LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
On behalf of our Governing Board of Directors and our staff, thank you for supporting MU through the Mizzou Alumni Association. We are grateful for the thousands of alumni and friends whose collective support allow us to connect alumni, preserve traditions and support MU like no other organization. Alumni support is critical to Mizzou. Since 1853, the Mizzou Alumni Association has helped marshal the support of thousands of alumni in many different ways. Alumni represent Mizzou’s only permanent and largest constituency. Alumni should be more than cheerleaders and check writers. It’s the value of our diplomas for which current faculty and administration are stewards. No matter where you live, you can do so much for our alma mater. STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS & PROGRAMS
Black and Gold Gratitude, Leaders Day, Sept 23, 2016
MEMBERSHIP & MARKETING + Served a total of 39,445 members + Recruited 10,685 new annual members and 468 new life members. + Membership student retention is 34.05%.
ALUMNI NETWORK Held 1,602 events with a total attendance of 165,126. Increased the number of True Tiger Program participants to 4,386.
COMMUNICATIONS Sent 10,185,248 emails and mailed pieces to alumni, which provided information about activities, programs and promotions. Distributed MIZZOU magazine to 229,614 alumni households in August and 28,435 member households in November and April.
Awarded more than $589,887 to incoming and current students. Served 241 Tourin’ Tigers participants, and 681 Griffiths Leadership Society participants. Attracted crowd of 2,500 at the 18th annual Senior Send-off. Engaged approximately 706 students in the tradition of whitewashing the Rock M at Memorial Stadium.
Sent @MIZZOU, the University’s electronic newsletter, to all alumni with registered e-mail addresses, and average circulations of 138,611. 5K Homecoming 2017

MAA INTRODUES NEW PRESIDENT Ted Ayres,JD`72
On July 1, 2016, Ted Ayres began his one-year term as Mizzou Alumni Association (MAA) president. Ted brings a wealth of leadership experience to the position as a long-time MAA volunteer and Governing Board Q: What is your favorite Mizzou memory? A: “I have to say that my favorite Mizzou
memory revolves around the game of football. To say that my fall weekends were devoted to the college game experience would be a huge understatement. From 1969 through the season of 1983, I never missed a home football game. “I have fond memories of walking across campus to and from games sometimes marching along with Marching Mizzou as they headed to Memorial Stadium and certainly the highs and lows of the various games. [I have] memories of The Heidelberg, where we generally started the day, and Harpo’s or Déjà Vu, where we ended the day. In this regard, the season of 1975 was special because that is [when] I got to know Marcia, who later became my wife. “I was spoiled somewhat by that first season in 1969, when the Terry McMillan-led Tigers won the Big 8 championship. The home game against Kansas State University in 1969 was particularly memorable as McMillan and KSU [quarterback] Lynn Dickey squared off throwing [touchdown] passes right and left. Mizzou got the better of the Cats that day and it was the second best Mizzou game I ever experienced. The best game is another story!”

Q: What was your favorite campus hangout? A: “During law school, I would have to say it was Tate Hall, then home to the School of Law. While ‘favorite’ is perhaps not the right word, I can say that for three years, I spent the greatest part of my time in the library stacks trying to keep up with my more talented classmates! “During my work career, my ‘favorite’ hangout was the second floor of University Hall, where the General Counsel offices were. I [started] the day with coffee or tea down in the breakroom with my colleagues from the office and other folks employed in the building. I would also note that playing City League softball and basketball with my university friends provided many great memories; these friendships remain today, even though I left Columbia in 1984.” Q: What are three things you hope to accomplish as MAA president? A: “This varies from day-to-day, but general12

ly speaking, my biggest focus will be directed to helping the University and the people that make the University of Missouri a living institution by their various contributions of time, talent and treasure learn from the experiences on campus over the past 12 months or so. “I believe that the Mizzou Alumni Association (MAA) and the alumni we represent are critical in helping the University regain its sense of purpose, direction and pride. While it has been a difficult time, I believe the university has been given an opportunity to get better, stronger and more relevant. “I would also like to make the MAA a better source of information, pride and achievement, representing and benefiting alums and the university. “Finally, I think it is important that MAA be focused on providing service, support and succor to our current students so that they can have the best learning and social experience possible, creating relationships with people and entities that will continue for a lifetime.”
HOMECOMING HALL OF FAME
Created in 2016, the Mizzou Homecoming Hall of Fame exists to honor those high-achieving alumni who have exhibited excellence in their chosen field. Each year, a class of Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized during Mizzou Homecoming weekend and will serve as Grand Marshals of the annual homecoming parade.
Inaugural Class, Oct 21, 2016 We are so proud to induct the inaugural class into the Mizzou Homecoming Hall of Fame: Retired chairman of Yum! Brands David Novak (‘74), MU professor and retired NASA astronaut Dr. Linda Godwin (‘76, ‘80) and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Kellen Winslow.

MAA PRESENTS 2016 GEYER AWARDS On January 17, 2017 at Revel in Jefferson City, the Henry S. Geyer Award was presented to Senator Dan Brown, Representative Donna Lichtenegger and Sean McGinnis. Named for Representative Geyer of St. Louis who authored the Geyer Act of 1839 to establish the University, the award recognizes the work of public officials and citizens who have made a positive impact on higher education and Mizzou. Since 1992, the Mizzou Alumni Association’s Legislative Network (MLN) presents the award to one public state official and one private citizen each year who are strong examples of Geyer’s values and advocates of higher education and Mizzou. As a state representative, Geyer introduced a bill that established the University of Missouri in February of 1839.

Mizzou shared the stories of some incredible alumni who explained what being #MizzouMade means to them, including Dudley McCarter (JD ‘75): “At the end of my first year at Mizzou Law School, I learned that tuition was going up $50 per semester — from $250 to $300. I didn’t know how I was going to pay the difference. I thought I had a chance for a scholarship, so I went to visit the Dean. He said he would look into it and let me know. A week later I received a letter from him, letting me know that I would receive the Governor John Folk scholarship of $100 per year! I was the happiest person on campus that day. After I passed the bar exam and started working as a lawyer, I wrote a check to the Law School for $200 to pay it back for this wonderful scholarship. No matter how much I donate to Mizzou each year, it will never be fully repaid for the education I received.”
