JAPANESE BEAUTY SECRETS

In Japan, matcha isn't just for drinking. Women there have been known to put the green tea powder in their hair to minimise thinning and help thicken the hair. Matcha green tea powder is packed with antioxidants, including the powerful EGCG, which helps to protect the body and skin from free-radical damage. It prevents hair loss, which involves concocting a mixture of matcha, egg and coconut oil, then generously massaging it into the scalp. This can easilybemadefromhomeusinghouseholditems.

FRENCH BEAUTY SECRETS

French women are celebrated worldwide for their effortlessly chic style, and their skincare routines are no exception. The French approach to beauty emphasises simplicity, quality and consistency. Behind the understatedly elegant, natural-yet-flawless skin they often flaunt, French women prioritise cleansing to maintain a clear complexion. Micellar water, a gentle and effective cleanser that removes makeup and impurities without harsh chemicals, is a skincare hero in the region and ensures a clean canvas for the rest of your skincare routine. A cardinal ruleinFrenchskincareistheconsistentremovalofmakeup.

BALI BEAUTY SECRETS

Bali’s beautifying rituals are intertwined with the region’s tropical surroundings. Floral-infused face masks and coconut oil hair treatments are common practices, reflecting the lush and vibrant essence of the island. Steeped in tradition and emphasising the use of local ingredients, Balinese indulge in the Boreh scrub, a cultural blend of ginger, turmeric and rice powder that’s known for stimulatingbloodcirculation.

SS 2025

EXCLUSIVE Q&A WITH TOP LUXURY FASHION WHOLESALER CHARLIE ROCKALL

“Focused” is how Charlie Rockall describes Paris Fashion Week - the English luxury fashion wholesaler, whose role is pivotal in the everchanging fashion world.

MP Trendsetter: Was this your first time at Paris Fashion Week?

CR: This past June was actually my third PFW. All within the same year, so I feel relatively comfortable with the ordeal now.

MP Trendsetter: What did your day-today look like whilst you were there?

CR: No day at PFW is the same. From parties to afterparties, team dinners to client dinners, free Overmono sets to overpriced cigarettes. Waking up in the Air BNB with the rest of the team we just took each day as it came. First appointment was usually at 10am so we would be at the showroom for 9. A mix of buyers, friends of the brand and media. A constant stream of captivating people filtering through the showroom doors, and here I am walking them through the collection. Discussing the history of the brand and having a laugh with the team. Couple pints after work was a necessity, normally bumping into a multitude of familiar faces at the bar. This is about when word would pass around that Matthew Williams is hosting an ALYX party and a couple texts here and there and the guestlist has been sorted.

MP Trendsetter: What was your role at Paris Fashion Week?

CR: My role in Paris was being a part of Cole Buxton's wholesale department. My responsibilities included the set up of JOOR, our wholesale database. Which provides the team and buyers with an overview of the collection we were presenting. Whilst in Paris, I was walking the buyers through the collection with the help of Cole and Lee - discussing fabrics, MOQs, price ranges and terms. I’ve been doing this now for around a year, starting off as an intern at the company just as I had finished school. The opportunities I have experienced whilst being at the company have been absolutely insane, attending PFW being one of them.

MP Trendsetter: What celebrities did you see?

CR: There was a couple of funny interactions actually. The first one included DIGGA D [a well known UK rap star]. In which me and the team were blasting his music out of the Uber, teaching the Uber about DIGGA D and his music when we turned a corner and were face-to-face with him. Safe to say he was in complete awe at the coincidence and so were we! During the Festival De Music, we also stumbled across a large crown looking up at a building singing and dancing. As we arrived closer we realised AJ Tracey was rapping down onto the street gathering huge crowds which was an absolutely mad thing to experience.

MP Trendstter: Are there opportunities for collaboration with designers or brands you work with who participated in Paris Fashion Week?

MP Trendsetter: If you could describe Paris Fashion Week in 3 words, what would they be?

Trends from PFW SS 2025

FOCUSED

CR: We’re always looking out for new talent and ideas. Collaborations are an excellent way of promoting each brand but we have to be extremely careful in who we choose to make sure it matches our current brand values. we already make shoes and sunglasses which leave huge room for collaborations with similar brands or bring on celebrity features. Watch this space!

MP Trendsetter: What was your favourite fashion trend you saw coming out of this year's PFW?

CR: Camo is well and truly back! Even real tree have done a full 180. You’ll see Camo appearing on pretty much everything and in multiple colourways, not just your traditional greens and browns. Look out for vibrant pops of neon and mixed textures. Here to stay I say!

MP Trendsetter: What was the most interesting show that you saw?

CR: No shows for me, however we did get to have a look round the Duke and Dexter showroom and they've got some great stuff coming!

MP Trendsetter: What brands impressed you the most?

CR: Cole Buxton of course!

In the corporate world, dress codes have evolved significantly.

The traditional business suit, once a symbol of professionalism and authority is gradually giving way to more relaxed attire in many industries.

The word blazer is actually derived from a ship - the HMS Blazer, due to the jacket having roots as part of a uniform for a variety of boating and maritime activities. The crew wore blue and white jackets, which then began to be referred as “blazers”.

Around the late 2000's, blazers were adopted as a fashion trend by womenbecoming a statement piece.

The Reign of Sandals: A summer staple worn from the beach to the office, again an extremely versatile form of footwear. A pop of colour adds character to a simple summer outfit. A casual classic.

Dress codes can be highly political, serving as a form of resitance to societal norms and power structures. The women’s suffaregette movement in the early 20th century saw women adopting more pratical clothing as a statement against restricitve gender norms.

Pierre Bourdieu, a French sociologist came up with the term “habitus” (the way that people percieve and respond to the social world they inhabit). This an then be linked into how people dress which can be further determined with groups they are part of. For example careers and dress aesthetics.

GEN ZTopTrends

GenerationZ,bornbetweenthemid-1990sandearly2010s, is indeed a generation that is redefining many aspects of culture, including fashion. Their approach to fashion is unique and characterized by several key behaviors, habits, andvaluesthatsetthemapartfrompreviousgenerations

In 2024, Generation Z's passion for individuality has propelledthetrendofcustomizedandpersonalizedclothing to the forefront of fashion. This generation values selfexpression and uniqueness, and these priorities are deeply intertwinedwiththeirfashionchoices. Here'showthistrend isplayingout.

Generation Z’s approach to fashion is deeply rooted in personal style, sustainability, and ethical practices. Their preference for brands that align with these values is reshapingthefashionindustryinsignificantways:

DIY CULTURE

Gen Z's do-it-yourself (DIY) culture is booming. Young consumers are increasingly customizing their clothing through embroidery, painting, and other forms of alteration. This handson approach allows them to create one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect their personalstyleandcreativity.

PERSONAL EXPRESSION

GenZisdeeplyinvestedinexpressing their individuality through fashion. They are less inclined to follow mainstream trends and more focused on curating a personal style that reflectstheiridentityandvalues

CULTURAL REPRENSENTATIONS

This generation is also keen on seeing diverse cultural representation in fashion, seeking brands that celebrate different ethnicities, backgrounds, and stories.

UPCYCLING FASHION

Thrifting and upcycling are popular among Gen Z as they offer a way to acquire unique pieces without contributing to the demand for fast fashion. By choosing second-hand clothing or transforming old garments intosomethingnew, theyreducetheir carbon footprint and promote a more sustainablefashioncycle.

THE RISE OF GENDER FLUID FASHION

Over recent years the blurring of lines between mens and women's fashion have allowed for diverse gender identities and a complete push against societal norms and constructs.Though the concept is not entirely knew with a huge rise of stars like Prince, David Bowie and Grace Jones pushing the idea of androgyny and no gender limitations during the 80's. However the move away from androgyny and the subculture of avant garde to enter mainstream consciousness encouraging high fashion designers to include gender neutral pieces within thier collections.

CULTURAL SHIFTS

The growing demands for gender neutral clothing due to the shift in modern day culture and how people now identify within society has proven to fashion brands the importance of inclusivity with things such as gender, sizing and materials. The need to cater to all overrides the need for mass production to a more meaningful collection of pieces.

LUXURY BRANDS GOING NEUTRAL

Gender inclusivity has been heavily incorporated into high fashion culture. Gucci have become one of the front runners for its use of gender fluidity clothing through its red carpet looks for stars such as Harry styles and Billie Eilish to name a few. Louis Vuitton are also well known for their use of female models within their menswear collection shows with the most recent shows curated by Pharell continuing to push the monentum in the spring 2024 show.

‘UNLEASH THE BEAST’

All things animal print have been a long existing trend in womenswear, however menswear designers have gone wild for snake, zebra and leopard print.

Recently Kim Jones sent down male models down the Dior catwalk in leopard print vest tops. This showed the male audience that not only women can wear and look good in leopard. Since then more men have been wearing animal print in their day to day outfits.

‘SHORT SUMMER’

Summer 2024 shorts are becoming shorter and shorter and will continue to shorten. This trend has become popular and designers are creating more of the ‘barley there micro shorts’.

One male celebrity loving the short short is Pharrel Williams. His now become more of a fashion icon and influenced more men to wear ‘short short’ shorts. Now men are showing more thigh and who knows there may be more to show in the future.
