Parking permits will ‘price out’ small businesses OWNERS of Lyme Regis’ most historic bed and breakfast have called for the town council to reconsider the “unsustainable” cost of parking permits for their visitors. Sandra Johnson and Susan Walker, who own the Old Lyme Guest House in Coombe Street, recently made an impassioned plea to the council to re-think the continually-rising cost of parking permits at Woodmead car park, which they say will “price them out of business”. JUDGE US ON RESULTS NEW MAYOR LAYS OUT VISION FOR FUTURE
LYME’S new mayor, locallyborn Brian Larcombe MBE , has called on the public to give the new town council a chance to develop and be judged on its efforts in doing the best for the town.
After eight turbulent years in the council chamber, Councillor Larcombe is crucially aware that the council has to improve its image and come together in the best interests of all those in the town.
PHILIP EVANS
philip@lyme-online.co.uk Councillor Larcombe took the mayoral chair at the first meeting of the new council in a three-way fight with outgoing mayor Michaela Ellis and Councillor Jeff Scowen. The meeting ended in uproar as Councillor Cheryl Reynolds - who lost a bid to become deputy mayor to Councillor Scowen - resigned and walked out, saying she could not work with Councillors Lar-
combe or Scowen any longer. In an exclusive article for LymeOnline, Councillor Larcombe, who has 20 years experience of leading a parish council, expresses the view that in managing Lyme’s increasing popularity as a holiday resort, the council has to accept there is a limit to the number of visitors the town can attract, and they have to recognise the impact the seasonal numbers have on those living in the town.

THE Pilot Boat in Lyme Regis has won the highly-acclaimed Pub Design Award, organised by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), for a refurbishment project described as a “labour of love”. The project kicked off in 2015 when owners Palmers Brewery decided that the dated Pilot Boat Inn needed a total rethink to bring it into the modern era. REPORT, PAGE 7
