under closely monitored conditions. This preserves the coffee’s bright acidity, deep aroma, full body and delicate floral notes. The parchment coffee is then milled, and the green beans are mechanically sorted into seven grades according to size, shape and weight, ensuring consistency and quality. Our mission is to add value to our coffee and that of Kenya’s small-scale farmers by marketing it globally as authentic, single-origin Kenyan coffee. Through organised distribution and direct trade, we bring our green beans closer to roasters. Ethical production is central to our identity.

We purchase directly from growers and cooperatives, promote responsible environmental practices and provide fair compensation at or above prevailing market rates. Gibsons Coffee represents heritage, skilled husbandry, ethical sourcing and uncompromising quality—from Mount Kenya to cups worldwide.

COMPANY OVERVIEW

E

lgon Nuts is the consumer brand of Onja Uone Ltd, a family-owned Kenyan agro-processing company founded by Joseph and Gladys Sitati. Its story began in the late 1990s when the couple noticed the striking gap between what farmers received for raw macadamias and the higher retail price of processed products. They saw an opportunity to add value locally while paying growers more fairly. In 2000, they planted their first macadamia seedlings on five acres in Lukhuna Village, near Mount Elgon, later expanding the orchard to 25 acres. Joseph also participated in efforts to develop Kenya’s emerging macadamia industry.

The couple sold their Nairobi home to finance processing machinery from Australia. Although the equipment arrived in 2011, it remained unused while they undertook volunteer church assignments abroad. In 2019, their children, Martin and Deborah, helped assemble the machinery, reactivate Onja Uone Ltd and establish its processing operation. The company achieved FSSC 22000 food-safety certification in 2021 despite challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

and market access. Elgon Nuts offers raw and roasted nuts, macadamia butter and cold-pressed oil. Through fair purchasing, contract farming, free seedlings and skills development, the business seeks to increase farmers’ incomes, create rural employment and promote environmentally beneficial tree cultivation. Elgon Nuts represents the Sitati family’s mission to ensure more of macadamia’s value remains with the communities that grow it.

Onja Uone now propagates seedlings, purchases nuts from smallholders, processes kernels and provides farmers with orchard training, extension services
