Anatomy of a Living Precinct: Footscray Health & Education Precinct Framework 2026–2051 by Monash Masters of Urban Planning and Design Students: Adrian Del Re, Imogen Ruberg, Kate Chan, and Zhanyu Shen.
Can the future of Footscray’s Health & Education Precinct be reimagined—not by starting anew, but by building on the institutions, communities, and cultural richness that already define this pivotal part of Melbourne’s west?
Anchored by a strategic framework responding to major institutional growth, this project explores how the new $1.5 billion Footscray Hospital, Victoria University’s expanding innovation ecosystem, and Maribyrnong City Council’s ambitious dwelling targets can work together to transform a self‑contained subcentre into a connected, people‑focused precinct. The masterplan proposes a series of integrated moves that strengthen civic life, enhance walkability, and celebrate Footscray’s identity as one of Melbourne’s most vibrant and culturally diverse destinations.
