JOIN US for the 9th annual Pars for Postpartum Depression Golf Outing on Monday, July 27, 2026. Enjoy 18 championship holes and views that take your breath away at Edgewood Country Club. Only 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, Edgewood is a straightforward course. However, factor in the rolling fairways, the bunkers, and sometimes, considerable amounts of undulation with the greens, and you have the difficulty level of a competitive course. You can take a chance at the $20,000 hole-in-one prize, 50/50 raffle, and win BIG ticket raffle prizes.
One in five women will experience an episode of clinical depression in her lifetime, and more than half will never seek treatment. Depression affects women about twice as often as men. While pregnancy and the postpartum period are often considered a time of great joy, when a woman experiences depression, anxiety, or symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder, it can also be a time of great confusion and uncertainty. Finding someone who has the clinical skill, expertise, and understanding to help define the problem and develop a plan of treatment can be frustrating. The staff of the Behavioral Health Services at UPMC MageeWomens Hospital are equipped to do just that. Working with ob-gyns, social workers, and family members, our staff provides education, support, and treatment.
To date, proceeds raised have contributed to the creation of parent support group sessions that enable new moms and dads to openly discuss how they are affected by anxiety and depression, as well as find support among peers and professionals. Additionally, a newly renovated childcare room has been constructed and will be staffed to allow those moms seeking counseling at our Intensive Outpatient group therapy location in Wexford to bring their children with them and have them cared for by our staff.
Proceeds benefit postpartum depression services at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital.

Why Magee-Womens?
“The NEST program saved my life. I wouldn’t be here without them. I want other women to know there’s help. We have programs, therapists, and doctors who truly care.”
—Andrea Brown, NEST Program Participant
When Steve received his stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis, doctors said it had spread to his bones. But with strong progress following chemotherapy, he and his wife Andrea continued family planning. Soon, they celebrated some good news: Andrea was pregnant.
Six months later, a new tumor appeared—it was wrapped around Steve’s spine, limiting his mobility. Andrea drove them home after Austin was born at UPMC MageeWomens Hospital that November. When Steve passed in January, Andrea suddenly became a new mom, and a single parent. “I was just a mom struggling—with grief, with being a single parent, and with myself.”
By the time her maternity leave ended, she had lost 60 pounds. As a therapist at UPMC Western Behavioral Health, Andrea knew she needed mental health support.
“Therapists, doctors—we struggle, too. And there’s no shame in that. We love our babies and we’re happy, but our hormones and our minds can make things complicated.” She joined the New and Expectant Mothers Specialized Treatment Program (NEST), where pregnant and postpartum women receive intensive outpatient treatment for depression and anxiety.
“I looked at my baby—he had already lost his dad. He couldn’t lose his mom, too. That’s when I knew I had to fight.” Andrea says that the group sessions were a lifeline—a place for women supporting women: “Hearing other moms say, ‘I feel angry sometimes,’ or ‘I feel like I’m failing’—made me realize I wasn’t alone.”
She was also the first to receive a new oral medication for postpartum depression, which helped her feel better than she had in months. She says, “It was like a light bulb had flipped on.”
