A showcase of the Inclusive Design Studio at the American University in Cairo, ARCH 3553 led by Magda Mostafa, Associate Professor of Design and Autism Design expert. This studio tackles the issue of seeking appropriate contemporary architectural vocabulary in the rapidly urbanising, globalising and commodifying city of Cairo through the lens of diverse users. It operationalises sensory tactics leveraged by these user groups as tools to create expressive, meaningful and broadly inclusive spatial experiences. Its title "Sensitecture+" reinforces the sensory as the language of form, but also allows that sensory to intersect with other domains- the "+". "Sensitecture+" allows students to explore the senses and the their intersection with materiality and constructability; emotion and psychology; inclusion and a sense of belonging; spirituality and expression- and other diverse and expansive explorations.
