In a surprising display of skill, speed, and unwavering warrior spirit, members of Maasin Arnis Mix Martial Arts Club (MAMMAC) stamped their names in Cluster 2 EVRAA history, clinching a staggering 15 gold medals and 9 silver medals on the second day of Arnis competition at Tagnipa Gym, Tagnipa, Maasin City. Wielding bastons like true modern-day eskrimadors, the team executed their mastery of the Filipino martial art, leaving both opponents and viewers in awe. Cont on p8.

March 1, 2025 – Henrex Ardiente of the Leyte Lions defeated Sherwin Nudalo of the Ormoc Siglaro Elites during the bout 5 of the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet 2025 at the Pope Paul VI Minor Seminary, barangay Ascuncion, Maasin City, with a score of 0–2. “Masaya po ako na nanalo dahil first time kong laro sa EVRAA at sa unang laban ko ay nakapanalo na ako”, stated Ardiente during the post-game interview. He further shared his excitement by sharing, “At excited din po ako sa mga susunod na laro ko dahil marami pa akong makalaban na mga malalakas.” Round 1 opened with Ardiente, in the red armor, falling to the ground. He recovered and landed a punch to Nudalo’s face, causing the fight to be paused. After a series of exchanges mainly consisting of punches to the body, the round ended with all 5 judges scoring in favor of Ardiente. Ardiente landing another heavy shot to Nudalo’s head in round 2. Maasin City — Bouncing back from a tough loss to the Calbayog Supersonics, Maasin City Tigers Elementary Girls Volleyball Team overpowered the Katbalaugan Warriors in three nerve-wracking sets, securing a 24-26, 25-13, 25-21 victory in the eleventh match of the Elementary Girls' Volleyball at the 2025 EVRAA Meet on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at The College of Maasin Gymnasium. Warriors claimed the first point after a miscommunication on Tigers' side. Both teams started strong, exchanging points through service aces and powerful attacks, leading to consecutive tied scores that intensified the atmosphere of the venue. The crowned roared with excitement as neither team showed signs of giving up, displaying incredible rallies and defensive plays. Crowd grew tensed as the scores remained tied up until match point. However, Tigers errors advanced Supersonics with 2 points after a tied of 24, securing the first set with a narrow 26-24 win. Supersonics' confidence soared as they celebrated their first set victory, while Tigers were fueled with a desire to win, and adjust their play accordingly. Determined to turn the odds in their favor, Tigers' team captain, Ani, refused to give up another set away. Unveiling her amazing skills, she led the team with powerful attacks, strategic plays, and service aces, scoring consecutively on the set. She communicated with her teammates, emphasizing the need to tighten their defense and maintain focus—areas they had struggled with in the first set. Their adjustments really worked, as they were able to flip the scoreboard in their favor, claiming the second set with a 25-13 win against the Warriors... Cont on p6.
