It’s coming home, its coming…
The outcome may have not been iconic (once again… maybe next time England, ay?) but to celebrate football not coming home it only felt right to speak to a football hero that we can arguably agree always will be, not only when striking for England but for his memorable fashion antics amongst the menswear landscape. From his memorable moments on the pitch (remember that halfway line goal in 1996?) to those outside the changing room, the ex-England captain has showcased many iconic fashion and sporting moments, some less controversial than others… we all remember the controversies of Sarong Gate right?
In case you didn’t know, Sarong Gate took place during the 1998 World Cup held in France when Beckham was papped with then fiancé Victoria by The Sun wearing girls’ clothes – a patterned sarong over his trousers. Ridiculed, criticised and shamed for his outrageous feminine fashion choice by his football hooligan fans, why the f*** would a straight male athlete choose to wear girls’ clothes? To find out a little bit more (and to soften Sunday’s blow), we caught up with Beckham himself to discuss his fashion antics.

David, I’m sure it’s still a touchy subject just like it is for us but Sunday night, surprised or not surprised?
To be honest I’ve got to admit I was surprised, I really thought England had it in the bag this time especially seeing their improvements in their performance over the last few matches. Reaching the final once again is still a win though let’s not forget that, but I guess let’s hope next time the outcome is different.
Let’s hope so David, maybe they just need you back! Looking back to your days playing for England you had some incredibly memorable moments, not just on the pitch but away from it too especially when it came to some of your let’s say controversial fashion choices. Taking it right back to ‘98, I’m sure you know what’s coming – Sarong Gate, David why the hell did you choose to wear a sarong?
I knew this one was coming and in all honestly I don’t know! To me I guess it was honestly never that deep, sarongs are great and I guess I just wanted to try something different. I liked it and so did Vics and everyone knows I’ve always liked experimenting with my fashion, I’m not your typical jeans and t-shirt type of bloke when it comes to styling what I wear so I guess for me it was just a bit of harmful fun.
We thought it was pretty iconic too and we still do now. Looking back I think we can both agree we accounted for the minority there, the backlash we all saw you receive was pretty awful. Why do you think you were so heavily criticised? Was it your industry, or do you think it was the influence you had?
I think it was a whole mix of the two as well as not forgetting how different times were back then, even though we’re talking about something that only happened what, not even thirty years ago? I think my industry was a big player and the culture it had at the time; I think we can all collectively remember the pretty nasty reputation England fans had at that time for their hooliganism I guess let’s say. Causing the riots they did during that world cup, I think it’s no shocker that they couldn’t begin to process why their soon to be captain would ever want to wear girl’s clothes let alone do it. I remember the media headlines like it was yesterday and to be honest, I think it only fuelled the shame fans felt.
We definitely agree and we remember them too. Fast forward to 2024 I think we can both agree that the football culture amongst England fans this Euros is definitely a whole lot different to that back then. Do you think a Sarong Gate part two could potentially happen again? Were you ever tempted to bring it back for the Euros and if you ever did, do you think you’d be criticised as badly as you were back then?
I think it definitely could, I’d still wear one now. Just like I didn’t back then, I still see no harm it in and I still think it looked sick. I still love experimenting with my style if not even more so than back then so I’m sure I’ve still got a few controversial fashion choices yet to come in my time. Times have changed immensely since back then and everyone’s a lot more accepting now, today no one would bat an eyelid if a guy walked down the street in a sarong and even back then when it wasn’t that way it never stopped me. Football culture has changed since the 90s, I still think today a lot of fans would disapprove but the media published would be nowhere near as criticising as it was back then. So no, if I did it again I don’t think I’d received the criticism I got last time and even if I did it wouldn’t stop me.
We’ll definitely be waiting for a part two then David that’s for sure, maybe for the upcoming world cup?
Ah we’ll see about that one! I guess let’s say keep your eyes peeled, and let’s I guess just hope maybe this time it comes home.
If there’s any place that calls summer to me its Ibiza, and if you know me you know I cannot get enough of the place. Whether you enjoy the island’s buzzing club culture and live for two-stepping till the early hours or prefer to take it chill and simply wish to enjoy its spectacular views, a trip to the island once summer hits has remained a must for me for years now, not just for its contagious vibes but also when it comes to something so simple- the outfits. For any of you who maybe don’t know me I’m Steven, a plus size model, fashion and content influencer and to be honest an all-round absolute Ibiza fiend (maybe I’ll grow out of
It one day boys). I’m a sucker for everything fashion and being the bigger bloke that I am, scouting potential outfit inspiration on my socials every year as the annual Ibiza trip approaches continues to remind me of the lack of it for us boys. Us bigger blokes deserve to look and feel good too so whether your planning your next trip to the island or scouting out outfit inspiration for the next boys holiday, come along with me and the boys as we visit some of the island’s best known venues, have an absolute blast and wear some undeniably class outfits (I promise I’m not big headed, I’ll let you guys do the talking).

We kicked off day one with one of my favourite day events on the island, Ocean Beach. Located in Sant Antoni De Portmany, it’s the perfect destination for good music, unreal food and just pure, feelgood vibes. Here the events last all day until the late evening so an outfit suitable for the Ibiza heat is a must. I’m a sucker for crochet when it comes to the summer season, it’s a staple easy to incorporate into any outfit for any getaway occasion and its super comfy, so we opted for an oversized crochet t-shirt paired with pinstripe linen shorts.

ASOSDESIGNCrochetOversizedT-Shirtand

The schedule for day two saw another not to miss event on the island at Pacha’s outdoor venue Destino, the perfect location to watch the sun set whilst you two-step the night away. Here it’s known that everyone dresses to impress but when I tell you it gets hot, it gets HOT even once the sun has set so for this evening’s attire we chose an oversized polo tee paired with striped pocketed shorts. Comfy, cool and easy to incorporate to level up any outfit, trust me when I say once you invest in a good, oversized tee you really won’t look back.

After an unforgettable night at Destino me and the boys were feeling somewhat fragile I guess we can say, so day three only felt right to stop off at Ibiza old town to recuperate ourselves and take in the island’s beautiful views. Smart casual was the brief for the evening of taking in the views and some good food, so we opted for a shirt and shorts linen coord set. If you know me you know I’ll forever say a coord is something you just can’t go wrong with- an outfit matched for you when you’re still recovering from a brutal hangover? I’ll take it any day.

Having successfully revived ourselves after a heavy few days we kicked off day four with a visit to Café Mambo located along the scenic shores of Sant Antoni De Portmany. A first time visiting for me and the boys, we enjoyed a round of cheeky pina coladas and mojitos whilst we waited for the evening to get going and trust me it didn’t disappoint. Day four’s outfit featured a cargo mid-sleeve shirt with denim jorts, something a little different from the rest of the trip’s fits but the perfect option for as it got that little bit cooler as the night went on.

I’m not biased when it comes to most things but if there’s one place that is an absolute must when visiting the island for me it’s got to be Ushuaia, so the boys had little (no) choice but to take a trip to Platja D’en Bossa for day five. A slightly more expensive venue than many let’s say, but boy it's always worth every penny and once again lived up to every expectation I had and more. If you’ve been to Ushuaia before you’ll know I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s absolutely packed, so tonight’s attire employed a matching vest and short coord to keep it cool.

For our final day spent on the island there was no better place to enjoy the last of the Ibiza sun than Blue Marlin, another must visit beach club located in Es Cubells known for its spectacular costal views and pure feel-good vibes (trust me when I say the Ibiza blues are real as I’m writing this, Ibiza 2025 is already in the works). We opted for an outfit of neutral tones for the evening pairing another textured oversized tee with complementing shorts, a perfect fit for watching the sun and the music turn up at Blue Marlin’s beautiful beach club settings.

Sure, shorts are still making the rounds but the timeless jorts are making a comeback. This statement piece offers comfort and breathing room for them warmer days. They are also perfect for dressing up or down.
Nothing makes summer outfit planning easier than your standard vest. This stylish clothing item can be used alone but is also perfect layered with an open T-shirt.
If you want a unique style, crochet is the way forward. With a one of a kind design, it is the perfect way to improve your wardrobe ready for summer.

The shoe that provides comfort and premium quality. Perfect as a staple piece in the wardrobe for that day out, or the office mornings and maybe even that evening meal you’ve got planned.

Colourful trainers can turn a simple outfit into a memorable look injected with personality. ASOS offer many popular footwear brands, providing you with all the colour choices to match your style. Bold footwear is a simple starting point to build an adventurous wardrobe.

Accessories are a small but impactful way to add colour to your outfits. Vibrant glasses, hats, bags, jewellery and watches can help make your outfits stand out. These simple additions are perfect for you if want a more understated way to incorporate colour into your outfits.

Abstract designs, stripes, florals and geometric patterns add colour and depth to your wardrobe. For a dynamic look, choose patterns with multiple colours. Prints and patterns help to make outfits unique, visually engaging and showcase your personality.

Mixing neutral clothing with colourful pieces enables you to introduce colour without overwhelming your outfit. Pairing a bright jacket with a white tshirt creates a stand out look that is also harmonious. It is a sophisticated way to bring in more colour to your wardrobe.
Seasonal colour palettes keep your wardrobe updated, helping you to create fresh looks. For Spring and Summer, go for pastel and bright tones like coral and mint. For Autumn and Winter, go for deeper and muted tones like burgundy and forest green.

Men no longer have to fit the stereotypes of a man to fit into society, they can now express themselves in any way they wish. Artist Harry Styles and Actor Tom Holland are great examples of this.
“I THINK THERE’S SO MUCH MASCULINITY
“Harry Styles wearing a dress makes him less of a man”.
I couldn’t disagree with this more. There’s something so masculine about a man that feels so comfortable in their own skin to be able to wear a dress. Harry embraces both his femininity and masculinity in his fashion and also his behaviour. He is very open with his fans on his beliefs and his personal life and loves to spread positivity and embraces kindness. The high impact he has on his fans is shown with how they support individuality with themselves and one another.
He once said “Fill up your own cup and let them fall in love with the overflow”. The idea of men having to be content and comfortable in themselves shows true strength compared to just being physically tough. Harry is promoting this to his fans and is showing modern masculinity is much more than being strong and brave. Over the years a stigma has been created that men should always act brave and that it’s not manly for them to show emotions. Harry Styles shows his community that you can be a man at the same time as embracing emotions, whether these emotions are positive or negative.

Tom Holland, well known for playing the role of Spider-Man in one of Marvel's creations, showcases his own take on modern masculinity in many different ways. The actor is very open with his vulnerability and found he could connect with the character of Spider-Man. Unlike the stereotype of a hero being brave and indestructible, Spider-Man is very human like experiencing fear and doubt at times. Tom is very open about the personal obstacles that come with the fame. He chooses not to shy away from the media when it comes to his anxiety on the public media. By doing this he is breaking down the stereotypical barriers of masculinity and is showing others it’s okay to do so.
Tom Holland and his co-star Zendaya are in a relationship and both have many different accomplishments in life. Tom goes out of his way to celebrate her achievements, and is truly supportive of her career just the same as she is with him. The couple don’t overshadow each other but instead both uplift each other. Tom’s look on relationships shows a more modern perspective, where both partners are seen as equals and emotional support and respect are key qualities of a relationship. It is shown that Tom embodies the evolving values of what it means to be a man in today’s world.

A Q&A was taken with a straight man after he was taken to see his first drag show on a date to gain his views.
Q. What was your initial thoughts on drag shows before attending this one?
A.To be honest I never really thought much about them. I just thought it was men dressing up as women and putting on a performance, I know now there’s more to it.
Q. Now you’ve experienced a show, what would you say has surprised you the most?
A.I think I was most surprised by the talent. The performers were all so amazing and put on such a good show. I didn’t expect it to be so theatrical and entertaining.
Q. How did you find the atmosphere at the show?

A.It was so fun and welcoming! I was a bit worried I would feel out of place but it wasn’t like that at all. Everyone was just laughing and having a good time.
Q. Do you think attending the show has impacted your views on masculinity?
A. Yeah I think so. I think it just shows that masculinity isn’t as fixated as people can make it out to be. Seeing the cast embrace both masculine and feminine aspects was so impactful. I think it’s shown me that being a man is more about feeling comfortable in your own skin, and choosing to express that in any way you desire to.
Q. Would you recommend your male friends to attend a drag show?
A. I think I would only recommend to those that are more openminded, but absolutely I really enjoyed the experience and would happily attend one again now I know more about them.

Since first rising to fame in 2010, Harry Styles has always portrayed an extroverted sense of style; Speaking in an interview with Vogue “You can never be overdressed. There’s no such thing”. Being a modern icon of androgynous fashion, Harry Styles continuously blurs the lines between traditionally masculine and feminine styles, intertwining his wardrobe with vibrant colours, bold prints, ruffled blouses, oversized blazers… and oh wait, we can’t forget the iconic disco sequin jumpsuit at Coachella in 2022, channelling his inner Freddie Mercury and Dianna Ross.
Harry, like other fashionistas, expresses his personality through clothing. This proves that fashion has no boundaries and that clothing should be a form of self-expression. Styles believes that “The lines are just crumbling away” and men should be more open to removing the barriers to just embrace life and clothing to its fullest potential. He’s so right, why hold your style back for the noise from others? Don’t let negative judgments be the reason you’re holding your style back! Channel your inner Harry Styles. Grab the most striking item of clothing and wear it with pride. Styles has opened up a new meaning to fashion, channelling a unique, gender-defying aesthetic that resonates with his fans and fashion onlookers. His androgenic style is not just a trend but an assertion of uniqueness and personal freedom.

Jaden Smith, the nepo baby to the iconic Will Smith, is a trendsetter in androgynous style. From the start of his teenage years, Jaden has been redefining traditional gender norms with his experimental style choices. His style can be considered as unorthodox as he is known for deconstructing fashion and social gender constructions. When it comes to representing gender-fluid fashion, no one does it better than Jaden Smith. His fearless style choices have seen him styling skirts and dresses to non-conventional masculine streetwear.
A significant moment in Jaden Smith's career was the 2016 Louis Vuitton Campaign, where he appeared in a bold patterned skirt and leather jacket. This campaign marked a significant shift in the fashion industry. Symbolizing the shift toward more fluid fashion representation and gender-neutral garments. By embracing both a feminine and masculine aesthetic, Jaden is empowering others to express themselves beyond gender norms, redefining what it means to be a “man” along the way.
Ah, the Love Island Loverboy. From a 5 week villa holiday, to quickly becoming an internet sensation…don’t worry Jordan, we remember who you are. The Love Island heartthrob has completely changed the trajectory of his fashion style. From skinny jeans to skirts, Jordan has caught the attention of the public, motivating his 718k followers to be eccentric with their style and always push the boundaries of fashion.
The ex-islanders style features a range of flowing fabrics, cropped items, tailored suits and even non-conventional jewellery, often playing with items that challenge the conventional norms. Whether it's a sheer top and leather trousers or even a floral blouse and combat boots, Jordan exudes confidence in his fashion choices. As a rising fashion star, Jordan is helping redefine what it means to dress as a man, with freedom and authenticity in this crazy world we live in.

Rising to fame after Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird, Timothee Chalamet’s androgynous style on the red carpets has gained rather a lot of attention. The award-winning actor seamlessly blends masculine and feminine garments, in a way that still feels effortless and chic. A tailored suit with a twist is often the styling avenue Chalemet goes down, and I mean, whose eye isn’t he catching on the carpet?
From Louis Vuitton to Alexander Mcqueen, Timothee certainly knows how to experiment with luxury brands, often mixing masculine and feminine elements from top designers to create his looks. The willingness to experiment with fashion reflects his artistic spirit and personality, constantly pushing away the outdated “masculine” image to redefine the current 2024 male.

Having overcome racism after pulling himself up from the suburban playing fields of west London to becoming England’s Euro 2024 star
Everyone from Nando’s to New Balance, wants a piece of England’s and Arsenal's 22-year-old forward and midfielder. Being Nicknamed ‘Starboy’ Bakyo Saka is a true role model who not only displays hard work, versatility and dedication but also has phenomenal technical ability.
Blending the bold vibrance of Nigerian heritage with modern football flair, English born Saka proudly displayed his Nigerian heritage from his parents on his Instagram platform back in 2023 after visiting the capital, Lagos last year. During his time there, he connected with his Nigerian fans and was not scared of showcasing this on social media.
Displaying vibrant colours and block patterns, Nigerian fashion designers such as Burna Boy, WizKid, Davido, Tiwa Savage Asake and Tems are becoming more confident and creative in their work and the global fashion community now looks to Nigeria for inspiration.
A typical formal outfit for a Nigerian man is called ‘The Yoruba’ this is commonly worn as part of a threepiece set: an open-stitched full gown, a long-sleeved shirt, and sokoto (trousers fitted snugly at the ankle).

Here at Asos We celebrate what makes us unique and stay true to ourselves, therefore in due to the success of the England football team in the UEFA European Football Championship 2024 which commenced throughout June and July, we sat down with Bakyo and created three fashionable looks that celebrate all that Saka as an individual.

From Germany to Emirates Stadium Saka can be seen dedicated to his team showcasing his customary neon football boots and on training days, his New Balance essentials.

On needed rest and recovery days Bakyo himself can be seen sporting bright coloured shorts and a pair of statement NB trainers whether that's to help charitable causes, a light gym session or travelling and seeing his loved ones.

Suited for a summer evening Saka appreciates following trends set from luxury fashion brands, his outfit choice depicted here features a white shirt with colourful birds alongside of white trousers and Adidas campus.
When the England and Arsenal player missed a penalty against Italy in 2021 during the final of the UEFA European Football Championship 2020, he faced significant racist abuse online. This incident highlighted the ongoing issue of racism in football and across the UK. Saka at the time was quoted saying it was a ‘sad reality’ that social media platforms such as Instagram failed to remove these comments as this isn't the first time this kind of abuse has been displayed within the football industry.

The mental health charity Mind has emphasised the severe consequences of racism on mental well-being. Racist abuse can lead to feelings of isolation, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Mind advocates for better support systems for individuals facing such discrimination, stressing the importance of creating a more inclusive and supportive environment. Mind offers tailored services on issues such as racism offering helplines, online communities as well as hosting a program in 2019 for ‘young black men’ such as Bakyo Saka.

Growing up and finding yourself is already a task in itself, let alone adding the pressures from society on-top of that. As an androgonist gay 18 year old, Salvatore really understands the ‘How To’s’ on how to survive as a Gen Z, delving deeper into what inspires his daily fashion choices.
In the ASOS photoshoot, Salvatore had full freedom to style himself in clothing that made him feel liberated, confident and empowered.
Who is your biggest fashion inspiration and why?
“My biggest fashion inspiration is my mother.
Growing up, she always dressed me in amazing outfits and taught me a lot about style and what suits me best. Her sense of fashion is very timeless as she herself doesn't follow current trends, and I feel most comfortable and confident when shopping for new clothes with her guidance. She understands my personal style better than anyone else, and I always value her advice and opinions.”

characters but I think a lot of the time, these characters heavily rely on
How does Media, including social media, influence your perception on fashion and style?
“ TV shows and Films heavily influenced my fashion sense as there is always an outfit I love in every show I watch. “ “ Media from the past also educates me on what was in style / on trend back in the day e.g 90s styling in 'Clueless' and 80s styling in 'Stranger Things’ “ “ id also say Social media is a great way to gain inspiration from other fashion influencers/content creators and even your peers. Following fashion houses social media accounts (e.g Mugler, Chanel) also allows me to stay up-todate on their current collections “
How does your fashion style reflect your identity?
“I would say that my fashion style is heavily influenced by my current interests!
Someone's music taste is a huge part of their identity and it's a huge part of mine! I love Madonna and she is my all time favourite artist, and I love to wear her merch / t shirts with Madonna designs on them. When I wear these pieces of clothing, I feel like I'm making a statement of who l admire. Plus, it's a great way to meet people with similar interests because you never know who might stop you and ask about your band T-shirt. I can talk to anyone about music and I like to translate that onto my fashion choices and identity. This also applies to favourite movies and TV shows.”
Are there any fashion trends or movements you are particularly excited about?
“I wouldn't say that there are particular trends that I am excited about because if I'm being honest, I'm not really that aware of the most current fashion trend. I just follow what I like and what looks good on me! I also don't particularly follow one style, I just go for individual things.”

Within the media, Men are often seen to fit in the ‘Male Box’ which is a theory on understanding how a man behaves. These popular stereotypes are often reinforced to understand the behavioural traits of a man and what ”box” they should fit into. Which we all know isn’t as easy as that...
Common Media Male Stereotypes:
Hyper sexuality
Selfsufficiency
Physical attractiveness Aggression and control
Acting tough Rigid gender roles
Seeing as it’s 2024, I recon it’s about times these “Stereotypes” are broken, don’t you recon?
Breaking male stereotypes can only start when the media starts to embrace the diversity of males, and understand how every man cannot fit in 1 box. It is important to understand men as complex individuals. They are vulnerable, emotional and multifaceted. Understanding men on a deeper level, by opening up conversations around stigmatised topics like mental health, sexuality, body shapes , Sex and just challenging the traditional norms of a males.
By opening up conversations around these topics, we can redefine what it means to be a man today.
Hetrosexuality and homophobia
The body positive movement was first put in place to challenge the unrealistic body portrayals and to encourage conversations on different body representations. The movement swiftly took off and has now encouraged a multitude of conversations within the media, allowing for women and men to discuss body image without sigma or judgement. Although the movement has encouraged conversations, there is still a significant lack of body positivity representation around men.
Where are plus size men within the fashion industry? You may question why your body type isn’t represented online or in the media and to be honest it’s getting quite boring now. Vogue Business found that only 1.5% of males in shows from Milan and Paris fashion week wore a size in between and over Xl. What’s shocking about this statistic, is that on average, The top majority of male T-Shirt sizes to sell out first are M,L and XL, So why is there not enough representation? The answer has always been so unclear yet it’s so simple. Showing real bodys and plus size males within the media and the fashion industry reflects diversity of society, helping men feel size accepted regardless of how they look. This representation crushes unrealistic beauty standards for men, boosting their self esteem and encourages a more authentic view on masculinity.
I think it's important to understand how real men feel about how the media affects their self image. So a small focus group was gathered to discuss this exact topic, because at the end of the day, to understand the solution, we need to understand the men first.
“Honestly, seeing a guy on TV or on Social Media with a 6 pack does somtimes send me into a spiral, questioning why I dont look like that. But I have to remind myself that majority of men dont look like that and you see a ‘dad bod’ more often than a 6 pack when you’re out and about”
“When I watch films with the perfect male body in it does make me want to go to the gym. Then I realised it’s ok to just be me and you dont have to be perfect all the time”

“ It would be nice to see an increase in regular guys in fashion campaigns. It’s not very often a campaign doesn’t include a guy with a 6 pack and no body hair”
“I worry for when my two son’s grow up. I want them to feel they are good enough the way they and they don’t have to strive to have this unrealistic “perfect male”. We all face challenges and that’s just part of the journey of life”
I think it's clear to see in a society that’s evolved so much over the past few years, there’s still a-lot of work to be done. If you’re reading this and feel the affects of the media on your selfimage, just know, you are perfect the way you are and everybody should be celebrated no matter shape or size. Your body is the least interesting thing about you!
Student Christopher Smith, tells us what it's like on and off stage when you're the only guy in the studio.

It's as competitive to get into a top drama school as it is Oxford University - and in some ways even less diverse. But unlike Oxford, we're talking gender - and a real gender imbalance. Stella Mann College of Performing Arts recent summer show, for example, featured a total of 4 boys out of 130 performers. We spoke to dance student Christopher Smith about the academy, about how he’s making the best out of being the token male…
MU: Is it true you chose to go to the most female heavy drama school in the UK?
CS: I got accepted into the UK’s five top dance colleges, a plie is a plie and you will still have 8am ballet wherever you go. It's the same training. I chose to train at Stella to gain opportunities, my teachers know me, I'm not brown hair in row number three with a good kick’.
Universities with a 50-50 ratio and a high intake strive to be inclusive and diverse. To me this raises the question, are these universities taking on talentless men to be in the spotlight?’
MU: A woman has stated that they wish they were a boy because It's easy to be a man in the industry, claiming all you have to do is use your ‘penis points’.How does that make you feel?
CS: I think there's a big misconception that it will be easier for me to get a job, I'm still gonna have to fight for my spot, like it's not it, it won't be easy for me there's going to be a million other boys in the room who have had the same 4 years training. I will still have to fight for my spot if I want to be the best man for the job.
MU: Let's talk about opportunities you get, do you ever feel guilty for always being chosen?
CS: It's totally different, like training male privilege is a big thing at uni. Im get chosen for these opportunities like photo shoots, big dance events such as Londons ‘Move It’, like I get those opportunities and I'm really appreciative for that, but I still work just as hard as everybody else.

This is the musical theatre industry after all, so for the men who complete the training that can only be compared to the military, it's not all doom and gloom.
Male role models in the industry who are truly ‘defying gravity’ are the famous Sir Mathew Bourne OBE who is a dance and musical creative director and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber a composer and impresario for musicals. These men are known throughout the industry for truly working ‘non stop’, and are both knighted for their services towards dance and musician theatre.

Having trained at Tiffany Theatre College, Arron Archer who currently features in West Ends ‘Mamma Mia The Musical’ is making other ‘money money money’ as a part time influencer.‘Laying all his love’ on his lifestyle while giving advice on the ‘name of the game’ when it comes to dance and musical theatre also displaying his personal fashion sense.

Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, however this is not translated in the retail world. Majority of retail stores use unrealistic mannequins that reflect an idealised and stereotypical body. This lack of representation affects customers’ self confidence as they don’t feel seen and accepted. Diversity is growing online, with retailers like ASOS showcasing all body types, but big developments are needed in stores.
Conducting a survey of respondents from all ages and genders revealed that 91% of people feel that current mannequins don’t represent a wide variety of body types. This lack of inclusivity negatively impacts selfesteem, as 75% of respondents said they don’t see their body type in
“Retail has remained static whilst the world has evolved.”
Speaking to a retail store manager, who has experienced first hand the fastpaced world of retail for many years, highlighted that elements of retail have not advanced to match the modern world. Whilst technological advancements are continuously introduced, more traditional aspects of shopping, like mannequins, have stayed exactly the same.
The retail industry must embrace body diversity to create a more inclusive

Man Up asked several men in their twenties who their female inspirations are. This study was done to encourage diverse perspectives and enhance empathy for encouraging men to open up and not man up, allowing them to see the world through different lenses.

I look up to my Grandma, in her life she has raised 3 kids and always has time for everyone. She is the strongest woman I know and has faced many battles of her own over the years, but this still doesn’t stop her from being there for others.

My inspiration is my Mum, she has always sacrificed and dedicated her life for me. Her character inspires me to be a better person and to thrive for greater things. She is my biggest supporter.
My female inspiration is my twin sister Molly, having shared the same experiences growing up it has been inspiring to watch her become the woman she has become. She is the funniest person I know but not only that she is kind and always there to go to whether that be for advice or just a chat. I feel very blessed to have a sibling as amazing as her.

My Aunt has always been someone look up to. She is such a big part of my family and likes to be there for everyone and has always been a big part of my growing up. I hope to have her patience and to be able to brighten a room like she does when i’m older.
