March

From the General Manager, Mark Krtek

Happy March! We’ve been very busy preparing for the upcoming year. I first wanted to send a big shout out to our Maintenance Manager John Thomas and his team during our big snow event. They worked tirelessly to ensure we got Lakewood cleared in a timely fashion.

Our biggest amenity is our Lake. We have committed to gaining an understanding of what we can do to continue to ensure it’s at its peak performance. Staff and Scott Lankford from Lake Use Committee recently met with SOLitude Lake Management to review last year’s progress and outline priorities for 2026. SOLitude confirmed that vegetation treatments were targeted , covering only about 10% of each lake , focusing on nuisance species like coontail and curly leaf pondweed. Overall conditions improved, and SOLitude expects to reduce chemical treatments this year.

The group also emphasized the importance of fisheries health , updated habitat strategies, and better shoreline stewardship . Many residents are unknowingly removing beneficial shoreline vegetation, so new educational materials and a lake focused webpage are planned.

SOLitude will deliver a draft lake management plan in March, with monitoring beginning soon after.

On the other phase of the lake management plan we have partnered with Affi nis engineering to assist in gaining useful measurement information and being able to take those readings and plan for any needed improvements. The first phase of this plan is Affinis helping to design and place a weir to gain valuable flow rates and also to interpret the data and provide analysis.

“May your day be sham-rockin’, your luck be legendary, and may any leprechauns you meet be too busy chasing rainbows to steal your snacks!”
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

From the Boardroom

The Board of Directors approved an agreement with Affinis for $11,760 to conduct East and West Dams Seepage Management and Data Review. This will include a weir design and placement, weir review and analysis along with piezometer data review. The data provided by Affinis will help determine if there is an issue with the spillway or if the lake level is simply affected by the draught conditions we have been experiencing over the last year. The Board is anticipating a report from Affinis in Spring 2026.

The Lakewood Greeters Club is hard at work getting ready to give our new residents a warm Lakewood “hello”. This newly formed club will not only be a friendly face but can be a resource to inform new residents about LPOA operations and restrictions, and help attend and enjoy Lakewood activities, clubs and amenities. A New Member Orientation will be held on Thursday, March 26 in the Clubhouse banquet area. Happy Hour starts at 6:00 p.m. and the presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. Additional information will be coming in the weekly e-blast.

Daylight savings time is quickly approaching! While the time shift always seems difficult, it is a sign that spring is just around the corner.

Mark Your Calendar for Lakewood Election Events! Here’s what you need to know!

The LPOA Election Committee encourages your participation in upcoming events to learn more about this year’s candidates for Lakewood’s Board of Directors. 2026 will mark a year of change in Lakewood. The directors we elect will shape Lakewood for years to come, so it’s important that we all engage, become informed, and vote!

Meet the Candidates — Wednesday, March 11, Begins at 6:30 PM, Lakewood Oaks Clubhouse

A casual social event to meet and mingle with the candidates, get to know them as neighbors, and ask questions important to you. Feel free to drop in as your schedule permits. You’ll also be able to submit questions for the Candidates’ Forum.

Forum Question Submission — to lpoaelectioncommittee@gmail.com by Friday, March 20

The Election Committee is actively soliciting questions from residents for the Candidates’ Forum. Your questions will shape the discussion at the event. What do you want to know from the candidates? The Election Committee will organize the questions you submit, and a moderator will present them to the candidates for a timed response. No questions will be taken from the floor that evening—you must submit your questions in advance via email to lpoaelectioncommittee@gmail.com by March 20 All submissions are treated confidentially!

Candidates’ Forum — Wednesday, March 25, Begins at 7:00 PM, Lakewood Oaks Clubhouse

An opportunity to hear from each candidate on issues important to the community before you vote. Candidates will answer resident-submitted questions presented by a moderator. You’ll learn each candidates’ priorities, their approach to problem-solving, and their ideas concerning important issues and opportunities facing Lakewood. You’ll also have time after the discussion to chat with individual candidates. This event is a great way to learn how these potential board members would address matters of concern to you.

Note that the Forum will be video-recorded (not live-streamed) and available for viewing following the event in case you can’t attend.

Voting Period — Wednesday, April 8 at 8:00 am–Tuesday, April 14 at 5:00 pm

Don’t forget to cast your ballot! All property owners in good standing can vote for the candidate to represent his/her membership class (East Lake, West Lake, or Multi Family) on the Board. More information will be forthcoming prior to the start of voting.

Please see the Events Calendar at https://lpoa.com/events/ and/or the Lakewood Elections Committee page at https://lpoa.com/committees/elections-committee/ for event reminders, updates, candidate bios and photos, and other relevant information. Information is also available on the LPOA Facebook page and in the weekly E-Blast.

New Member Orientation

Do you feel like LPOA’s governing documents read like the U.S. Tax Code? Do you wonder who plows the snow on your street, why you received a nasty-gram for not having a current boat registration sticker, or what type of roof you can put on your home? Do you have questions about capital improvements or the operating budget? Or maybe you’ve been chewed out by a homeowner because you cut through their yard to get to a community dock, and thought to yourself, “how the heck else am I supposed to reach the dock?”

If you have questions like this, you’ve probably fired up your Facebook App and asked a few simple questions, only to find out that you got the wrong answers from people you don’t even know.

Well, have no fear, because I can help.

We’ll answer these questions and more at our next New Member Orientation on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Lakewood Oaks Clubhouse. LPOA’s New Member Orientations are designed to give an overview of the association’s operations and a description of its services, amenities, restrictions and procedures. This is a great chance for members to get acclimated to Lakewood and ensure that you’re taking advantage of all it has to offer.

Additionally, the Lakewood Greeters Club, who joined us for our Fall 2025 meeting, will once again be taking part and hosting a complimentary Mixer Social beginning at 6:00 p.m., so you can enjoy some time meeting some of your neighbors before diving into the orientation.

Don’t miss out on important information. If you’ve recently purchased your home, or missed the last orientations, please RSVP to Ann Bellinghausen at 816-373-4343. I look forward to hearing from you.

LAKEWOOD ARTISTS SERIES

MARCH & APRIL ART EXHIBIT

Many times, Lakewood artists are inspired by their travels as well as the scenes around our special lake community. Two of the returning artists in the new exhibit were inspired by recent trips to Italy. All three of them consider traveling as a great way to renew their creativity. In Italy they may have heard the phrase, ”everywhere you wander, there’s ‘ispirazione che nasce ovunque’ (inspiration born in every corner).” Visit the Argyle during March and April and see the beauty of art “in every corner.”

TWILA ENDICOTT

Twila Endicott continues to work in pastels as her main art medium, while gaining more confidence in her watercolor and oil painting skills. She hopes to exhibit more work in these mediums soon. This year, Twila traveled to Italy with her church and returned home with many beautiful photos that she will be using as inspiration for her art. Pieces in this exhibit include paintings from Lakewood and her own backyard, as well as boats and back alleys from her trip. Twila is pleased to be part of the Lakewood art group and appreciates “the opportunity to display works that nourish my spirit.”

TANYA JANA-FORD

Tanya Jana-Ford and her husband welcomed a baby boy since her last exhibit in the gallery and getting used to being a family of four keeps her on her toes. Last year, Tanya told us she wanted to revisit her love of watercolor and this year she has been able to accomplish that, as well as working with pen and ink. Her watercolor work has been particularly rewarding as she rediscovered techniques that she learned in college. If there’s time left in her busy day caring for her two “littles” as they grow and learn, Tanya explores future travel destinations to inspire her art.

MARSHA ALEXANDER

Marsha Alexander returns to the Argyle this year with new work from her recent trips to Italy and other US destinations. Oil is still Marsha’s favorite medium because it provides such rich color and durability. “Whether painting a landscape, still life, or portrait, oil allows for more flexibility in creating depth and texture.”

All artists featured in the gallery are Lakewood residents. If you are an artist, or know someone in Lakewood who might be interested in showing their artistic talent to the community, get in touch with Carole Gray, cjegray@ gmail.com. We are never surprised and always delighted to find new talent in Lakewood.
