PRINCIPAL’S WELCOME
Mackay Christian College is about being all God wants you to be. God has gifted each one of us with a variety of talents and abilities that he wants us to develop and grow to use for his glory.
Some of us are blessed in the area of sports, and we encourage these students to give their best and develop these abilities to their full potential. For others, sporting activities are not easy and need to be worked at. At MCC, sport is for everyone, not just the elite few.
All students are encouraged to find a sport to join in and play; to be a part of a team, and to contribute to something cooperatively that is bigger than themselves. These are skills we all need for life, so that we can be all that God wants us to be. See you out there on the field!
Sport's Coordinator's Welcome
Sport plays an integral role in our Australian lives and goes beyond just championships. At Mackay Christian College we are committed to providing a wide variety of sporting opportunities that will encourage and develop students’ confidence, talents, skills, and friendships, all while underpinning it with our faith in Christ.
Sport can provide the opportunity to develop sportsmanship attributes which include but are not limited to, respect, encouragement, manners, communication, punctuality, work ethic, passion, being coachable, problem-solving, and having a great attitude which lends itself to all aspects of our lives.
Paul wrote to Timothy, ‘Anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor's crown except by competing according to the rules.’ 2 Timothy 2:5 NIV.
Sport utilises guidelines or a rule book to keep games free-flowing. This allows players to stay within the boundaries which promote safety, freedom and enjoyment for their game. Here at MCC, sport should be fun, competitive and a relationship builder between players, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators.

These competitions provide valuable experiences that build teamwork, resilience, leadership and friendships, while also encouraging students to honour God through their sportsmanship and commitments
While these are our current representative sports, MCC is continually exploring opportunities to expand into additional sporting competitions in the future, ensuring even more students can experience the joy of representing our school. Commitment, respect and team work are the values learned through sport that translate into the classroom and everyday life, helping students grow as both athletes and young men and women of character.
COMPETITION OPPORTUNITIES
RUGBY 7's
Rugby 7's is a highly popular and fast-paced sport at MCC, developing teamwork, discipline, resilience, and leadership in students as they compete at a high level. We proudly represent MCC in major Queensland carnivals like the Mackay 7's, Western 7's, and CQ 7's, alongside competing in interschool matches to test abilities and refine skills. The sport emphasizes speed and precision, encouraging athletes to work seamlessly together while always honouring God through integrity and perseverance on and off the field.
BASKETBALL
MCC proudly competed in the first ever Interschool Basketball competition in Mackay, fielding teams across the Year 7/8, 9/10, and 11/12 divisions. Our students showcased outstanding teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience, demonstrating skill and strategic play. The tournament was a valuable success, enhancing their athletic abilities, building camaraderie, and strengthening school spirit.
NETBALL
Each year, MCC proudly takes part in the prestigious Vicki Wilson Netball Carnival, a highly regarded state wide competition that brings schools together from across Queensland. Our junior secondary team competed in the Shield division, while our senior girls took to the court in the Cup division. Both teams represented MCC with determination, skill and integrity, competing against strong local schools and gaining valuable experience at a high level of school netball. The carnival provides an excellent opportunity for our players to grow in confidence, develop teamwork and showcase their commitment to the sport.
SOCCER
Soccer at MCC provides students with the opportunity to represent our school in the Mackay Interschool Soccer Competition, with teams across both our year 7-8 and our open divisions. These matches allow students to develop their skills, teamwork and strategic understanding of the game while competing against other local schools. Participation in soccer fosters resilience, leadership and a sense of school pride as students learn to support each other and work together toward shared goals. These experiences help students grow both as athletes and as team members, building confidence and camaraderie on and off the field.

STAFF VS STUDENTS
The Staff vs Students Sports Games is a major highlight and beloved MCC tradition Senior students (Years 11 and 12) challenge teachers in events like the Hopper Netball Cup, popular Peter Palmer Shield touch football game and Rusty Modlin Basketball Cup. The whole school cheers on in an electric atmosphere, often joined by returning alumni. These games are a fun way to celebrate sport, friendship, and faith, and strengthen the bonds of our MCC family.
