BAMBACH BOOST

By GREGOR MACTAGGART

ROSEDALE-based Bambach Wires and Cables continues to kick major goals. The company, which opened its factory in the Gippsland town last month, has been awarded $1.2 million in funding by the federal government to support the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the grant would enhance the company’s existing manufacturing capabilities and support local jobs. “This $1.2 million investment will support Bambach to manufacture small, medium, and large diameter low voltage

silicone copper cables essential for use in submarine and shipbuilding,” Mr Chester said. “Bambach is an outstanding example of the growing capability and competitiveness of the Australian defence industry, providing a vital investment in our sovereign industrial base. “Businesses like Bambach demonstrate the capacity and opportunities available to Australian industry as the federal government embarks on its $270 billion defence capability investment.” The grant has been awarded as part of the Sovereign Industrial Capability

Priority (SICP) grant program which supports manufacturing capabilities and the federal government’s mission to develop a sustainable, competitive, sovereign industrial capability. Bambach’s chief executive officer Alf Chown spoke last month of why the move to Rosedale has proven to be the right one. “It has allowed us to set up a fully operational business in an area where there is a lot of scope for growth,” Mr Chown said. “In a time where the economy is really needing Australian manufacturing, it’s been a great thing.

Defence Industry Minister Melissa Price congratulated Bambach Wires and Cables on its grant. “Bambach’s dedication and foresight is enabling the Australian Defence Force to maintain a critical edge while growing its self-reliance in an increasingly congested strategic environment,” Ms Price said. Mr Chester encouraged Gippslandbased companies interested in working in defence to apply for the next round of SCIP grants at www.business.gov. au/Grants-and-Programs/SovereignIndustrial-Capability-Priority-Grants.
