Well can you believe January has come and gone and we were able to enjoy unseasonably warm weather! It was nice to see our community out and about and enjoying our neighborhood. February is a month of preparation and progress. Our team is committed to ensuring that when spring arrives, our community is ready to shine. I appreciate your continued partnership and engagement as we work together to maintain a safe, welcoming, and well managed neighborhood.
Everyone should now be connected by our new App and the transition to NorthStar. This is never an easy process and it comes with its own unique challenges. We appreciate your patience as we worked through this very big transition. We encourage residents to stay connected through the HOA website and the app. These channels remain the best way to receive timely information about maintenance alerts, amenity schedules, and community events.
The team is busy working on many projects for the upcoming year. We have some amazing new updates coming to our community. The clubhouse will be getting a section updated to match our updated section and we will be expanding the kitchen to better accommodate the Argyle. We will be addressing many of our amenities over the coming months.
The Lakewood Food and Beverage Team is ready for another busy year to serve all of our dear friends and loyal members who frequent our dining room, deck, pub, banquet room and snack bar as well as those who are just trying us out for the first time and destined to become repeat customers. Stay tuned for some new menu options as our talented culinary team bring their talents to the Argyle.

Kim Curran, Board President
It appears that winter has finally arrived. The cold temperatures have driven our vibrant community back indoors and into hibernation. If you are missing your neighbors and even meeting new people, stop by the Argyle. There is a weekly food special as well as a wide variety of menu items from chicken spiedini to burgers to one of our favorites, the deluxe pizza (which is big enough for two of us to share and bring home leftovers). Over the years, we have met many wonderful people and almost always run into someone we know. This amenity is a hidden gem and a great way to beat those winter blues. The Argyle is open Wednesday - Saturday, 4:00-9:00 p.m. and reservations are recommended 816-541-2452.
Since adoption of the plan, the Board and Staff have been focused on moving from vision to action. Work is underway to document/review our current processes to ensure alignment with the strategies identified by the community, with particular attention to preserving and enhancing our most valued amenities, especially our lakes, which remain the number one priority identified by residents.
In July 2025, the Board, staff, and committee chairs held a joint meeting to review the plan in detail and develop initial recommendations for moving forward. Building on that work, the Board met in August 2025 to review those recommendations and formed a sub-committee focused specifically on developing an implementation plan.
The sub-committee and staff met in November and again in January to continue this work. In addition to advancing the implementation plan, efforts are underway to establish a format for providing updates to both the Board and residents, ensuring transparency and ongoing communication as the plan progresses.

To ensure continuity and alignment with Lakewood’s long-term priorities, the ENVISION Lakewood Strategic Plan will be incorporated into the board election process. Beginning with the upcoming election, board candidates will be asked to consider the plan and share how they would support its goals if elected.
We remain committed to transparency and to keeping residents informed as this plan comes to life. Thank you for your engagement, input, and continued pride in making Lakewood such a special place to live.

Well it is that time of year again, Lakewood’s elections will be here before you know it. As February rolls around, just as it does every year, it marks the start of our election calendar. For 2026 we have 3 At-Large seats up for selection to our Board, each for a three-year term.
In 2026, as we welcome our new General Manager fully into his role, the Board will continue setting the direction of our organization to improve and maintain our premier community based our your feedback. The decisions we collectively make, starting with the directors you elect, the investments you support and the implementation of our strategic plan, will shape Lakewood for years to come.
LPOA’s Election Committee, a standing Administrative Committee, administers the process of electing board members in accordance with procedures approved by the Board. Collaborating with staff, the Election Committee ensures secure, impartial and fair elections in our community. Additionally, the Committee provides residents with access to information about candidates and organizes opportunities for you to participate in the election process each season.
• Consider attending our monthly Board Meetings to stay updated on issues and decisions.
• Participate in Meet the Candidates night on March 11 , a social event to meet and mingle with the candidates, get acquainted with your neighbors that are running and submit any questions on topics of importance to you to be asked at the Forum on the 25th.
• Attend the Candidates’ Forum on March 25 to learn where each of the candidates stand on the issues and his/her solutions to problems. Help shape the discussion by submitting questions for each candidate; these submissions will be used to create composite questions asked at the forum. If you can’t make the event, watch the video-recording that will be posted online the next day.
• If you have additional questions about Lakewood’s election process, reach out to your Elections Committee. You can be confident that committee members, who are residents like yourself, will have accurate answers to questions and be attentive to your concerns.

Election Timetable approved at the Jan. 8 2026 Board meeting
If you would like to get more involved, consider running for the Board yourself.
Page 14 highlights the requirements, key steps in the process, and the timeline.
Most importantly, please VOTE during election week (April 8–14). Approximately 49% of Lakewood’s members cast a ballot in the last annual election. That’s a respectable turnout, but we should aspire to do better. It’s your community - make your voice heard in an impactful, constructive way.
In addition to LPOA staff, the LPOA Election Committee is a resource for questions. See the side bar to the right for your 2026 Election Committee Members!

Three (3) positions on the Board of Directors are up for election this year. The open seats are for At-Large representatives, all of which are for a three-year term.
Board members serve the community and shape the future of Lakewood. Directors create the vision for the community; guide the implementation of multiple projects, programs, and services; and provide the financial oversight vital to maintaining and enhancing the Lakewood community.
Board of Directors serve both the LPOA and LHC. Election to the LPOA Board of Directors includes election to the LHC Board of Directors. If you would like to play a role in the future of Lakewood, consider declaring your candidacy for one of the open positions.
• Any LPOA member in good standing may run for one of the open positions.
• Pick up a “Petition for Candidacy” and “Candidate Questionnaire” at the LPOA offices (651 NE St. Andrews Cir.) between January 30–March 4*, 2026. (*must be turned in by 5:00 p.m.)

When it gets so cold that your nose turns red and you’re looking at a frozen world between a wool knit beanie pulled over your eyebrows and a matching scarf wrapped tightly across your cheeks and ears, it’s time for a break. Pop in to the clubhouse and warm up by taking a stroll through some amazing art work by three of your talented Lakewood neighbors. The artists exhibiting in the Argyle Gallery from mid-January to mid-March are all returning artists with new works to share.
Ron Fornelli’s love of photography has taken him to many locations in the United States and overseas. He has joined camera clubs and attended photography workshops with professional photographers, always searching for new techniques to improve his images. Ron’s “eye” for catching the moment is obvious in his photos of wild animals and birds. Recently, at the McPherson, Kansas annual meeting of members of the Great Plains Nature Photography group, Ron was honored with first place in the category of “Non-Captive Animals.”
